Why is my Zivio so difficult to pair with my iPhone, and only works 2/3 of the time.

My Zivio has a lot of trouble connecting to my iPhone. I have to press the Joby button several times before it actually pairs and 1 out of 3 times it pairs, but no audio comes out of the Zivio and the person on the line can't hear me, and the audio does not work on the phone when paired with the Zivio, yet not audio or mic from Zivio. Also when I fully extend my boom mic the mic stops working. The mic only works when it's about 80% extended and when completely retracted. The design is wonderful - it's small, light, attractive, and comfortable, but it's only about 60% reliable and can take several minutes of tinkering with before it works. I am very technology literate and I've owned hundreds of electronic products - so if it's difficult for me to get to work with my phone it must be really really difficult for light users of technology. Please help! send me a replacement or I'll need to return the product (which would suck because I really like the headset).
