Inappropriate?we are looking how we can address this specific model

Inappropriate? Thanks Tariq... I will wait for a solution. Thanks
-
Inappropriate?any progress on this?
Thanks. -
Inappropriate?I got it to install and run by manually setting the partitions giving / 1825MB and leaving 65MB for a swap. After that it works until you try to run any updates.
I’m almost there.

Inappropriate?thanks AdamsJourney lets see when Tariq and his team can give us a solution

Inappropriate?I don't know if this is a perfect solution, but it works for me. I recently bought a 4 GB SDHC card from pc world for about £20 and put it in the eee 2gb surf then I installed Jolicloud using the manual partition settings. I put the / mounted on the SSD using all the available space and put the /usr mounted on about 3.5gb of the SDHC card with a 460mb swap file. My 2gb surf is now working even after installing updates and there is no noticeable slowness when running apps. If you need any more details about this let me know.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I tried something similar to what Andy used; I put / on the SSD (though I allowed about 128 MB in a swap partition), /usr on a partition on the SD card, and /home on another partition on the SD card. I do run into some journaling issues related to /home, but I believe that is unrelated.
I like Andy Gold's solution of just using / on the SSD and /usr on the SD card - will be trying that tonight when I get home. Seems like an ideal and rather straightforward workaround. Not a perfect solution, but better than not being able to run JoliCloud!
I’m encouraged by this

Inappropriate? Finally had a chance to test out the above: do a custom partitioning setup with / on the 2 GB SSD (128 MB for swap), and /usr on an SD card. For the latter, 2 GB would probably be the minimum, 4 or 8 would give you lots of room to install more apps.
JoliCloud then installed without a hitch on the EeePC 2G Surf and runs great!

When I make the SSD the partition editor asks what type (ext2, ext3, etc.). What is the right answer for the SSD, the swap file, and the SD card? I have a 16 GB SD card and would like to use the whole thing for extra applications and storage. Any help would be appreciated. -
Inappropriate?Install it on a USB stick (8GB+) or SD card.

SD card is way too slow. -
Inappropriate?Andy Gold might have the best fix here. It just I would like him to be a little specific on how he partition his sdcard for /usr. example what type of file ext2/ext3? and is there any thing i should do about the essid stuff so i don't get any jurnaling system error?
would appreciate any help.....
thank you :)
i love jolicloud
I’m jolicloud

Inappropriate? Is there a limit of how much hard drive space is required to run Jolicloud? nothing seems to be working for me, can't launch apps and updates always fail.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I'm trying to instal on 4g Surf but its not going anywhere after language select screen
I’m confused

Inappropriate?I'd like to repeat the request for an idiot's guide to partitioning sd cards to get jolicloud to run.
I’m unsure
-
in your case , a douche bag guide -
Inappropriate?I installed Jolicloud on a 2G Surf with only a 2G SD card:
1. For the onboard 2G flash, I set a swap of 490MB, and allocated the remaining space to "/" and formatted to Ext4.
2. Formatted* 2GB SD card to Ext4, dedicating all the space to "/usr".
* - If you have problems formatting your SD card (as I did initially), consult this link:

Inappropriate?Disclaimer: I wrote this from memory just after installing Jolicloud. So anything mis-worded my apologies.
Idiots guide to get Andys/Howards results.
Specs:
EEE PC 2g Surf
1 GB USB Thumb Drive W/ Jolicloud
4Gb SD Card
Assumptions:
Jolicloud will be my primary on this machine no other OS installed
Have your SD card already inserted when you boot.
Boot from the 1gb USB Drive (hit escape while the EEE boots it will give the boot menu)
Select to install Jolicloud from the first screen
On the partition manager select "Advanced Partition"
The following screen select your harddrive usually ends with "sdc"
Delete any existing partitions (click the partition then select "Delete Partition" button)
Once all partitions are deleted select the "Freespace"
Click "New partition"
Leave the setting as "Primary"
Set space as 490 and set "Use as" to "swap"
Now select the left over "Freespace"
Click "New Partition"
Set the "Mount Point" as "/"
Set "Use as" to "Ext 4"
Now for the SD Card
Should be labeled in the partition manager as "sdc1"
Delete any partitions
Select the "Freespace"
Click New Partition
Set "Use as" to "Ext 4"
Set "Mount point" to "/usr"
After the install completes be sure to check the bios and verify some of the settings. For instance I had to go back in and set SSD HD as my primary, and the SD Card as my secondary.
Booted just fine.
Odds and Ends
I had issues with the Jolicloud USB so I used Unetbootin to create my bootable thumb
I do not have access to a network at the time of this writing, once home Ill set for use with mine and add to this any issues.
Still only a workaround though to Jordi (and other2g surf owners) problem, additionally its still pre-beta.
I’m confident

Inappropriate? Thanks for this. TBH I think pretty much anything with a 2g Surf is going to be a workaround. Its limitations are pretty unique, particularly the way memory is soldered to motherboard making upgrading almost impossible. I guess I'm paying the price for being tight-fisted and an early adopter.

Inappropriate?NP hope it helps, Im posting from fire fox on my home network WPA2. No issues there. As soon as i connected I hammered the install with apps from the app directory. It seem to slow a bit after I had 7 or so queued up (kind of expected that). Good thing to note here is even after installing 10 or so apps including open office and gimp I still have a 3/4 gb on the ssd and over 3 gb on SD Card.
My asus came way of a generous handme down visually i think it suits my interest and usability better than the other OS I have tried.
Sorry if a bit off topic but hope the info helps. Now depending on the future of beta and official release maybe a fresh install w/ 32 gb SD will be in order.
I’m pretty stoked

Inappropriate? My experience with Jolicloud on my 2G Surf:
All functions work (including hibernate, which tends to trip up many notebooks/netbooks running Linux). Jolicloud is certainly a great upgrade from the stock Xandros distro that comes installed on the 2G Surf.
That said, the 2G Surf is still an underpowered machine, and Jolicloud doesn't make that much of a difference. I found it's best to set the processor to 800MHz, and limit the number of simultaneously running apps to 3 at most (which would include counting the Jolicloud home page).
Between my instructions and PNolan's (which are both similar, except he goes into more details), you can definitely install Jolicloud on this, the most underpowered of netbook models. But you will need an SD card that is at least 2GB. Perhaps the Version 1 release of Jolicloud should require this for the 2G Surf, and automagically configure for installing itself onto a 2G Surf but only if it also includes an SD card installed.
Overall, Jolicloud is a great upgrade to the aging Xandros distro on the 2G Surf. It will help make this netbook seem fresher with slicker features, but don't expect a performance boost (which is unrealistic to expect). Still, the fact that Jolicloud can run decently on this low-end netbook, with all major functionality working (e.g. hibernate, sleep, WiFi), is impressive.
I’m thankful
