OFFICIAL Stuttering In Game
Hi, for some reason every song i play has real bad stuttering all throughout the song. I have a reasonable pc, 1.5gb ram, geforce 7300 and a 3.0ghz cpu. Im also running vista. Is there any obvious reason why this is happening?
Thanks

Hi Everyone,
Just a friendly reminder that you can find out about what users call "stuttering" or "lag" in the game by reading the JamLegend blog post here: http://blog.jamlegend.com/did-i-stutter
For Firefox users, there is a little hack you can use to help minimize this problem: http://blog.jamlegend.com/firefox-use...
Thanks!
I’m happy to help.

We're definitely aware of this problem and wrote a blog post about the solution here: http://blog.jamlegend.com/did-i-stutter
We've tried a couple different solutions, but we're definitely open to hearing more from what people have done (like what SmellOnTour described).

Inappropriate?Hmmm... good question. Unfortunately, your graphics card really isn't coming into play since flash doesn't have hardware accelerated graphics (and won't until Flash 10 comes out). Were you using IE 7 or a different browser?
Oddly enough, we've found that Flash for IE is ridiculously more well optimized than in any other browser. In that respect, it's the one place that IE is superior.
If you're using Firefox, we've noticed that Firefox's \"feature\" of using up all your memory can seriously hamper gameplay if you haven't restarted Firefox in a while.
If it keeps happening, can you take a look at your CPU usage while playing and let us know where it's at? I.e. I'm wondering if it's CPU constrained (doubtful unless you were doing a bunch of other stuff), or whether your machine was paging to disk for some other processes, or something else. -
Disagreed...Flash for IE is ridiculously slow in my opinion.
I've looked at the differences between IE, Firefox and Safari and discovered IE was the slowest, Firefox more optimized and Safari the fastest, I don't get a choppy gameplay anymore with Safari... -
Inappropriate?I tired in IE7, FIREFOX 3, OPERA, and CHROME. All cause the same problem, stuttering with no releif throughout the whole song. I cant fathom whats causing it, i really didnt think it would be very system intensive!
I have played after a full system reboot, and same problems. I also have played when only the browser is open. Same problem!
I will check my CPU usage whilst playing and let you know. -

My CPU Usage whilst playing is well within normal limits (approx 45 percent) and my RAM usage is at approximately 50 percent usage.
Sorry if this message appears twice, it didnt look like my first one sent! -
Inappropriate?I too am having this issue. It actually crashes Firefox and IE just stutters to an unplayable level. 2.4 GHz Quad Core Processor, 4 gigs RAM, Nvidia 260 1 GB RAM card, so not the system, just made sure flash was up to latest version, unaware of what could be causing the issue.

Inappropriate?hey guys, here's a question that will really help: when it's \"stuttering\" does it appear to jump down the page, or up the page? i.e. does it appear the notes are going too slow and have to jump down to catch up with the song? Or that the notes are moving too fast, and jump back up the page so as not to get ahead of the song?
-
Inappropriate? Also, iamsensay, Getsatisfaction's Help Center does a significant amount of caching, so your responses won't show up right away, ergo you not seeing the first one you sent : )
-
Inappropriate?for me depending on which pc i'm on , once the note reaches the end of the fretboard, but isent at the keys, it bounces back a little.
-
Inappropriate?alright Maze, I got something to try here: when you're playing a song, press the f key. it'll make some text show up on the right side under your points that will show the current and average fps. Take a look at that and let me know more many fps you're getting.
-
Inappropriate?for me, the stuttering is coming down the fretboard and is juddering all the way from the time i see the note til the time it reaches the bottom, it seems the juddering gets wors the closer to the bottom of the fretboard it gets and when there are more notes on screen. I checked my fps and it was averaging at 88 all the way throughout.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Ryan,
I turned on the FPS as suggested. I was getting 80's for most of the song. Throughout the song there was stuttering. Obviously Chrome uses the same core as Safari, I tried it with IE7 and FF 3.0
Interesting thing is that my Dell Vostro 2.0 GHz plays it better than my HP Laptop which is 2.4 GHz duo core. Difference being the HP is Intel and the Dell is AMD.
I'm wondering if there is a correlation between this. Anyhow, with Flash, performance has always been about the CPU which makes it hard to target. However, now that most machines are higher speeds it shouldn't matter as much.
Good luck on troubleshooting.
-Joe
I’m happy.
-
Inappropriate?I'm still experiencing the same problems as the others above - most closely related to iamsensay's "juddering." Quad core Intel, nVidia graphics, not sure what the problem is. 64 fps throughout.
-
Inappropriate?Try the flash 10 beta it helped me a bit.

Inappropriate?Any update on whats happening with this then? Or if any attempts are being made to make it smoother? I wont play like this becaue my ranking just goes down so much as i do so badly, i am a good player understand how frustrating it is to be made to look like a noob because a FLASH game lags. I love this game, the site and the whole idea but all that is useless to me if i cant even play the game!
Id appreciate an update as to what is happening in regards to this problem, if anything.
Many Thanks
P.S I tried flash 10 and i got mildly better performance. Not to the point of playable, but better.
-
Inappropriate?I got this problem too, tried with chrome, ff, ie. I could try opera and safari too.
fps is 60-80 in chrome, which i use the most.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+ 2.6 GHz, operating system Vista 32
2 GB memory
3D card: Radeon X1700 FSC
It looks like that the notes stop and then they jump down. I've tried flash 10 beta and didn't see a difference.
At the first when i got to Jam Legend it seemed to work better. 1 opinion (not mine) was that if Jam Legend cant handle the stress when there's more people joining or its slow when people have slow internet, but i don't think so because i checked how much chrome downloads/uploads information during song and its nothing.
I’m :/
-
Inappropriate?Anyone tried setting the priority of the browser you're using to high in task manager or does that not work either. And if your using vista try setting the browser to xp compatibility mode.
-
Inappropriate?I get this problem a lot.
Here is my spec, hope this helps sort the issue.
Windows Vista Ultimate x64 - Service Pack 1

Memory: 2GB
Soundcard: SB X-Fi Audio [8000]
Browser: Firefox v3.0.1

-
Inappropriate?I have the juddering that iamsensay describes too. Especially when I get any of the text progress messages or the crowd cheers.
-
Inappropriate?ARRRGGG......
I just loose 1300 rationg point because of this, by miserably loosing an extremly easy song.... cause fo LAG. :((((
I’m sad.
-
And the best is that while I loose 1300 point on an easy song, I do not get more than 100 point for a medium one, oeven if it is close to be perfect.I am simply unable to get back the lost rating points other way than doing 13 medium song......... Something is really wrong with this pointing system. -
Lol but it's 13x harder to lose that song then it is to win it. Cause you must have a reasonable rating and you're in the top 1/14 of the JL I guess. Or something similar. It's a fine rating system imo. -
Inappropriate?For me it looks like:
- All the time I play a song, the first notes that arrive are resonating back and forward for s ec.
- Randomly some notes are stopping for sime millisec and then teleporting forward, many times simply "phasing through" the area where I could hit them, making the impossible to catch.
- Crowd cheers and text messages increase the likelyhood of lagging, and sometimes they cause longer and stronger lag then the random happening lag.
- Strength and likelyhood of lagging changes randomly from day to day. Sometimes there is no noticable lag, other times it makes IMPOSSIBLE to play at all.
- Lag sometimes accompanies by another error: Some notes are going through the hitting are WITHOUT being hit, even if I press the button, it looks like if I were not press Enter, though I did (No error in keyboard).
I’m sad.
-
Inappropriate?
I'm on a MBP Intel-based, and tried using the Flash 10 beta to no avail. I really like the idea of the site, but the constant lagging (I don't seem to be able to make it through any song w/o at least one incident of a stutter occurring) leaves something to be desired.
I’m frustrated
-
Why is there a dog? -
that's my dog, daisy. she's very upset that i can't play JL w/o having the game stutter :) -
Inappropriate?Try using the opera browser it helped me a little bit.
-
Inappropriate?I've had this problem on both my PC and Mac.
It'll be jerky, then smooth, then jerky, then smooth.
I've checked the FPS and that's fine running in the 50's.
Windows System
AMD Athlon X2 4400+
2GB RAM
ATI Radeon X1800XT
Windows Vista SP1
Flash Player 10
Internet Explorer 7 / Opera 10 / Safari / Firefox
Mac System
iMac 24" 3.06Ghz
2GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 8800GS
MacOS X 10.5.5
Flash Player 10
Safari / Opera 10
I would imagine that instead of a problem with anybody's system (aside from old machines) it's most likely a Flash problem.
I've witnessed Flash websites running with what are supposed to be fast animations (or complex animations) only to see them stutter and slow simply because either the player isn't built to accomodate such animations, or the website hasn't been optimised properly.
Flash 10 making use of the GPU doesn't seem to have made any difference for me as I had the exact same problems with JamLegend on Flash Player 9.
Occasionally a track will run pretty much smooth all the way through but it's more 80% stutter, 20% smooth.
Also, I've tried playing both after a fresh restart, and thus nothing running aside from the system services, as well as just generally popping to the site for a quick game whilst working etc.
Edit: After just "playing" again (I quit about a quarter of the way through because I apparently kept missing notes even though I was in time) it appears as though the only way I am able to do vaigly well is to strum slightly before I'm meant to.
Also, performance is the worst i've seen it so far, with it stuttering constantly.
Seriously, performance and optimisation should be your number one priority because without those two things being 100%, JamLegend will clearly never leave BETA.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Yeah the notes actually go up and then down really fast, sometimes even at the start of the song it's hard to hit them...

I have a good internet connection as well.
-
Inappropriate?I've the same problem in Firefox, in iex7 it run's perfect :) Firefox stucks every some overlay appears... Like ICQ, when someone comes online..
-
Inappropriate?Ok, about the duo-core problem, try going into Task Manager, going to your browser, right clicking it, and setting "Affinity". Untick one of the boxes and see what happens. Otherwise, do the same thing, but set the priority to "Above Normal"

Inappropriate?CPU Performance Problem => Missing strokes
I am having slight performance problems, which result in the effect that once in a while the game is visually stuttering, which makes me miss notes either because I did not see them (early enough) or because the thingie does not recognize I pressed them early enough, even on very simple passages. This is a fairly powerful PC for development purposes, but it has a constant CPU load of about 25-50% with peaks > 75% during a song.

Inappropriate?I noticed that the game stutters when there are fading colors effects in the background while playing. It also happens when the game show informations like the number of notes streak or the fact that the bot takes the lead. It could be nice if it was possible to disable these. I use firefox and have a decent computer,2BG ram, core 2 duo. The problem is the same on IE

Inappropriate? The game runs smooth at the PCs we have at school, but at mye computer at home (which is slightly more powerful) the tracks go too fast and then jump sometimes during the song so i do not hit the notes. Inappropriate? When I go to start a song, the countdown counts down, and then when the first note(s) get half-way down the screen, they hang there, and bounce up and down, then the song doesn't progress any further. However, it does work on another machine. Maybe a flash issue? what versions of flash need to be installed?
This happens in FF3 and IE6. I'd try Chrome, but that won't install due to Symantec Endpoint Protection causing an error.

Inappropriate?I dont know if its my computer problem or JamLegend's but whenever I play songs, it sometimes jumps or pauses for awhile(0.5 milisec) and continues again.. So i cant really play my songs perfectly.. So i need some opinions or solutions.. Thanks^^

Jumping Problem... -
Inappropriate?Hm i guess to each is his/her own. For me flash with firefox tends to lower the *stutter*. Im assuming by stutter you mean lag. If thats the case you can never get rid of lag it will always be there no matter what in some way sometime. It can be reduced greatly but occasionally you will still get that little *stutter*.

Inappropriate?*Sorry if this question already been brought up.*
Why it's quite lag when I play a song although the song already finishly load?
I mean I use to play GH3 before and JL is not as smooth as GH3 when I play. Then, sometimes it's really lag until it pause for a second then the note already passed out (Hope you know what i mean). This problem mostly when i tried to play a long song like Canon Rock.
I dunno either other JL players have this problem. If not, then mostly bcoz of my mobo or something.
