Sandy and Twitter seem to be having a very flicted relationship right now.
I've tried to get Twitter and Sandy to play nice together, but it's just not happening. I went through the guide to making this happen, almost no success.
I can get Sandy to follow me and me to follow her. I got the confirmation Tweet very quickly. I get the test Tweets almost instantly. But that is where things end.
I've tried copy and paste-ing the examples. All I'm seeing is that my message was sent when I use Pidgin from my GTalk account. But when I send the same message from the Twitter website I am told that the user doesn't exist.
Um, what? I don't think I can follow someone who doesn't exist.
There are no replies and no direct messages from Sandy on the Twitter site.
I really don't know what else to tell you so that I can have this working right, but I'll be happy to answer any questions that could help lead to the solution.

Hi DMee,
Today's email issue seems to have kept Sandy (and me) occupied enough that she didn't get to her tweets. She's catching up now and should be back to her snappy self in just a few minutes.
I'm truly sorry Sandy's not been at her best today; we're working hard behind the scenes to make sure that she's able to both handle her workload and let us know when she needs some additional help.

Hi folks!
Yesterday's intermittent Twitter issues seem to have confused Sandy no end. I just checked again in response to your mentions of her still not responding and found that she had indeed given up at some point yesterday and for some reason had not resumed when the Twitter issues were resolved.
Sandy's chewing through all those direct messages now — despite some of them being a little older than we'd like (we certainly don't want you to have simply lost those thoughts, reminders, appointments, etc based on some arbitrary cut-off). This does mean that relative reminders you requested (ex. "remind me in 15 minutes..." or "remind me at 5pm today..." may be off by the period of time that has passed since you first sent them — please do take a quick gander at what Sandy's most recently received from you at http://iwantsandy.com/list .
I'm terribly sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you!
We've put some checks in place so that this doesn't happen again — or at least is far more obvious when it does so that we can help Sandy out in a more timely manner.

Howdy folks!
Twitter has been experiencing some issues today. As soon as all's returned to normal, Sandy should be twittering like nobody's business.

Inappropriate?I have the exact same problem. I get the confirmation and test tweets fine, but Sandy never responds to my direct twitter messages. "d s hi" or "d s remember curtis loves cheese" don't evoke any response or change what Sandy knows through the web interface. It's like she's ignoring me. It hurts.
I’m frustrated
-
Hi RJ. I assure you Sandy was in no way ignoring you. Mea culpa, not Sandy culpa. -
Inappropriate? If I add events through the web interface Sandy will notify my on Twitter - she just doesn't seem to be listening to my tweets correctly. I've tried with both the twitter web interface and twitterific and the results are the same - she's silent as a rock.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Hi,
We are seeing ups and downs from Twitter's API today. Sandy is retrying as often as she can but the other end of the pipe keeps timing out, breaking the connection, or returning badly-formed errors.
Hold tight -- this happens every so often when Twitter gets a bit overloaded. I will be looking into this continuously and be back with an update shortly.

Inappropriate? Thanks. I'm glad to see that it's not something on my end, although that would be easier to fix I guess.
I’m looking forward to Twitter working right and a cheeseburger.
-
If it were only true that fixing things on your end would fix it for everyone else too ;-) Dare to dream! -
RJ: All should be set now (see my posting at the top of this topic thread for details). -

Inappropriate?d s hi still gets me nothing back from Sandy. Are you sure this is just a twitter problem? The rest of my twitter seems to be working normally, but I'm sure sandy's account is more active by several orders of magnitude.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I still don't see it working, but there's only so much y'all can do if the problem isn't on your end. I'll come back and make a note when things are going like they're supposed to for me.
-
Some of the culpa was definitely on our end of things. I'm sorry for what must have been a frustrating experience. If there's one thing we do make sure of here: when something goes awry we make sure it doesn't happen again. -
Inappropriate? Can we please just get her some more reliable way of being messaged that isn't email? IM?
-
Inappropriate?I really don't think Twitter is the problem. I've had several friends who use Sandy test it and she's responding to their tweets just fine, but she keeps ignoring mine. What's the deal?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Alright, I went and checked and Twitter isn't showing the Tweets that I send through GTalk. Any idea what's going on?
-
Inappropriate?Another check, this time I wanted to see if I put something directly into Sandy if it would remind me via Twitter.
That worked (and with a deadline of 5 minutes in the future too which I'm happy about). So Sandy knows that my Twitter self exists and can send me stuff. -
Inappropriate?Yes, that one has always worked for me. I just can't tweet to her. d s hi does nothing. d r get milk does nothing.
I’m frustrated
-
Hi again, RJ. Yes, Sandy was indeed twittering (outgoing) as expected. It was her incoming direct message queue that had become confused and stuck. I very much appreciate all of your reports and am pleased to report that Sandy's back in the Twitterverse. -

Inappropriate?A little more follow-up...
Some of the direct messages Sandy just plowed through were actually from a couple of days ago when Twitter had its initial bout of trouble and either became stuck in Sandy's direct message inbox at that time or at some point later when things at Twitter were spun back up again.
Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience and late responses from Sandy and assure you we'll do everything we can to prevent this from happening in the future.
Rael

Inappropriate?Pulling everything in now was just weird. I had a reminder to go for a walk at 4:30 this morning.
But it works, and that's the point. -
Hi Waffles! Again, I'm sorry for any inconvenience this caused: we just thought it best to err on the side of a redundant (or mistimed) reminder than have Sandy simply drop anything received before an arbitrary time horizon. —Rael -
I wasn't awake that early. And I'm cool with it, but that doesn't make it any less weird. It might just be that I know there's no way in Hell I'd be anywhere but asleep at 4:30 in the morning without impending death hanging over me or someone I care about. -
Inappropriate?Rael, thanks so much for digging into the problem again and getting it resolved! I think your solution was the right one, and I was pleasantly surprised to see a bout of direct messages from Sandy this morning. Now we'll just all pray that Twitter stays up. :)
I’m thankful
