Inappropriate?Hi,
From what I've heard, the "O2 UK" in our list is really "O2 M-mail." If you have M-mail, send an SMS saying "ON" to phone number 212, then have Sandy resend your confirmation message (http://iwantsandy.com/settings/mobile).
If you don't have M-mail, go to http://www.o2.co.uk and enable email-to-text. Then in Sandy's mobile settings, choose "Other" from the list of carriers and enter username@o2.co.uk in the phone number box.
If you need account-specific assistance, please email help@iwantsandy.com using the same address you're using with Sandy, and we'll gladly help you out.
Hope this helps!
Marshall

Inappropriate?Glad to hear it! Thanks for confirming that it works. :)

Inappropriate?Hi!
I managed to activate 02 mmail, but I'm still not getting any confirmation codes through... I tried using both the mobile number and the email address in the phone number box, and also changing "02" to "other". Nothing happening...
What can be the matter? Which combination is most likely to succeed?
I’m puzzled
-
Inappropriate?I have my iwantsandy settings set to Phone number: +44734nnnnnnn, O2 UK in the drop down.
As suggested by Marshall I then sent an SMS message saying ON to 212 and got an reply from O2 to say that my mobile email was now on.
It works fine (or at least it did yesterday!). Are you using the international dial number ie +44 and then miss off the first 0 of your phone number? -
Inappropriate?Thank you for the advice!! - I set it up like you suggested and it still isn't working. Now I think the problem lies with 02 rather than Sandy since I am not managing to send any sort of email to my phone (even though I got their activation confirmation SMS, and they don't bounce off, either).
I'll wait a couple of days in case it settles miraculously and then try their customer service...
I’m quite calmly expecting more difficulties
-
Inappropriate?StViv, I have just tested the setup with O2 again and I can confirm that it appears to be working perfectly well this evening. Can you send a normal email to your phone's email address (which will be +447734nnnnnn@mmail.co.uk)? When you set up mmail it should have sent you a text giving you your phone's email address like the one above.
-
Inappropriate?Nope - I got the confirmation with the phone's email address (+44781xxxxxxx@mmail.co.uk), but it's not receiving any mail sent to that address...

Inappropriate?Hi folks,
Forgive the cross-posting (http://getsatisfaction.com/iwantsandy...), but I wanted to be sure to provide this info to Sandy's (particularly UK) clients having trouble receiving SMS/text reminders:
---
I'm sorry I couldn't reply any earlier, but I wanted to drop in at least and see if we can't at least find a clever workaround for you two (and other UK-dwellers having trouble receiving Sandy's SMS reminders).
We'll be delving back in and seeing what we can figure out on Monday (you're catching us mid-Thanksgiving here). But in the meantime, I'd like to suggest that you use Sandy's ability to send out reminders via Twitter [http://twitter.com]. It's really easy to set up, a Twitter account is free, and I know they have rather reliable UK delivery. If you're up for giving this a whirl...
1. Go to http://iwantsandy.com/settings/twitter and follow the instructions for turning on Twitter reminders.
2. Go to http://iwantsandy.com/settings/mobile and turn off mobile reminders.
3. Add your mobile phone as a Twitter device at http://twitter.com/devices.
4. Make sure you are not only following Sandy (user name "s" on Twitter at http://twitter.com/s), but also have "Notifications" (click the "Following" grey box under Sandy's picture on that page) _On_ so that "You will receive s's updates via SMS"
Act now and your Sandy+Twitter reminders package will include free instant messenger reminders (just add your IM details as another Twitter device at http://twitter.com/devices).
Again, we'll continue striving to get SMS reminders from Sandy to whomever we can by our own means, but this should work rather nicely for you if you're having trouble receiving any SMS messages from Sandy.
Happy Thanksgiving -- and a Happy Thursday/Friday to our non-US friends ;-)

This was 6 months ago and despite following all of the suggestions here, I can not get Sandy working with O2 UK via text message. -
Inappropriate? Thanks, that should work... I'll check up on their their privacy regulations and safety and give it a go if I can't get O2 to work next week. - Thanks for the continuous work, this is a brilliant service!
I’m optimistic
-
Inappropriate?Sandy developers,
would you consider getting an account with an SMS gateway that works well in the UK? TM4B might be your answer: I've used them for years quite reliably, and the API is very simple to implement.
Regards,
J.
I’m sticking my oar in.

Inappropriate?I have been using Twitter OK in UK then found this thread and activated o2 mmail OK - you have to enter your mobile number as international number i.e.
07712341234 becomes +447712341234
and choose o2 in drop down (not "other")
Now not sure which is best as Sandy version comes as 2 SMS because email header takes up so many characters and you have to reply to first SMS to get second half! Twitter just sends reminder text.
After all that worying I may just stick with twitter!! -
Inappropriate? It seems the O2 email-to-SMS service is now only available if you subscribe to O2 broadband - can anyone else confirm this? I'll try out the twitter link to see if that works instead
I’m fed up with O2
-
Inappropriate?@ Thomas Nichols, no you don't need to be signed up to O2 Broadband - you just need to have an O2 mobile and, I think, sign up to My O2 (this might not be strictly necessary but it doesn't hurt). As per Marshall's post right at the top, you then sms 'ON' to 212, and you should get a confirmation message from O2 that Mmail's been switched on. Once received, check that your mobile number is entered correctly into your settings at iwantsandy (+44, miss out the initial 0 then key in the rest of your number with no spaces), and request the confirmation message from Sandy again. When I followed these steps, I got the code from Sandy quite quickly and it all works perfectly now. Twitter does work too, but I actually use both - it's nice to have the option! ;-)

Inappropriate?I have an iPhone so MMS isn't possible, I tried going with the alternative... went to www.o2.co.uk to switch on email-to-text as suggested. I couldn't find anywhere to switch that on. So I just rang O2's iPhone Customer Service... the woman there had never heard of "email-to-text." She spent 5 minutes asking her advisors -- with me on hold -- and came back to tell me that it couldn't be done. "We don't offer that service." *sigh*
I've also tried the +44 and O2 UK thing. Still nothing. -
Inappropriate?I was looking around for the email to text option. o2 don't have the most organized of sites. I found it by logging into their webmail. Looks like they charge for each sms sent! Makes it unusable to be notified of emails.
@conrad. It's possible to receive MMS messages. o2 of a webpage which you visit on the iPhone. You have to activate the service which doesnt take long. I think I read somewhere that o2 are working on an email to mms service - not sure on that. -
Inappropriate?Bringing this thread back to life, can anyone confirm if the m-mail service charges to receive sms from the likes of Sandy? If so, what a load of rubbish! and now that Twitter doesnt do SMS in the UK anymore, going to have to rely on syncing with Google Calendar, which has no problems sending me text messages.
I’m wishing I didn't like in the UK
-
It's a bit of a workaround, but I've signed up to twitsms.co.uk for a pretty small per message charge, I've fixed both the Twitter and Sandy SMS problems in one hit. Certainly easier than Google Calender sync. -
Dunno about receiving but I was a bit miffed to find the 10p per text charge whacked onto my bill last 2 months - weird cos I am sure I was using previously and not getting charged :-(
Like you say UK gets bum deal :-( -
Inappropriate?I just tried to sign up with twitsms.co.uk and it kept saying my username/password was invalid. Tried several times. Logged into Twitter.com as a sanity check and username/password is fine. No idea what's up with that.
EDIT: scrap that. I signed up okay. I was entering my Twitter username/password on the front page instead of using the signup link. At least I got my daily blonde moment out the way.
I’m sad
