I'd like to know if Sandy can send an SMS of the lookup results.
The more people who ask this question, the more it gets noticed.

Inappropriate? After doing some digging around and playing today, I did find it would return my results with the lookup, but in the case of items with a specific tag, it would only return the first item via SMS. (This is when I set up my items as separate entries all tagged with @shopping.)
When I tried setting up a list for Shopping and asking it to lookup that, it just returned the name of the list via SMS.
Either way via email gave me the results I wanted, but I would find it to be absolutely KILLER if could get an SMS on my phone in the middle of the store of all my items either tagged a certain way or the full text of the list in the SMS. How would I do that in the middle of the store? Simple - just use Jott to send the command to Sandy. It works great, except that I cannot get all the items (first match only for a tag), or I only get the name of the list.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me get all items in my SMS that match a tag or get a full list! You would make sure my children were getting their milk and/or juice because I never remember my paper list when I leave for the store!!!!!! If I could call Jott from the store and get an SMS response with everything, it would be INCREDIBLE!!! -
Inappropriate?I agree, this would be incredibly useful and am looking forward to seeing a solution.
-
Inappropriate?I also agree. This is what I think would make Sandy a Killer App for me.
I'm not organized at all. I'm lucky if I remember to put on pants when I leave for work. This is why I need Sandy. I need to a way to access my lists and reminders after I've already gotten to the store. True, entering the reminders helps me remember them myself slightly better, but if I could have this stuff sent to my phone, I'd be beside myself with glee!
I’m salivating

Inappropriate? The 160-character limit on SMS messages makes this a tricky request. One workaround would be to break up a longer message into multiple messages. If your phone has a web browser, another possibility would be an SMS reply that contains a link to a web page that shows your lookup results. The site isn't very easy to access using the browsers on my phone, so in the case of the web link it might be preferable that login not be required.
-
Inappropriate?I'd prefer the multiple SMS messages - but I get free incoming messages and do not have a web browser. Maybe it would be a setting if people wanted a full lookup response sent via SMS so those who don't want to run into $$$ with multiple messages could avoid it. This would still be such a killer for me. I did try messing around with the GMail interface my cell provider provides in their 'tied-down' browser (not a full web browser), but it was so slow and painful and I ended up having problems. I would love just the nice clean SMS message(s)!

Inappropriate?Just signed up for Sandy & found this topic in looking around. I have wanted an easy access to my groc. list for a VERY long time. Just another "Here, here" to this idea! Purty, please.

Inappropriate?Let me add a HUGE ditto to this! I actually signed up for sandy because I thought the service + twitter might have this kind of functionality, and I am disappointed to find that it does not. This feature would seriously make Sandy a must-have for GTDers. And the feature would seriously rock. my. world. If I had it, i couldn't do without it.
As an aside, I love the cupcake avatars!
I’m sad that Sandy doesn't have this feature!

Inappropriate?Glad I found this thread. I would also love this feature. Especially the part about using Jott.
Currently it's possible to text Sandy (by using Twitter) and Sandy will respond to the text message (through Twitter). (Note: Twitter must be set up to forward direct messages to your cell phone.)
There are two problems with this. 1) even when Sandy replies through Twitter, she only replies with the *name* of the list. 2) There isn't a way to Jott to Sandy and have her respond to my cell phone (by sms or Twitter). I've tried some extensive workarounds too. See http://getsatisfaction.com/iwantsandy... -
Inappropriate?I kinda-almost found a workaround for this. I found a free service (http://www.mutube.com/projects/open-e...) that will take an email and forward it as an SMS message to your phone. I then wrote a filter/rule in my email client to forward any message from Sandy with the word "lookup" in it to the service. The problem is all the heading info is more than 160 characters so all you see in the text message is the forwarding information!
What I need is either a email to sms service that has a good formatter built in or an email client with the same. -
Inappropriate?I have been trying all day to figure out how to get Sandy to text me my grocery list!! I'm glad other people are looking for this feature.

Inappropriate?Oooo... I found something cool. At the risk of seeming rude (and I will immediately switch back to using Sandy for this when the feature becomes available), you CAN use a Twitter/Remember the Milk (rememberthemilk.com) combo to have your tagged to-do lists (created/managed on RTM) sent to you via sms. If your list is longer than what will fit in one sms, you'll continue receiving SMS messages until you've received all of the items on your list.
Downside: when Twitter is down, this obviously doesn't work.
Documentation here:

Not perfect but does the job. Seriously, this feature is the only reason I opened up an RTM account, and it seems to work pretty well (I'm planning a huge family event, and this feature is a godsend.) I will gladly consolidate to IWantSandy when Sandy offers this feature!
p.s. You can also use Jott/RTM link to add items to lists if you'd prefer, and use the "tag with" voice command to tag the item as you see fit (e.g. "groceries".)

Inappropriate?I asked Rael and he said that Jott already had this feature. I wasn't sure, so I checked it out again.
Initially I tried setting Jott so that it sends "confirmation text messages". (http://jott.com/settings_phone.aspx) This didn't do what I wanted though..
The correct thing to do is to edit your "Jott link" for Sandy. In Jott, click "links" , then click on the "Edit" for your Sandy link. Finally check the "Send SMS Response:" button and save.
As a side note: there is an additional problem in Jott. It turns out that you have to be careful that you don't have yourself listed as a contact. (The same phone number you registered with Jott) Evidently that confuses the service. See this link. (http://jott.com/jott/faq.html#a58)
Still, this solution will have Jott send an "SMS response" for *every* Jott you make to Sandy. Not just the ones where you want her to lookup something.

Inappropriate?Complete lookup replies via SMS is really a must. Please, please, please!?

Inappropriate?I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Sandy and use it extensively in through Jott. That said, there is a free outside source solution. I use reQall specifically, and only, for SMS access to my shopping list.
"With reQall’s organizing and sharing capabilities, the family shopping has never been easier. Because reQall recognizes key words like "buy," it can put those items right on your shopping list.
Enter “buy milk” and reQall knows to put it on your shopping list.
Want to share the shopping with your spouse? Just enter, “Tell John to buy shoes for the kids,” and it will go on his shopping list.
Even better, this memory tool connects it all! So you never have to stand in the middle of the grocery store and realize “My shopping list is on the frig!” Just call reQall on your cell phone and have reQall play your shopping list or even better, send it to you in a text message. " -
Inappropriate?Complete replies via SMS is tricky because SMS (like twitter) has a very restrictive character limit.
How was ReQall accomplish it? Multiple text messages? -
Inappropriate?Yeraze,
Combining Remember the Milk/Twitter, a person can use their cell phone to direct message Remember the Milk on Twitter, and RTM sends a particular list from one's RTM account (you have to add RTM as a friend on your Twitter account, and RTM on Twitter has to know what RTM.com account you have, but you get the picture.) If the characters in the text message exceed Twitter's limit, RTM just sends multiple text messages until the message is complete.
I don't have experience with ReQall yet, but I'd imagine this is how it would work there too. -
Inappropriate?Yes, ReQall will send multiple texts.
Unfortunately, it is limited to only one shopping list. RTM is superior in this respect. However, if all you need is the one, ReQuall is much easier and faster to set up than RTM/Twitter.
Personally, after Jott and Sandy (both of which I love dearly), I was just exhausted with setting up and learning new systems and so I liked ReQuall because it met my needs without any tweaking and no learning curve. However, GTD followers and others who rely extensively on multiple lists would greatly benefit from the RTM/Twitter combo!
