Inappropriate?Hi Chris,
We're working with Sandy to make her Daily Digests more configurable.
While we're on the subject: what would people like most to see in their Daily Digests — in terms of content, delivery, functionality, etc?

Inappropriate?OK Rael. Since you asked, here are a couple of suggestions.
We were actually talking about this earlier, and here's a link to that thread.
http://getsatisfaction.com/iwantsandy...
First, there are multiple versions of the Daily Digest. There is at least 1) the website version (iwantsandy.com/home) and 2) the printed version of the website Daily Digest, and 3) the Daily Digest email that Sandy sends out every day. These are all a little bit different. In particular, the printed version of the Daily Digest on the website doesn't truncate the items the way the website does. Instead it uses more lines and wraps the text. (I wish my lists were presented in full detail, see below.) The Daily Digest sent via email is the most thorough. (Although it still doesn't list the "context". See below.)
Then there are the versions of the Daily Digest that is not for "today". These lack separate sections for the custom tags (including todo items)
Second, the todo handling could meet my needs better. I'm not a die-hard GTD fan, but I learned a thing or two from it. My todo items usually go through three distinct stages. One, I add an item to Sandy, usually through Jott. Second, once a week, I look through my upcoming todo items and gather further information about those things. I then update those items with complete information on how to do the task. Third, during the week I do the items on my list. One of the main things I learned from GTD was to make sure that I have ALL of the information that I need to actually do a task at my fingertips when I'm trying to get things done. That's what the once a week planning stage is for. For example: a todo named "renew my swimming club membership on Tuesday" isn't good enough because I know I'm going to need both my account number and the phone number that I'm supposed to call. I want them both visible on the daily digest printout. I know that when Tuesday rolls around, I won't have either my account number or the phone number of the club with me.
The way that I currently work around this is that I have Sandy update the name of the item with all the relevant information that I'm going to need. For example: "renew my swimming club membership. Account number 123456 Phone:310-555-1234 Talk to Jackie, she has the discount. $184 instead of $254". I don't like this workaround however. My item names get really long, with multiple phone numbers and other details all pushed into the name field. It makes the event unruly, it seems hard to manage.
I suggest that there be a separate "details" field to items, This is just an editable text area. (This could be automatically filled with the same info as the "context" field, etc). With a "details" area, I can add all the relevant information I need and not have it clutter up the name. (This is important because of searching and sorting items. Also, on the website version of the Daily Digest, Only a one line name is visible.) There would then be two further options. 1) Have the Daily Digest printout include the details section for every item, or 2) have the Daily Digest NOT include the "details". (Maybe there could be a user setting controlling this.) In the case of #2 there should be a method where the user can lookup the "details" for an item at a later date. (i.e. have it sent via sms)
With this method you can be sure of having all the necessary info when you need it. Either you have it all printed out on paper, or you can Jott to Sandy to look up all the details for the specific event. For example: "lookup swimming club tag with sms". (By the way, this example Jott doesn't actually work. But I think there should be a way to direct a lookup to reply to your phone. Sandy currently sends the result via email, but I want it via sms.)
Another example is lists. My daily digest (printed via the website) has a reference to my grocery list. But it's just a reference, the actual items in the list are not part of the printout. (printed from the website.) In order to get the entire list you either need to print it out separately and carry it with you, or you need to do a lookup via Twitter. (Again, doing it via Jott doesn't work. And there is no way to send an sms to Sandy directly, is there?)
More suggestions.
1) printing improvements.
The website (iwantsandy.com/home and push the "print" button) doesn't look like the Daily Digest that is sent by email. In particular, I want my lists to actually list their elements. I need that on paper. Either the website Daily Digest should be changed or I need a way to print out the email Sandy sends. (better printing) Can I have Sandy attach a file that is formatted for printing?
2) Differences with "today" daily digest vs. anything else.
The current daily digest (for "today", i.e. iwantsandy.com/home) behaves very differently from other daily digests. This is also visible when using the Google Gadget. When clicking on the Sandy icon for today, you get a much more extensive list.
* The "today" daily digest lists other "custom" tags in their own sections
* The "today" daily digest includes overdue items marked with a tag.
(i.e. if I didn't mark a previous @todo as @done, it will continue to show up in the section devoted to the custom tags.)
3) tag improvements
* display to-do items with dates coming up soon.
I suggest that the "future cutoff" for items should be configurable.
(i.e. I want to display todo items that will be due in two days.
I want two days to be the cutoff, not "today". I want a list of all undone todos with dates that are either 2 days in the future or anytime in the past.)
4) other improvements
* option to have Sandy send the Daily Digest for a particular day.
(There is already an option on the website "Email a fresh copy", but there isn't a command to do it by email or Jott, etc. The closest thing right now is "lookup today".)
This new command could be
> lookup Daily Digest for xdate. (where xdate is "today" or tomorrow or 2008/04/05, etc
> generate Daily Digest for xdate.
* option to get Sandy to send a Daily Digest for a particular week?
* option to have Sandy direct the results of a lookup to another medium.
(i.e. send a "lookup" command via Jott, but want the answer sent to my phone via SMS.)
5) @todo vs @done
Is it just me, or should @done be available for items other than @todo? I mean, I have several tasks that use a particular tag, @project, and ALL items with that tag are tasks. I don't really feel like I have to tag them all with @todo in addition to @project though, because I have my Daily Digest set up to list items with the tag @project. It works fine. However, when I finish any of these items, I have to tag each one with @todo before I can tag it as @done. Is this really necessary?

Inappropriate? For me, the big thing would be seeing the next X number of days and everything that goes with those days. That might get me to forget the milk. Get it... Well, I thought it was funny....
But on the serious side of things again, what would be even better would be if certain tags would go ahead a different number of days. For example, I can have @classwork show the next 5 days, @work show the next 3 days, stuff like that. Some things I don't need to know as far in advance.
That's really the only functional thing I can think of, but I can think of one pretty big cosmetic change that could prove to be functional as well; alternating row colors.
It would make things so much easier to scan if the rows alternated colors. It wouldn't need to anything so dramatic as black to yellow backgrounds, just something where it's obvious when scrolling through the email.
