What is the purpose of the 400 character limit on comments?
What is the purpose of having a 400 character limit for comments? To me, such limits would seem to detract from reasonable discussion (I can barely write a short review in less than 1000 characters), while promoting short but unhelpful and unexplained comments that are the bane of so many sites ("This program is the best ever!", "This program is horrible!", etc).

Inappropriate?We have increased this limit to 1000 characters now. We do not wish to have a unrestricted length, but we do agree that 400 might have been a bit too limiting.
