SlideScreen as android lockscreen?
What about giving SlideScreen a lockscreen option? I -maybe also others- would LOVE to have the SlideScreen page as my lockscreen, instead of the standard one.

I would love to have that option too, unfortunately there's no API for the lock screen right now so we can't do it. As soon as one is available though we'll definitely do it.

really? then how did people make apps like lock 2.0, which changes the lock screen to an iPhone like lock screen? -
@Brian: That replaces the lock screen with a different application.
@Matt, I think the OP meant to make it an application that replaces the lock screen like lock 2.0, which Brian mentioned. Therefore, even more information could be accessed quickly. -
@Brian: Lock 2.0 doesn't actually lock the phone at all, it's pretty horrible really -
While there are certainly security issues with using an alt lockscreen, many of us aren't that worried about it. A replacement lock screen like the one Executive Assistant provides would be amazing -

Inappropriate?Thank You very much for Your fast reply! I'm not a programmer, so I don't know much about API-s.. but, Flyscreen and Executive Assistant offer some kind of Agenda, Weather and Greader functions on their lockscreen..
However, I have to admit, I prefer MUCH more the layout, speed and functionality of SlideScreen; would love to see it on my lockscreen! -
Inappropriate?Flyscreen takes control of the lockscreen through some lower level tricks apparently and it has certain problems involving the phone accidentally unlocking, not to mention keeping up with new Android versions. So we don't think it's a good idea to try it until it's officially supported by Google - but then we'll definitely do it!

Many of these 'lockscreen' apps actually just bypass the lock screen and open themselves right away, hence issues with accidental unlocking. I think this is very sloppy and more trouble than it's worth.
Larvalabs: Please don't do this unless you're going to do it right. :) -
Hey Matt- there IS now an official API for replacing the lockscreen, new in 2.0. Because they don't want apps redefining power management associated with lockdown, they just put it in as a flag you can set in the activity. The alarm clock is an example of this. It replaces the lockscreen when the alarm goes off.
You just need to combine the SCREEN_OFF broadcast with launching the slidescreen as an activity using the flag SHOW_WHEN_LOCKED. You could make a separate app release version called SlideScreen lockscreen, as it would be extremely tricky to develop this without the 2.0 API. If you don't believe me go search for advanced lockscreen in the market, or just go to the alarm clock source on the android GIT. It is called AlarmAlert.java I believe -
Here's the link to the source: http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=plat... -
And here is your official documentation from the google developer guide (it's not very verbose but it gets the point across) -- http://developer.android.com/intl/zh-... -
Ah, very interesting! We have always wanted to do some lock screen functionality but didn't think it was possible. The 2.0+ requirement is a huge pain though with phones coming out running 1.5 even now. I wish everyone was 2.0+ then things would be much simpler. Thanks again for the info. -
Now that there is an official API for it maybe its not an issue any longer but it would be possible to cheat the lockscreen by changing the background image to an always updating rendered image of the "slidescreen" home. As soon as you unlock it, it goes to the real one anyway. -
Perhaps a setting with a warning? I'd love to see this happen. 1.5 is old news. 2.0 users shouldn't get screwed because of poor manufacturers. -
Inappropriate?I wouldn't like this idea as my lock screen should not be visible to others.

should be configurable. -
That's why I think a lockscreen variant works best as a separate package or explicitly labeled advanced option. The fact is that some people would find lockscreen to be more convenient than the homescreen. -
Inappropriate?i think it would be great to change the default lockscreen to something that looks more like slidescreen. but, i agree that my home screen should not be visible to others. perhaps there could be "slidescreen lockscreen". a lockscreen that takes on the appearance and functions of slide screen, but still hides private info.

Inappropriate?Don't make it the entire home screen of info, just do the slider itself, minus the weather. Do the date, time, battery and maybe network info like the Droid Eris does. But figure out how to get rid of the Notifications Bar up top while locked to make it less redundant.
But of course after Google approves this feature.

Inappropriate?I'd love to see this too, if it ever becomes possible.
Though - and I know I'm probably just dreaming, now, but - it would be nice if, instead of my personal information, the lock-slide-screen could display the security grid above the slide bar.
I’m ambitious
-
Inappropriate?Lots of people would like to have the lockscreen option because of the fact that we might still want our homescreens set up with particular widgets and app shortcuts outside the scope of slidescreen integration.
I think the time-saving purpose of slidescreen is enhanced when that converged info-preview dashboard comes up as the first screen when device is awakened.
For those who want full security, you can actually set up slidescreen to launch in reaction to an event called "user present". This will allow slidescreen to launch immediately after the pattern is unlocked. If exited, the last app running would come back, or the home key can be used to jump to home shortcuts/widgets. This way you aren't having to replace home, but achieve the same goal of providing a convenient converged info dashboard and maintaining security.
I will recommend slidescreen to everyone once a lockscreen implementation is done with the very capable android 2.0 lockscreen activity flags.

Inappropriate? Is it not possible to just change the wallpaper from time to time? It's not like we see it anywhere else anyway.
-
Inappropriate?I've actually stopped using slidescreen (I've paid for the pro version) as it doesn't have a few features that I require. I was thinking today, it would be great if it could replace the default android lock screen, then I found this thread. Please, please, please implement this, it'll reignite my interest in slidescreen and actually make my lockscreen useful!
Cheers,
Drew

Inappropriate?Agreed. My favorite thing about my iPhone is LockInfo which is a jailbreak app that makes the lock screen very useful. With the huge flurry of Droid and Droid Incredibles coming out the vast majority of users will be 2.0. I think this should be in the next set of changes for you guys!
-
Inappropriate? Why is this still "not planned"? I show everyone I know LockScreen for the iPhone and they think it's amazing. Then I show them SlideScreen and they are blown away. Every single one of them (maybe a dozen people) have all said they would buy it in a heartbeat if it was a lockscreen and NOT a homescreen.
Matt even said "So we don't think it's a good idea to try it until it's officially supported by Google - but then we'll definitely do it" and then someone posted how it is officially supported now. I would love to see this happen! I will do free adverising to everyone with an Android phone I know if you do!! -
Inappropriate?I agree, it's definitely something to look at. There's a couple problems with the idea currently:
- Still the majority of our users are on OS versions 1.5 or 1.6 (no lock screen API), although clearly we're moving towards 2.0+ in the next little while.
- There's significant concern whether people want personal information on their lockscreen.
So those two things give us pause on that front I think. For me personally, I would probably like it, but we're not quite sure how widely acceptable it would be to users. -
As mentioned above, an app can trigger immediately after unlock as a welcome screen. Probably an easy way to not violate security of info concerns. -
Inappropriate? Can it just be something that's configurable? Lock screen or home screen? Now that the Eris and Hero are getting 2.0+ upgrades as well as the advent of Incredible users I would think more and more people would have 2.0 shortly. Any idea on when the next release will be? Thanks for the response though!

Inappropriate?Matt, just have option for privacy mode to not show detailed crap
just show how many email they have, also that last reason you gave is dumbest thing I ever heard in my life. People who dont want private stuff on lock screen shouldnt download it.
