How does Smart Look know my account?
How does Smart Look know my domain is associated with my Issuu account? I don't have it up and running yet. And is there any advantage to using a URL link to the Issuu file from my site vs. Smart Look? Same access to stats?

Smart Look is primarily if you have many documents on your site that you don't want to manually upload. And of course it won't interfere with your website design, as it opens in a popup window.
If you already have your files on Issuu, I'd recommend embedding them, instead of just linking. It gives your readers a more engaging experience, and you keep them on your site.
Whichever method you choose the stats will measure every view etc. you get.
