Help us improve our new beta site - the Flash player and Listen page
Hello,
My name's Matt Brown, and I'm an interaction designer here at Last.fm towers.
Again, we've just launched a new beta version of Last.fm, so while we're tightening screws, sweeping up, polishing and generally watching how subscribers get to grips with it over the next while, I'd love to get some feedback on our ideas.
More specificially, we'd love to hear what you think about the new ideas we're trying out -- around how (or indeed if) you listen to music around the site itself -- with the updated Flash player and the updated Listen page.
If you're a subscriber, you can check out the updated Flash player on an artist page: say, http://beta.last.fm/music/Radiohead
... and the updated Listen page can be found by clicking on any radio station link. For example: http://beta.last.fm/listen/globaltags...
What works for you, and what doesn't? Let us know. All thoughts and ideas are super valuable, especially at beta stage.
Thanks,
Matt

Inappropriate?hey Matt :)
one quick comment, the player should either stop on the artist page if similar artists clicked inside it or the page should be opened in the same window, because currently both pages are playing music :S
i`d prefer opening it in the same window, i think that`s a better practice, it`s easy to press back and i think it makes sense that clicking around the player will affect playback, so no damage can be done :) -
Inappropriate?Hey Dain,
Yeah we've lots of tightening to do -- thanks for the feedback.
Matt
I’m thankful

Inappropriate? Can we have a add to playlist button?
Maybe turn the + button into a muti use button? Clicking the plus will bring a popup saying, would you like to add to library or playlist ?
Just an idea.

Inappropriate?Normalized tracks!
I hate it when I have to turn the volume up/down in the middle of listening because the tracks have different loudness levels. This also applies to the Last.fm client.

Inappropriate? This may be just me, but I think the left menu is way too small, and I hate having to scroll up to read it. I'd like it to be a bit wider, and maybe go down as I scrolled.
I’m undecided

Inappropriate?Could there be a listening count for me on very artist page and on every track page. Maybe in a box with other personal information such as: "last.fm thinks this artist fits you 85%"
I get sent to pages by my friends and then I wonder whether I've ever listened to that artist. And when coming across an artist name on the internet, I usually look him up on last.fm. I then miss the above described information. But furthermore I'd like an estimation how good he fits with my profile.
hm, actually that's not a reply but an idea, is it? Maybe I'll post it again as an idea.
I’m excited to see that feature.

Inappropriate?Joining the party a little late, but it's quite frustrating that when listening to music in the player, the next track isn't automatically played. I have to switch back to the Last.fm page and click the play button each time the previous track stops.
I’m frustrated

I've recently realised that by adding ?autostart to the end of the URL 'automatically starts' the player. Genius. However it would be better if each of the links had the query string appended to them. -
Inappropriate?Where are all the related stations on the listen pages have gone? No similar artist radios, top listener radio and randomly tag radios anymore here? Why?
I’m feeling lost
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the feedback everyone. Sorry I can't discuss every issue and idea individually, but rest assured all this feedback is being taken into account as we continue to make the Last.fm experience as awesome as possible. Keep it coming :)
I’m thankful
