Video stalls on playing, audio continues
Several of my viewers have complained that when watching a show the video stalls but the audio continues. I've checked several randomly myself and experienced the same problem but it's not consistent is it related to how I record the video live or is it bandwidth related problems? My show is http://www.kyte.tv/ch/72385-friday-mo...

Inappropriate?Hi Craig, thx for reporting this issue.
I see the same problem, but only on your channel. All other channels are fine. I have some questions:
How did you create these videos? Did you use the webcam? What was the process of producing them? Most of the videos must have been edited and probably are converted? What equipment were you using? What software?
Thx for some more details! -
I am using CamTwist and iSight to produce the videos, I click both the "live" and "record" buttons when I choose to produce a show. No editing or anything is done, everything is done live. I started to record just my audio on the side since many people complaining about getting to Kyte.tv from work and I assumed it was a connection issue but it turns out they meant that the video was not working. -
I've not tested CamTwist yet, but will do. What do you mean with recording 'Audio on the side'? -
Hi Marius, I use Garageband at the same time to record just the audio but this shouldn't effect anything with Kyte. -
Ok. Can you try doing a test-show onto any of your channel without using CamTwist and let me know how this comes out? -
I have tested CamTwist (live and pre-recorded) and it works fine. So CamTwist is for sure not the cause of your problem. However, we are having an update in these hours. Therefore please try it again. Make sure your bandwidth is good during production. -
So I just did a test using iSight and WebKit browser (without Rosetta) and not CamTwist the video hangs around 1min but the audio continues for the total 3 mins. Will test now with FireFox 3.01 -
FF 3.01 and Webkit both give the same problem without CamTwist it hangs after 1 min on a 3 min video, http://www.speedtest.net/result/31813... the link is to a speed test I just ran and that is consistent for me in terms of speeds. Lan connection not wifi. MBP 10.4.11. Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124, -
Hi Craig, thx for all the testing. I've watched both test-shows and it's still acting weird. I've tested camtwist too and there was no such problem. FF3.01 is supported too. Hopefully we can solve this problem soon. Are you using a macbook pro? What OS are you running? What version of a flash player do you have? Is there anything special with your network? -
MacBook Pro OS X 10.4.11. Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124 I've an ADSL the link to the image above shows the speed test I've a 16000kbs and normally see 12 on the download and a 1MB upload where I normally get around 900kbs -
Inappropriate?I have tested CamTwist 1.7 (live and pre-recorded) and it works fine.
So CamTwist is for sure not the cause of your problem.
Note: We are having an update in these hours that can cause general irregularities on kyte.tv.
Therefore please try it again in a few days and let me know how it worked. This update may resolve your issues anyways. Make sure your bandwidth is good enough during production. -
Inappropriate?Hi Craig,
Sometimes the flv file created during a livestream show gets corrupted. This corruption could be from network glitches (even though generally your connection seems robust). In any case, we are working to automate the correction of these corrupted files, but it may be a while before we have a full automated solution in place. We were able to correct your test file just to ensure that we understand the problem. If you do see problems like this in the future, let us know. Thanks.

Hi Donn, thanks for the info. I do my live show every Friday morning so the sooner you get an automated fix in place the better. Feel free to apply it to all my videos, many suffer this problem :-) -
Inappropriate?Hi to you all!
I have same problem when watching videos. Live stream was good no probs but video stops when I watch it later and audio continues. -
Inappropriate?i have this problem on a few kyte videos. video freezes audio continues, im not a user just a viewer.
-
Inappropriate? We have the same problem on the bedroom theories webcast, it seems ok when its live but when you try to watch it back its all glitchy, its got worse as the weeks go on and last weeks has not saved at all so you cant watch it back
-
Inappropriate?Hello Craig,
You had mentioned that you are recording live shows while running garage band. There is a good possibility this is causing the issue as even though you have plenty of bandwidth your CPU may be bogged down with both recording streams. Please test a live stream without running garage band and see what happens. -
The two test shows I did were without Garageband - and I'm running Dual processors I never even come close to peaking either one of them. The last show I did last Friday seems to have been fine although some people could not see it while live and I had to start and restart. -
Inappropriate?Having same problem here. I have over 60 shows now, and I'm noticing on playback, that the video stalls about 2-3 minutes in, audo plays all the way through, no problem. My channel is AlgebraAssistant.com. Email at president@algebraassistant.com. Help, please? I run daily live shows twice a day, and about ready to give up on Kyte, and go with another company. Frustrated big time!
I’m concerned about not being able to offer my people a reliable service option.

Inappropriate?HI AlgebraAssistant,
We are sorry that you have encountered issues using Kyte. We have fixed the latest show on your channel and it will be displayed normally soon.
I am sure you are please to know that we are currently working to fix this problem. We are pretty confident to have a solution in place soon.
A general tip: This problem occurs more often in situations with a 'unstable' network condition. Therefore, please make sure that your network conditions are as good as possible.
Stay tuned,

Marius, thanks for correcting the current video, I appreciate that. I understand you all are working on a solution, thank you for that. What should I do about the "other" videos that have this same problem? Is there something I can do to fix them, or should I let you all know which ones need fixing, and have you work your magic? I do not want to have to re-record them, as they are between 30-60 minutes in length. What should I do about future shows? Should I hold off until you all fix the problem? And do we have any ETA on that? Thanks Mike -
Inappropriate?Hi All,
We want to let you know that only the archived version of the content is affected, it plays fine during the live-broadcast itself. Furthermore, the system will automatically fix all archived shows every 2 days.
As you can imagine, we are not happy with the current solution. We are working on something that should resolve this problem. The current ETA is sometimes in October.
Thank you for understanding. Let us know if you have any further questions.

Inappropriate?Hey Marius,
First of all, thanks for everything you guys are doing. I'm sure we all appreciate the efforts. Now the questions:
I know for certain that MANY of my archived videos are having this problem. How long has the system been fixing archives every 2 days? Because if it's been for awhile, it's not grabbing or fixing mine.
Should I make a list of the specific archives that are broken and post them here?
I'm glad this problem doesn't affect Live Shows. I try to run 2 Live Shows per day. But that would mean 2 new potentially broken archives everyday as well. What can I do to minimize the chance that the Live Shows will post correctly as archives?
I'm building my site as a resource that students will be able to refer to for years to come for help with Algebra. I not only need to make sure the Live Shows run correctly, but that the archives can be used as well. So I want to do everything I can, until a fix is available in October, to make sure my archives work fine, too.
Thanks Marius (Kyte gang, as well),

Please be patient. The videos are actually playing back fine already. You will have to be patient until your flash-cache expires. It's tricky to explain, but if you want, please doublecheck your channel on a different computer.
Thx -
Inappropriate? Thanks Marius. I found out how to clear the Flash Cache, I also cleared out the IE Cache, and I tried again to run one of the vids that is stuck. If you go to my website, http://www.algebraassistant.com/HTMLA..., you'll see this video plays with audio, but the video does not play, it sticks. I'm sure this is among several other, so I'm gonna compile a list. I'll be patient for a couple days to see if in fact something else occurs that clears some other cache, but from what I can see on my end, my vids are NOT fixed as yet.
(Now exercising "patience mode", hehe :) This is gonna be rough, just kidding :) )
Mike -
Inappropriate? We currently have only fixed shows back to about 1 month, so anything older than that is currently broken. We will try to fix those videos too. Please check back again in the next week or so.
-
Inappropriate?I got this problem last night. I use FlashPlayer 10 so I can detect my dv cam. The connection is an excellent adsl2+ one.
