Jott to Sandy from your phone
Howdy, folks.
Thanks to all of you who expressed an interest in jotting to Sandy from your phone. Jott [http://jott.com] is a fabulous voice-to-web service and getting Sandy and Jott talking is something we've had on our own personal wishlists for a while now.
And the other day we just carved out a bit of time and made it happen.
I have to say, even for me it was pretty cool the other day to call up and "talk" to Sandy.
So, while we're awaiting the official Sandy Jott Link's appearance on Jott's official list of links [http://jott.com/jott-links/], you should feel free to give jotting to Sandy a whirl by setting a personal Jott link up manually.
To do so...
1. Get yourself a free Jott account at http://jott.com/register/
2. Visit your Jott Links page at http://jott.com/JottLinks.aspx
3. Click the "Developers - got a custom link to add?" link on the bottom-right of that page
4. In the "Link name" field, type: Sandy
5. In the "Setup Url" field, type: http://iwantsandy.com/settings/jott
6. In the "Link Url" field, type: http://iwantsandy.com/messages/jott
7. Check the "SMS" checkbox and indicate that you agree to the Jott Terms of Service.
8. Click the "Save" button and you'll be redirected right to the Jott Settings page on iwantsandy.com.
9. Turn on Jott support for Sandy by clicking the "Yes" radio button and the "Save" button.
And you're all set up to Jott to Sandy!
Call 1-866-JOTT-123. When asked "Who do you want to Jott" say "Sandy" and let Sandy know what to remember for you or remind you about.
You'll find some more detail on Sandy's Jott help page at http://iwantsandy.com/help/jott
(Obviously this will take only a couple of steps when the Sandy Jott Link appears, but it is still pretty straightforward if you're feeling even slightly adventurous.)
Enjoy!
Rael

Inappropriate?Sweet. I've been looking for this kind of service for a long time now. Thanks!
I’m very very happy
-
Inappropriate?Cool. Done. Tested. It works. I love it. Thanks.
FYI -- Step 8 should read "Add" button instead of "Save"
I’m jubilant!!

Inappropriate? This has stopped working for me. Sandy's service works fine (emailing Sandy and getting reminders, calendar entries, etc.) but calling into Jott seems to work fine, but it never gets to Sandy. On the Jott site, it shows as being sent to Sandy, and I get an SMS to my phone and email to my inbox, but nothing shows up on Sandy's site for me.
I’m bummin'
-
Inappropriate?Hi W,
I'm guessing the reply from Jott doesn't include any of Sandy's reply in it -- a couple of folks mentioned this. We'll look into it from our end. Thanks for letting us know!
Rael -
Inappropriate?Hi, Rael.
If you're talking about SMS replies, I've turned those off so I don't get those on my phone. As for any email replies from Jott, I didn't see any of Sandy's "stuff". I'd be glad to send one to you, if you like. -
Inappropriate?Hi W,
I just jotted to Sandy a moment ago and it worked like a charm (I was having the same difficulties you were a few days back, but it spontaneously improved).
Please do send one of those replies from Jott to help@iwantsandy.com. The more info we have, the more likely we can detect a pattern (assuming there is one). And that goes for anyone else having the same trouble wifinetguy is having.
Rael -
Inappropriate?Rael,
Just forward the emails as requested.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Thanks, W.
-
Inappropriate?mine is working fine...are you including the "remember to..." in your call you jott?
-
Inappropriate?Well, I'm using "remind me ..." which I think is the same, isn't it? I'll try "remember to..." just to see if there's a difference.
-
Inappropriate?Should be no difference at all.
-
Inappropriate? No go. I got the SMS from Jott. I got the emails from Jott, 1 for the Jott Request and 1 for the Jott Response. The entry shows in my Jott Sent folder and it reflects that it was sent "To Sandy". However, nothing in my Sandy site. I emailed some reminders to Sandy, and they all worked fine.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Well, let me be the first one to say that, obviously, I'm an idiot. I had the same url, http://iwantsandy.com/settings/jott, in both the Settings and the Link URLs in the Jott setup. As just about anyone else will immediately know, it needs to be set to http://iwantsandy.com/messages/jott in the Link URL in the Jott setup. Sorry for sending you (Rael, Sandy and anyone else) on a wild goose chase. After noticing my error, and fixing it, all works as expected.
I’m happy and a little ashamed.
-
Inappropriate?Aw, man! I feel terrible that you had to go through all that only to find it was a mistype.
We're working with Jott to make sure Sandy has her very own Jott Link without any of this rigmarole -- just 2 clicks and you're done.
I'll post an update as soon as it is off to the races. In the meantime, please do give it a whirl using the manual setup you'll find at http://iwantsandy.com/settings/jott.
Rael
I’m on it
-
Inappropriate?Howdy, folks.
It is enormously gratifying to see just how pleased many of you are about being to just call Sandy up and Jott [http://jott.com/] a reminder or to-do off to Sandy.
Now, thanks to Sandy showing up as her very own Sandy Jott Link on Jott's official list of links [http://jott.com/jott-links/], it's just that much easier.
To start jotting to Sandy, visit http://iwantsandy.com/settings/jott.
After that, you can call up 1-866-JOTT-123 from your mobile phone; when asked "Who do you want to Jott" say "Sandy" and let Sandy know what to remember for you or remind you about.
You'll find some more detail on Sandy's Jott help page at http://iwantsandy.com/help/jott
Enjoy!

I’m goin' vocal

Inappropriate? When I set it up as an automatic link at Jott, Jott requires me to say 'I Want Sandy' as opposed to just 'Sandy'. I suppose theres less chance of mix ups that way.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Jim,
That's very odd. I just did the same thing and they filled in Sandy for me.
Did you remove the original hand-made Jott link you created for Sandy first (if you had one, that is)?
Rael -
Inappropriate?I didn't know it was possible to use the two together till I saw Sandy on the Jott links page. I'll try again tomorrow but when I have tried it before and I say Sandy it says it can't understand me but does understand I Want Sandy.
BTW 'I Want Sandy' is dead on with Jott, it's great, I just need an ical calendar that can authenticate and has flexible alerts for a given calendar. Google fits that bill but you two don't play well together yet and the only calendar I found that will authenticate is Sunbird/Lightning but no alerts there except pop ups. -
Inappropriate? My Jott account seemed to be corrupted or whatever so I set up a new one (doesn't seem to be a way to delete the old account) and after setting up the new one and linking to Sandy it accepted 'Sandy' .
-
Inappropriate?seems nice but their registration form is currently broken. Time to want satisfaction somewhere else, I think...
-
Inappropriate?Love the prospect of this for organizing my to do lists, but did I see Sandy say they still haven't perfected her being able to understand tags? Bummer! That's a key factor as to whether I can use this or not
-
Inappropriate?Should Clarify: I meant when using in conjunction with Jott.
-
Inappropriate?I've had trouble getting it to recognize @ -- like "@todo". Just saying "at" hasn't worked for me.
-
Inappropriate?PBinHtown,
Just say "tag as todo" when you jott to sandy.

Inappropriate?THIS IS THE COOLEST THING EVER! I hope you guys don't end up charging too much for this, what is your business plan?
I’m excited
