Does bcc'ing Sandy invite everybody else in the conversation?
I bcc'd Sandy rather than cc'ing her, and my intention was to invite everyone on the thread. Does it work like this, or do I need to resend the note with her in the cc field?

Hi Thor,
Sandy follows the norms of email conversation pretty closely. If you send email directly to her, she'll assume a response is warranted if appropriate. Cc her and she'll remain quietly in the background, unless you address her directly ("Sandy, ..."). Bcc her and she'll assume a response to everyone would come as a surprise (ever had someone appear out of the blue in a conversation you didn't know they were a part of?).

Rael

Hi Thor,
No, you would need to re-send. After all, Sandy assumes that if you've Bcc'd her that you don't want the other recipients to know that she's listening in, so she won't send any email to them.
Thanks for writing in!
Best,
David

Inappropriate?Hi Thor,
I read your question, and read the two responses...
You said that you *wanted* to invite everyone. If that's the case, then, according to the two responses, you would indeed need to resend the note with her in the CC: field.
I’m a little disappointed that the two reps didn't seem to answer the question.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for clearing that up, Azianflu. Yes indeed, if you want to invite people you need to include Sandy on the To or Cc.
I’m appreciative
-
Inappropriate? It would be nice if there were a way to include Sandy in an email, as if addressed in the cc or to fields, without revealing the secret address used to contact Sandy. I thought bcc would work for that, but the way it actually works does make sense when I think about it.
I guess in a way you're trusting your human contacts receiving the email not to prank Sandy by spoofing your email address and telling her to forget everything. But as emails get forwarded and saved and printed and whatever, I can't help but wonder about the possible shenanigans.
Although it does seem like a low-risk thing, are we protected by any clever anti-spoofing measures? -
Inappropriate?Nevermind.
Now that I think about it a little more, I realize that the worst someone could do is add stuff. Retrieving or deleting items wouldn't be possible, even when spoofing the email address. -
Inappropriate? Can you give an example of when someone would cc Sandy, but not directly address her? How might that be useful?
-
Inappropriate?I wish that bcc just added the email to the friends list, but not contact them. That way I can use sandy to look up email addresses when I am not at my computer (using twitter). Is there a way to add friends without sandy contacting them?
