Okay to use illustrations in post about your site?
Hello,
I'm writing about your terrific site for our Friends of the LIbrary website [www.forl.org] and a longer piece for my blog [http://nosleepingdogs.wordpress.com/]. I would like to include a few illustrations on the blog post but do not want to violate copyright. Can I post a few illustrations (each from a different book) without offending?
What about the books that are beyond copyright, such as The Circus Procession, 1888, from the US Library of Congress? I would imagine that anything published before 1925 or so, that is not a money maker (Beatrix Potter type book, or perhaps illustrations by famous named artist like N.C. Wyeth) would be okay to reproduce. I did read your copyright statement but still have these questions.
Thank you, and keep up the great work. I run a "free books for kids" out of the back of my car, at the local food pantry, giving away used books that I buy, and have seen kids' hunger for books; I remember how important they were to me as a kid (and ever since, but forming the habit early is vital).
Sincerely,
Cynthia Cheney
