iCal Problems
I'm having two problems with iCal on OS X Leopard.
1) Subscribing works but refresh says authentication failed.
I can subscribe to my calendar OK (See 2 below) but if I refresh the calendar, I get the exclamation point of death and it says authentication failed. If I delete the subscription and re-add it, it again subscribes fine but can't be refreshed.
2) Not everything shows up in my calendar.
When I subscribe to my calendar, some of my repeating items do not show up after the first occurrence and none of my todos show up even though I told iCal not to remove task, reminders, or attachments.
This makes me anxious because I can't rely on a system if I know it's dropping stuff. :\

Inappropriate?Hi Jamie,
We've all been having tremendous trouble with iCal under Leopard -- beyond Sandy, with other services and subscriptions (c.f. http://www.rememberthemilk.com/forums..., for instance). And the symptoms are the same. Another service I subscribed to worked and refreshed just fine until the next day when suddenly the to-dos disappeared and then a refresh turned up the same error again.
Are you having any success with iCal under Leopard and any other subscription?

Inappropriate?Hi again, Jamie!
So I gave this a couple-three hours of thought — and more than enough fiddling with subscriptions, sequences, and settings. And I just may well have figured it out. Not the _why_, mind you (that's still a riddle tightly held by the iCal sphinx); but I do have a fix that's been working for me through multiple manual and timed subscription refreshes.
Here's what you do:
1. Control-click the subscribed calendar and select Delete to remove it. (While it may not be necessary to start fresh, it doesn't hurt.)
2. Subscribe to your I want Sandy calendar by selecting Calendar > Subscribe... and pasting webcal://iwantsandy.com/list.ics into the "Calendar URL" box and clicking the "Subscribe" button. (All of this is no different from clicking the "iCal" link at the bottom of just about any page on iwantsandy.com, but I thought I'd save you some browsing.)
3. Type your email address (the one by which Sandy knows you) and password (the one you use at iwantsandy.com) and click the "OK" button.
4. Now, when the '"Sandy" Info' box appears, leave everything as it is — i.e. let iCal remove alarms, attachments, and to-do items and not auto-refresh. We'll take care of that in a moment. Just click the "OK" button.
Poof! You're subscribed to I want Sandy's calendar.
"But..." — you're saying to yourself — "...we're back to where I started: still no refresh, no alarms, and no to-dos!" Don't worry; we'll get to that in a moment.
5. Control-click the subscribed "Sandy" calendar and select Refresh. You'll most likely be asked for your login and password again (Grrr!). Go ahead and re-enter your email address and I want Sandy password and click the "OK" button.
And iCal should refresh your I want Sandy calendar as expected. But go ahead and push your luck anyway and control-click and refresh again. It should once again work as expected.
Now, let's get back to those alarms and to-dos...
6. Select File > Get Info to open up the subscription dialog box again.
7. Uncheck the "Remove: Alarms" checkbox and click the "OK" button.
8. Control-click the subscribed "Sandy" calendar and select Refresh.
All of your subscribed calendar entries should once again have alarms set for them.
Finally, let's get those to-dos for you...
9. Select File > Get Info again.
10. Uncheck the "Remove: To Do items" checkbox.
11. Also go ahead and set the "Auto-refresh" to something reasonable like "Every day" or "Every hour" and click the "OK" button.
12. Control-click the subscribed "Sandy" calendar and select Refresh.
Poof! You've got appointments, alarms, and to-dos — and in a mere 12 steps too!
Why the need for a tango when a Minute Waltz should have don the trick? Your guess is as good as mine; I'm betting on iCal's circuits being blown by having to handle a whole bunch of new appointments, to-dos, and alarms at the same time. By spoon feeding iCal this info in bite-sized bits, we allowed it to process just one of these tasks at a time and so not simply fall over with nothing to offer but a numerical error.
We all eagerly await Apple's release of OS X 10.5.2 [http://www.macrumors.com/2008/01/31/a...] and hope they'll have provided Leopard's iCal with a shot of whatever Tiger's iCal had.
Please do let us know how you get on and I'll be sure to post this more widely in the hopes it helps more people out.

Inappropriate?Howdy, folks!
With the hot-off-the-virtual-presses announcement of Sandy's private iCalendar feeds, anyone still having any trouble with iCal not being able to refresh might give these a whirl instead of the username and password protected version.
In truth it should make little to no difference, but if you're still unable to refresh, it couldn't hurt to give it a whirl.
1. Hide the old non-refreshing (pun unintended but enjoyed!) subscription by un-checking its checkbox — this is just to get it out of the way and avoid any confusion about which subscription you're seeing.
2. Read more at and follow the links from http://getsatisfaction.com/iwantsandy... to turn on and subscribe to the private iCalendar feed for your account.

I’m pretty confident you should have no further trouble

Inappropriate?Hi Rael,
I followed your steps above and it seems to be working for me (so far). I have Leopard 10.5.2. My persisting problem is with To-Dos. The first time I subscribed, the items I have tagged to-do showed up in iCal under To Do items sorted by date (on the column to the right of the calendar). Now, they don't. They only show up directly on the calendar itself. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Eric

Inappropriate?I also can't get to-dos added and some of the ones marked @done are there as well.
I’m frustrated and scared about data integrity
