Directly connecting IM to Sandy
With all the problems with Twitter recently, have you thought about directly connecting sandy to an IM service (GTalk probably) ?

Inappropriate?I think this would be a great idea. Not that I have anything against Twitter, but it would keep Sandy from relying on another service being up and working.
Although I would probably look into having a few options available other than GTalk. AIM possibly, maybe even Yahoo and MSN. I see no reason to force people into any one chat program if you can help it. -
Inappropriate? While twitter im is down, i'm using ping.fm to IM Sandy. Looks like "@tt d s r to move car in 20 min". Isn't very convenient to type, is it. Would love to have a direct Sandy-gTalk tool

Inappropriate?I attempted twittering Sandy a couple days ago (boy, does that sound naughty!) and failed horribly. Can you briefly describe how you set up ping.fm to IM sandy? Can Sandy notify you through IM with ping.fm?
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Sure. Using Ping.fm you can update your twitter status or send direct messages.
In order to do that, you first set up your twitter account to work with ping.fm, then you set up ping.fm to work with google talk (add buddy pingdotfm@gmail.com and send a confirmation).
Then, make sure that Sandy knows your twitter account.
Sending a task or a reminder:
e.g. @tt d s r to find some CDs to take to the car @home @todo
@tt - that way you tell ping.fm to update your twitter status
d - direct message
s - Sandy's twitter username
r - "remember"
@todo @home - tags
Unfortunately, Sandy can not notify you via ping.fm, Though with twitter sms alerts enabled you may get some reply. It isn't very stable lately

Inappropriate?Totally agree.
My major interaction with iwantsandy is through command line entry e.g. "r pay bill tomorrow". Using twitter makes this "d s r pay bill tomorrow" which is OK. But... messy and unnecessary.
IM is a natural way to send these instructions to iwantsandy.
When on the desktop, and on the iPhone, I use mail.app to send instructions to iwantsandy, but desktop mail.app complains when I don't fill in the subject. Not a big deal, but also messy and unecessary.
What I might do, is create an Applescript that will bring up a dialog box for me to enter my command entry, which is sent to my iwantsandy email address.
I think a similar thing on the iPhone would be cool (i.e. click a single icon on the page, which brings up a page whose sole responsibility is to receive text data that is emailed to my iwantsandy account).
I’m unconcerned
