Support for additional "Input" methods for Sandy
Given the recent turbulence in web2.0 apps, Trying to compile a list of other web services that would work well for input'ing information to sandy, for Rael's consideration:
Currently:
* identi.ca - Twitter replacement with working IM support, based on Open-Source technology Laconica that might make integration easier
* dial2do - Voice Transcription Service
* reQall - Voice Transcription Service
* Google Calendar - Sync to schedule appointments
* 30 Boxes - Sync to schedule appointments

Inappropriate? There's also Jaiku, like Twitter, owned by Google.
-
Inappropriate?I'd really like Sandy to interface with identi.ca ... Twitter is next to useless.
I’m simultaneously hopeful and doubtful
-
Inappropriate?Anything that is efficient, easy to use and allows us banished ex-Twitterers in the UK to get reminders on our mobiles again is a go with me!
I’m hopeful?
-
Inappropriate?Ah, yes. Would love to have identi.ca integration!
-
Inappropriate?Just straight IM please.

Inappropriate?I like the idea of Identi.ca, since I'm having fits trying to work with Twitter and Twitterfeed. Of course, if reQall was working, there would be no problems.
I’m optimistic

Inappropriate?Dial2Do, out of the box, works almost perfectly with Sandy already. I switched to it after Jott went out of beta. The only thing that doesn't work is tagging (like saying "tag with ....", the way we used to do with Jott). Because the messages are sent to Sandy just the same way an e-mail would, Sandy would have to be trained to look for "tag with" commands from any e-mail, not just from Jott. If she did this, then she could conceivably work with any voice-to-email transcription service.

@Quasihellfish: thanks for the great trip about Dial2Do; I'm looking for something that works from the UK and this looks like it might be just the ticket. I'm probably being completely dense, but can you talk me through how you get Dial2Do to work with Sandy? Since emails through Dial2Do come from their 'donotreply' address, I'd have thought Sandy wouldn't recognise them... Any help much appreciated! ;-) -
Are you using their new "make your own command" feature? I just logged onto their site for the first time in a while, and tried it out because it would be a lot cleaner if it worked this way. But you're right, e-mails com from the 'donotreply' address, so it doesn't work. The way I got it to work was to create a new contact, and use your private sandy address. This way, the e-mails come from the e-mail address you used to signup with Dial2Do. The only annoyance is that it's a multi step process to say "email", then "sandy", then wait for the address to be read back to you, then say your message. But it does work this way. If the custom command worked, it would be perfect. I'll be submitting a suggestion via their site. -
Hey, I got an answer back from their support! They say that this fix is in the works, and will be rolled out in the next week or two. Then, we should be able to create custom commands, the e-mails will come from our own address, and it will work exactly like Jott used to. -
Inappropriate?Another "me too" for identi.ca support. They now have "private messages" (the equivalent of direct messages I think) so a perfect drop in replacement for twitter I think.

Inappropriate?FYI, dial2do now works with Sandy. I posted a new topic here:
