Volunteers Assigned to Categories?
Another quick question / suggestion...as you know the online player registration process collects parents who are willing to volunteer and registers them to an appropriate volunteer role. Is it possible (perhaps via the online reg setup) that volunteer role registrations could also have an associated category, rather than registering to "No Category"?
The reason I ask is that let's say we get offers from 50 people who are willing to coach. Quite often, we look through this list and all we have is a name. Since volunteers always coach their kids, we need to find out who their kids are and how old (which age category). Clearly, we can always get this information but it would be nice if they could be somehow linked.
Perhaps this is a development idea if it's not currently possible.

Inappropriate?Absolutely we can attach volunteer roles to the volunteer registration. When it comes time to setup your registration you simply have to ask your ITSN support rep to enable this feature. The categories that will be associated with the volunteer role are pulled directly from the categories available for registration, which ensures that everything matches up.
Members then choose the category they wish to volunteer for and all reports will reflect this accordingly.
The only catch is that it is difficult to make this a required field if volunteering is not required as there is no way to differentiate between those volunteering and those not registering as volunteers. This is something that will be considered when the time comes to revamp the online registration setup tool. -

Let me throw a spin on this and ask...let's suppose a parent is registering 2 kids, one in mini and one in bantam. The parent is willing to help out as a coach in either of their kid's divisions.
How would this work with online registration - would the parent have to register to the volunteer role of coach twice - once for each division?

I have been thinking this over and here at the office we do believe the best way to handle this for you now would be to have the member complete the process twice (once for each team).
This has given me a few things to think about, I will add this suggestion to the list of ideas for our online registration revamp. If you have any other suggestions for online registration enhancements please let me know. I am always looking for great ideas. -
Inappropriate?Kelly, instead of completing the process twice, what about a single registration but creating a registration note which lists the various divisions that they are willing to help out in?
I am just not sure if there is a note type available which provides a list of options and allows selection of more than one option? -

I apologize as I am not sure what happened because I answered this days ago, anyways I will try again
I have thought about your idea however the problem is that in the reports only the option tied to the system "category field" will display and an admin would have to click right on a registration to see if the member had registered for more than one option. The admin could also run an export data but either way this would be more work for your admin.
Alternatively I have asked a developer to take a look and see how much work it would be to turn the volunteer registration option into a check box (multiple registration variable (like player registration is)

Thank you for your patience. I had development take a look the possibility of turning the volunteer registration from a drop down (single choice) to a check box( mulitple) options and we found that this is possible.
So to answer your original question, if a parent would like to registrar to volunteer for more than one age group they can do so on page with one registration
When the time comes to setup your registration you will simply need to ask ITSN to add the category option to the volunteer page and make this a check box. -
