Inappropriate?Compiz usually conflicts with the Netbook Remix version of Ubuntu, which JC seems to be built on. Normally, you have to disable it to get UNR working properly. It makes sense then that it's not included in the JC installation.

Inappropriate?I disabled the netbook interface, installed compiz, enabled visual effects in the appearance menu. Works awesome.

This sounds good, but how ?
How do you dissable the Netbook interface ?
How do you install Compiz ?
I'm new to the whole Lixux thang

What is the point of using Jolicloud and disabling the interface? You might as well just be using Ubuntu -
Inappropriate?@ Wayne - To disable the netbook launcher, go to System > Preferences > Startup Applications and un-check "Netbook Launcher". To enable compiz effects, System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects. You may also want to add some menu applets to your panel up at the top to enable you to easily access the main menu, or you can just hit ALT+F1 to bring it up.
@John - Based on your argument, why use JC at all? why not just install ubuntu NBR?Jc is more than just the netbook launcher - I enjoy the dashboard plus the various tweaks under the hood that make my system run better than previous ubuntu/eeebuntu installs i've tried.
I’m amused

Inappropriate?Isn't there a way to install Compiz via Terminal?
I’m kind of disappointed, but meh. I can live with it.

Inappropriate?I'm using Compiz with the UNR launcher with no issues. In fact, it was Metacity that I had issues with, which Compiz actually resolved. I'm using an updated version from the Compiz PPA, so this may resolve your issues, as well.

What were the steps you used...I find the JC-UNR Launcher continues to popup up over my screen whenever I rotate the Compiz Cube...I get around this by tapping the down arrow (+alt/ctrl) after every cube spin but its annoying. I really like the Launcher but it just wants to be on alll of my virtual desktops at once. It would be great if the launch had a setting like - Behave like a normal app..stick to my own desktop...or something similar
(White ASUS 701 with USB internal Motherboard mods and 2GB DDR2 RAM upgrade) -
Inappropriate?Ah yeah, I haven't gotten around that. What I did was use two virtual desktops, one with the launcher, and one with a fullscreen virtual machine with Windows 7 on it. I can rotate out of Windows by tapping the host key just before the cube rotate combination.

Inappropriate?Compiz moves are reminding me of my old Capcom Street fighter combos or piano scales...on a small netbook keyboard there's an art and an elegance to it...:)
I'm thinking of writing a script that kills and restarts JC-UNR Launcher depending on what desktop I am on...I am also looking for some setting files for the JC-UNR incase there is a way to get it to work.
If I work it out I'll post back here.
So your using Wine that comes with Jolicloud for the emulation? or something else.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?I changed the comand in startup items to:
netbook-launcher -w -d 800 -h 400
(that res is for my Asus 701)
This gets me a little closer..but you need to launch items and drag them to a different desktop..then they work uninterupted by the launcher....
The launcher still doesnt refesh the screen properly for itself but atleast other apps are not impacted using this windowed mode.

To answer the original request here:
On your Jolicloud build
Use terminal : Type sudo synaptic
Search synaptic for compiz..select compiz and then apply...
This will download and install compix modules -yay!
This will result in being able to select compiz in the appearance panel.
However on my ASUS the screens were difficult to manage because cpmpiz configuration screens were bigger than my resolution...so whilst compiz was running I used this nice command to allow windows to exist off visible edge.
gconftool-2 --set /apps/compiz/plugins/move/allscreens/options/constrain_y --type bool 0
This then allowed me to muck around with the compiz settings to get what I needed. - The first being to declare 4 desktops in the Compiz cube.
--hope this helps
I’m happier

Inappropriate?but in thre future they are remove thr UNR launcher for their html 5 one. so is it the launcher thats the issue becuase if thats the case then we may not have this problem for too long
I’m wondering...
-
Inappropriate? The HTML5 launcher will replace the My Jolicloud page, at least that's what I've heard. The new UI is still a mystery as of now.
