how do you create a bookmark or note?

Hi omars,
To create a bookmark, just ask Sandy to remember any URL (and, optionally, any tags you'd like to add), like so:
remember http://www.iwantsandy.com @nifty
She'll remember that as a bookmark and reply with a few details she gleaned by visiting the bookmarked page itself: title, description, and (if there's an associated RSS feed) the latest couple of stories from the site.
To create a note, just ask Sandy to remember a sentence or paragraph and -- if it doesn't look like a todo (isn't tagged @todo or @done) or an appointment -- she'll just remember it as a note.
remember Steve likes risotto, but Pat can't stand the stuff
remember Molly's shoe size is a 4 @shopping @clothes
And you can look these up just like anything else:
look up iwantsandy
look up risotto
look up @shoes

Inappropriate? Can Sandy remember a multi-line note? If so, I haven't been able to figure it out.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Steve,
If you think of any email message as essentially a note, then you can just ask Sandy to remember the email message itself with:
Remember
on a line by itself. If you want to tag the message, you can do:
Remember @project
(Use whatever tags you want in place of "project.")
Having just pushed the edges of this particular envelope myself, I can tell you that there are a couple of things that aren't as I'd like them (and they're now on our list):
* When you do a lookup later for any of the text or tags later, you should receive the full message back if it is the only match, but you still need to follow up with a "lookup #1", which is silly.
* Sandy wonders if you perhaps left something out. I'm not sure how exactly to balance that and actually having her offer help if she receives something that doesn't look quite complete. Good to noodle, though.
Hope this helps!

Inappropriate? Before I found this thread I tried to add a Note using the New 'button' in the web interface. However, I didn't put the 'Remember' at the start of the note. Sandy said she received the email but I can't find the information I sent. Is it lost now because I didn't put 'Remember'?
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate? Is it possible to just tag it with @note @bookmark and Sandy just files it away as such?
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate?"If you think of any email message as essentially a note, then you can just ask Sandy to remember the email message itself with:
Remember
on a line by itself. If you want to tag the message, you can do:"
Note that while this does work, Sandy will also send you an error message after you send out this e-mail, saying, "I got your email but couldn't find anything you asked me to do..." -
Inappropriate? This behavior doesn't seem to be working for me. I used the 'new' interface from Sandy's page with:
"remember @gifts
Here's some text about some gifts"
When I clicked on the detail page for the confirmation in the sandy interface, it seemed like it worked, but there is no new tag "gifts" and searching for gifts returns nothing.
Persnickety behavior like this is what stops me from diving headlong into this. Sandy is getting in my way rather than increasing my productivity. IMHO, the only thing Sandy currently has going for her over stikkit is recurring appointments and SMS reminders that work for me. That is discouraging.
I’m sad that stikkit has been abandonded for a non-upgrade.

Inappropriate?A multi-line email doesn't seem to always work for me. I tried it as was suggested by Rael with "remember" at the top of an email then a multi-line shopping list below. Only the remember line is being remembered. It worked with one email so the results seem inconsistent.

Inappropriate? This would be a big plus - i'd love to be able to jot down a longer "note" a have sandy remember it for me.

Inappropriate?Hi folks,
We're noodling just how to implement this simply and obviously while at the same time not introducing any potential conflict and confusion. What's currently in play is forwarding whatever section you want Sandy to remember and she'll pick up the next block of quoted material, like so:
--
To: Sandy
Subject: re: that thing
Sandy, please remember that thing @things
> This is that thing I was telling you about. Before you dismiss
> it as just another thing -- like one of those Thing Ones or
> Thing Twos -- you should know that it is potentially the most
> interesting thing I've ever encountered.
...
--
How does that feel to you?

Inappropriate?I like the idea above about using the @note and @bookmark tags, and while I don't believe that it would trigger Sandy to change the type of artifact she remembers (i.e. adding the @note tag to what is obviously a meeting shouldn't file it as a note instead of an appointment), it should allow you to easily lookup all your notes or bookmarks, if that is your net goal.
I kinda think that the forwarded text is kind of a clunky solution, especially if you are trying to send a note from your phone or Jott (which is the kind of situation where I would think the note function is likely the most useful.
Instead, why not just create special functions for the verbs "note" and "bookmark". Right now, the only verbs that seem commonly used are "remember", "remind", "lookup", and "update". But "note" & "bookmark" seem to make sense as other possible options. And strings like the following make sense too:
b www.iwantsandy.com
Sandy, please bookmark www.getsatisfaction.com
note Steve likes risotto, but Pat can't stand the stuff
n Molly's shoe size is a 4 @shopping @gifts
Perhaps have the "note" verb could even shut off looking for additional instructions at later paragraph breaks, allowing for any block of text to follow to be considered part of the note. In this case, your above note would just have to look like:
--
To: Sandy
Subject: re: that thing
n @things
This is that thing I was telling you about. Before you dismiss it as just another thing -- like one of those Thing Ones or Thing Twos -- you should know that it is potentially the most interesting thing I've ever encountered.

Inappropriate? The issue i see with this is that sometimes i want to dash off a note to myself, as part of a reminder, and having to "quote" it would be difficult/pain/slow me down.
What is the potential difficulty in having Sandy remember the entire body of any email in which the _subject_ line is 'remember..."?
I can see that _in the body_ of an email it becomes more complex...
Hurm. You probably don't want to get into any weird 'wiki-like' formatting (which is why you are going with the standard email quoting methods, i'm guessing)... I wish i had an easy solution... All the things i can think of are kind of kludges.
A (simple?) kludge would be -
Each paragraph which starts with a special character is marked for inclusion - ie. start a para with a '>' and Sandy will 'remember' that text. All para's marked like so will be remembered by the preceding 'Sandy, remember...' directive, so you could have more then one...
I'll keep thinking about it... -
Inappropriate? An additional problem I see with using standard forward/reply quote characters to indicate a note... what if I include Sandy in a conversation with multiple people, replies get quoted, and additional events get directed to Sandy later in the string. I could see where action items suddenly getting huge paragraphs of text added to them accidently.
-
Inappropriate?I think that anything that is being "included" in the 'note' would not get parsed by Sandy. So, using the '>', anything after the '>' would be saved as is.
-
Inappropriate?Sorry for the negativity.. but... that's terrible!
This should be one of the most basic functions of sandy and therefore one of the easiest to implement.
My idea:
If an email (or jott or SMS or etc) is addressed directly to sandy with no cc's, have her remember the entire text of the email. Period. Perhaps scan the first line for keywords (I would guess most folks would put tags here) and then ignore all other keywords in the rest of the body of the message. The text should be parsed so that it is searchable, but that is about it. If an email cc's Sandy, then it makes sense to bring in the "line by line" keyword style where she only remembers and parses lines that explicitly call her and provide keywords.
Creating new tags would be okay too, but it would get in the way of Jott and I think it is still a little too clunky for what I feel should be basic functionality. -
Inappropriate?Somehow, Sandy has to remember and return ALL the content of whatever is passed to her.
-
Inappropriate? How about if the subject line contains "remember", she just remembers the whole email? If I send her an email with the subject "Remember directions to John's" and I include the directions in the body of the email, it would make sense that she would remember a note with the title "directions to John's" and the entire email body attached to it. That seems intuitive to me.
This also means I could forward her an email I want her to remember, and just prefix the subject line with "remember" or "r". -
