Deleting or editing tags
I couldn't find a way to edit or delete tags. There should be an overview screen where I can see all tags I'm using, giving me a choice to add, delete or edit tags (similar like on del.icio.us).

Inappropriate?Yes please. All my testing has left me with many tags that do not contain any items and will never contain any items going forward (eg @beta, @test etc)
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Howdy,
By editing tags do you mean being able to edit the tags associated with a particular item?
If you click the "Tags" link in the menu bar, you'll see a list of all your tags and anything associated with each (even confluences of tags like "@sample, @test"). You can click on any of items' titles, click "Edit" and change the tags.
Or did you mean something more global?

Inappropriate?@johnwin, I know what you mean. I used to have dead, empty tags persisting in my cloud (e.g. I'd delete all the items associated with that tag but the tag would still be in the cloud - and if you clicked on the tag nothing would be found.)
BUT, this problem seems to have gone away with the new website.
I’m pleased
-
Inappropriate?I can not confirm johnwin's experience. In my case, if I mark all items with the tag @sample as "done", they still show up in the list.
From a user experience point of view, the inability to actually delete tags and see them go away is really confusing. The same is true for "done" items. I should be able to make them disappear, but they can't be hidden (only selected as "don't show me done items" in list views).
From using other calendars (not only desktop software, but also Google calendar etc.) users are used to actually delete items for good.
I’m frustrated

I agree - we need an option to delete old tags. If an item has the tag deleted (and no other tag) it should appear in a 'no-tag' section
I feel unhappy with the idea that 'forgotten' stuff is not deleted stuff (I'm a bit of a clean freak!) -
Inappropriate? Two separate items related to this:
- I now have hundreds of items, and I have to look at them fifteen at a time. This means that "click on Tags in the menu bar" is not a useful strategy for seeing which tags I currently have assigned.
- Is there any way to use the email interface to remove a tag from an item (such as: update #1 -@tagname)? -
Inappropriate?I use Sandy for a modified Getting Things Done (GTD) task tracking system, and it's really a drawback that I can't easily get a list of what tags I've assigned (and, ideally, how many items have been assigned each).
One great solution would be "lookup tags" which would return this in email (and with an analogous Web page):
===
Tags you've assigned:
#1 @groceries (11 items)
#2 @household (3 items)
#3 @todo (77 items)
#4 @todo and @vacation (14 items)
#5 @vacation (14 items)
Tip: respond with "lookup #1" to see a summary list of all items with that tag.

Inappropriate?hey! when I wasn't paying attention, you released a tag cloud-type feature that displays all the tags I currently have assigned, in a block in the right rail.
Nifty!!!
A (possibly related) thing that I think you changed is this: now, when I display Tags -> Any Tag on the Web site, I see only certain of my items (in particular, contacts are excluded). This is a vast improvement in usability -- it's not entirely intuitive (I don't see all my tagged items, only certain types), but as a heavy user, I can tell you that it "feels" right for my hundreds of contacts not to contaminate my (few, important) todo items when I show items by tag.
Some people will need to be able to "show me my contacts that are tagged with (whatever)..." still, now that there is a tag cloud available, that's probably less urgent, and the current (new) behavior probably is a good compromise.

Inappropriate?I tried to remove an old empty tag by pasting in Sandy's example, using the minus sign as instructed:
update #1 -@tag_name
altering it with the tag name I wanted to remove like this:
update #1 -@calls
and it did not work. Am I misunderstanding?
I also cannot see "Tags" in the menu bar.
I also have the problem core mentioned about not being able to make done items go away unless I uncheck the "include done" box (and I keep trying to make this the default by having Firefox open to the Sandy page with the box unchecked, yet periodically I have to keep unchecking it). The weird thing is, *sometimes* when I toggle back and forth between to-do and done, the item disappears, always satisfying to watch but I don't know why it doesn't happen all the time.
I like Sandy and her cute communication m.o., and yes, voted for Sandy...but I still get too many of those emails-of-noncomprehension from her when I try to do anything beyond the basics.
I’m craving an actual cupcake.

Inappropriate?Howdy, Lo!
I just gave it a whirl again myself to make sure something wasn't amiss but Sandy did just what I expected:
Remember test one @test1
Update #1 @test2 -@test1
Update #1 +@test3 -@test2
And ended up with just @test3.
Could you possibly forward one of Sandy's responses where she didn't do quite the right thing on to help@iwantsandy.com and I would be glad to do some troubleshooting.

I know this is a late response to something I managed to overlook but I wanted to note that this is a nice idea and something that I too would find useful.

Inappropriate?Hello, Lo.
I have been going over just what to set the "include done" to by default myself. I suppose -- based on feedback I have seen from everyone -- that hiding done items by default no matter what the view is probably a better policy than the differential results depending on view.
Thanks for the great feedback.

Inappropriate?Hi again, Lo.
You were absolutely right — when I looked at it again this evening, it was more a bug than anything else to be showing done to-dos by default. This has been turned off by default in the latest version of the site which should go live in the morning.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Inappropriate?Rael, I still can't figure out how to get rid of empty tags. In particular:
* I create a tag called "foo" (e.g., for testing purposes)
* I delete all items with the "foo" tag
* The tag persists in my tag cloud for some period of time
* If I have referenced the tag in any emails to Sandy, it persists forever
right?
How do I get rid of it?
