I want Sandy Export on its way
Howdy, folks.
I've been working over the past few days to finish up full export functionality for Sandy.
To make your stuff portable and importable, Sandy will gather all of your appointments, to-dos, contacts, bookmarks, lists, and notes into 6 standards-based files: iCalendar for appointments and to-dos, vCard for contacts, and plain text for notes, lists, and bookmarks.
You will be able to download all of your stuff and import it into an alternate calendar, to-do list, contact management or note-taking application.
You'll also be provided a person-readable text file containing everything you've had Sandy remember for you. (Open it in your favorite text editor (Notepad, TextEdit, Word, et al) or your Web browser.)
I'm making it available for testing by our Get Satisfaction non-employee "deputies" later today and (assuming all is as expected) to everyone on Tuesday or Wednesday.
I hope those of you in US had an enjoyable Thanksgiving break (and everyone else a good weekend)!

Howdy, folks.
I want Sandy's new Export functionality is now available.
You'll find it linked to from the top of every page of the site, as a new tab in the Settings [http://iwantsandy.com/settings], and can jump directly to the export page at http://iwantsandy.com/export

Inappropriate?Thank you for the update, but can you please tell me whether you'll be making export options for Stikkit. I have 100's of contacts up there (more then i'd ever be able to write down), and if you don't create an export option i'm going to be really stuffed!
I’m very concerned
-
Of course! I was getting Sandy's export done first since that's the majority of the folks and then converting that over for Stikkit. -
Inappropriate?Hi,
I've just about completed testing — with the help of Dave, Randall, and other friends of Sandy — and expect to make Sandy's export functionality available to all tomorrow (Tuesday) evening

Inappropriate?Seriously, you're "shutting off the servers" (quote from your blog) on the 8th? And you've not released anything that'll let us have our data back yet?
So, users who swallowed all the Sandy-marketing and decided to depend on your service get less than a week to react. Stikkit (aptly named!) users get even less time. Just tough luck for the people on vacation this week, I guess.
Twitter (and you, Rael) really, REALLY are screwing this transition up. Maybe someone can whip up a "fail whale for karma" logo.
I’m never trusting you guys again
-
Inappropriate?Well, it's now Weds morning, and do we have it yet?
I pity anyone who took a week away from email and came back to discover they'd lost everything.

Inappropriate?Rael,
Thank you for the update. I trust that you're working as hard as you can, knowing that transitions are never easy on anyone.
Know that there are those of us who appreciate your situation, and all of your efforts. Thanks for keeping us updated.

I’m confident things will work out just fine...

Inappropriate?Howdy, folks!
I got waylaid by a little further testing.
The export is on its way as I type this... I've just been staging the latest version and will be deploying it in the next few minutes. I'll be sure to post an update when done.

Inappropriate? Thanks, Rael! I've got my data downloading now.
If anyone else is trying to import their contacts into Gmail, and finding that Gmail can't accept Sandy's VCF files, I found this utility to convert VCF to CSV for Gmail: http://labs.brotherli.ch/vcfconvert/
