Add options for a 2/3 1/3 split?
This admittedly might be a rare request, but I typically work with a text-editor at approx 2/3 the horizontal real-estate of my monitor and a terminal window on the other 1/3.
This is the best software I've seen for getting a 1/2 1/2 split, but an option like this one would make it absolutely perfect for me.
Thanks for listening and for making a great product.

Inappropriate? This would certainly be a great feature. More generally, the ability to define your own resize regions. Many more features are planned (like quarter screen, full screen, configurable sizes, etc) in a more advanced for-pay version in the future.

Inappropriate? This is not a rare request, I would very much like to see it implemented in SizeUp. Most of the times 1/2 of my 13" screen isn't enough for browsers, slides etc, white 1/3 is perfect for chat windows and terminals.
It's great to see that the devs are already working on it, I can't wait!
I’m excited

Inappropriate?I'm curious to hear how users would like to see this feature implemented.
Would you like the option for both 1/3 and 1/2 at the same time, or either or (like a setting you would toggle based on the size of your monitor)? The concern being too many shortcuts to remember if we end up using a different set of shortcuts.
Perhaps shortcuts could be setup to cycle. So one shortcut for split horizontal, one for split vertical, one for 1/3 horizontal, etc. Then, you would hit a given shortcut multiple times to cycle through the positions.
Another idea has been to shape a window with multiple shortcut presses. For example, hitting the "Left" shortcut once would give you half screen, hit it again to get 1/3 screen, again for 1/4, etc. This is getting closer to the feature set of Mercury Mover (another great application in this market).
I'm open to suggestions. Thanks. -
Inappropriate?Again, I'm pretty specific in my needs, but I would be good with specifying a width for a specific app so that i could hit left and terminal would be 1/3 of the left side or right and it would be 1/3 of the right side, but similar presses with textmate would be 2/3 left or right.
Again, that's just me. -
Inappropriate?Ok, so still using the same set of shortcuts, but per application settings. It's possible, but a little outside the scope of SizeUp. This isn't a yes or no, it's more about finding an elegant solution. I'll keep you informed. Thanks.

Inappropriate?I would be happy with toggling between different screen layouts, probably with a shortcut, so for a 2/3 1/3 layout ctrl+alt+cmd+left would put a window to the left, using 2/3 of the screen, ctrl+alt+cmd+right would put a window to the right, using 1/3 of the screen. Shift+ctrl+alt+up would put a window to the top right at 1/3 width and 1/2 height.
Don't really like the idea about the application specific settings, tho.
I'm very impressed by the quick respones here, keep up the good work!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I actually have an idea that will trump all this shortcut business, I don't want to say too much before I'm sure it's a viable solution... stay tuned =)

Inappropriate?Winsplit revolution does do this (windows app). Also a great app. It uses the numpad to control the windows, works great:
http://www.winsplit-revolution.com/
How it works:
Tap ctrl+alt+numpad6 once: Window goes to right half
Tap ctrl+alt+numpad6 twice: Window goes to right third
Tap ctrl+alt+numpad6 three times: Window goes to right 2/3
I don't know for sure but:
Tap ctrl+alt+numpad2 once: Window goes to top half
Tap ctrl+alt+numpad6 twice: Window goes to middle top third
Also:
Tap ctrl+alt+numpad3 for upper right, it's less confusing than your system (alt+ctrl+shift and up arrow?)
Only problem is that the macbook and the new imac keyboard (bt keyboard) doesn't have the numpad. -
Inappropriate?Ok, the latest version of SizeUp has a hidden ability to configure positions and sizes for each action. The solution involves manually editing a file. It's not a great solution, but it's a start. If you're interested, please contact me directly for help as it's not a public interface I want every user poking at =)

Inappropriate?I know it's a tricky issue, I'd love to have 2/3 but also 1/2.
Maybe allow users to customize the shortcuts (eg. I would replace 1/4 with 2/3).
I’m excited

WinSplitRevolution has a nice feature that allows you to press the hotkey multiple times to go from 1/2, to 1/3, to 2/3, etc. The number are configurable. I hope to eventually get a feature like this info SizeUp. Stay tuned. -
Actually, one of my beta testers just point out that it will be possible to do exactly what you're asking in the next version of SizeUp. You'll be able to effectively replace the 1/4 with 2/3 by adjusting the partitions. I don't want to get into too many details at the moment, as things are still changing, but stay tuned. -
Inappropriate?Good news! In the next version of SizeUp you'll be able to adjust the split (partition), so 2/3 and 1/3 will be possible (or any other % split). Stay tuned.
I’m excited
