Problems with Picture Transparency and Shadows
First, let me say that I'm LOVING Issuu, great work.
But I still need help with a few things. On my latest upload:
http://issuu.com/wusik/docs/wsm_feb09...
On page 10 and 11, the pictures were supposed to have shadows, but instead, they show some odd effect.
I also noticed that some of my previous magazines some transparent pictures are not transparent on Issuu, but are with Adobe and FoxIt
I'm using Serif.com PagePlus latest version.
I'm uploading a ZIP/150dpi file now to check if that solves the problem.

Inappropriate?Ok, the ZIP 150 dpi file I uploaded has the exact same problem. I will run some tests here, but so far, Adobe shows the PDF correctly with no problems.

Inappropriate?I just noticed that PagePlus (Serif.com) has a Transparency tab on the PDF render dialog. Until today I was using 8-bit channel which both FoxIt and Adobe supports. But, I'm trying now "flatten and mask" to see if it helps. If not, there is still another option to test.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Rats, "flatten and mask" doesn't work, its actually worse. Trying "flatten only" now...

Inappropriate?Hi William.
Great feedback! Keep us posted.
Transparency is known to cause problems. The fool proof fix is flattening to bitmaps before upload, but simply changing the PDF version (e.g. to PDF v1.3) has been known to work too.
I’m thankful

In some apps it would be "transparency = flatten only" - and yes, it does solve the problem. Thank you so much. You guys do great support! :-) On a side note, please, add PayPal support when you start charging, it would save my day as I don't own a credit-card. -
Is it possible to get drop shadows in pdfs from indesign to show in ISSUU without saving as pdf 1.3? The 1.3 flattened pdfs are so ugly when downloaded – you get those visible (on screen) white frames around the flattened areas. The 1.4 and above pdfs are much nicer looking with transparency preserved. And they are also much smaller in file size. If not - do you have a time plan when this will be fixed? -
And why is it that some shadows in 1.4 documents will work. And some will not? It would be nice if ISSUU could post joboptions files for download with the "correct" settings for pdf to upload. -
Inappropriate?Ahhh, good to know. I just did a "flatten only" option and it seems to work with FoxIt. I'm uploading the file now to check if Issuu handle it correctly too. Serif only has PDF 4, 5 and 6, no older formats.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Just one more time, flattening the pictures did solve the problem. Lucky me there's a "Transparency = flatten only" option in PagePlus. ;-)

Inappropriate? That's great to hear. Thanks for all your help, I'm sure many will find it useful.
