Help us improve our new beta site - The Library
Matt Brown here again -- I'm an interaction designer here at Last.fm.
And, again, we've just launched a new beta, so while we're tightening screws, sweeping up, polishing and generally watching how subscribers get to grips with it over the next while, I'd love to get some feedback on some of our ideas.
More specifically, the new ideas we're trying out around our new Library feature.
If you're a subscriber, you can go to http://beta.last.fm and follow the Library link on the left hand side.
What works for you, and what doesn't? Again, all thoughts and suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt

Inappropriate?logo isnt nice, more blue needed in menu.
user icons need to come back.
need to see in charts site wide stuff ive allready tagged and added to playlist.
other than that the UI is so lovely and crisp its refreshing.
and compared to the last updates... i dont think users have realised page loads are so faster graphicly.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? Thanks for the feedback Damien, and the compliments :)
Will make sure we take this into account when we're tweaking and polishing over the coming weeks.

Inappropriate? The following items refer to the Library > By Plays view.
* Artist Names should be written out in their English names for English reading users. http://www.grabup.com/uploads/d9570bf...
* I think the horizontal paged sliding way of browsing the library is too tedious and the final result is a slow browsing experience. I'd rather scroll to view more artists, not endlessly click next/prev buttons. Or maybe the choice to pick what way (horiz. paged vs vert. scroll)
* This way the tabs are styled doesn't feel congruent with the rest of the site. http://www.grabup.com/uploads/abe10d3... There are already several other styles (smooth gray gradient used for the flash components, solid light gray for the left nav, and dark solid gray for the top nav.)
* As a user who rarely streams the last.fm, this Library > By Plays view isn't particularly useful to me. I would love to be able to use this view to see where my music tastes intersect with my friends. Or I could go to a friend's library page and see exactly what artists we have in common. I've always felt that the compatibility meter was a little too simple by itself (http://www.grabup.com/uploads/a145f78...).
Overall I'm excited about the new direction last.fm is going, and happy to see the visual style a bit more minimal. The orange and blue colors remind me of the old school audioscrobbler site, before the transformation into last.fm.

Inappropriate?Hi deleteme - many thanks for this, super useful.
* We're still working on internationalization in the beta so hopefully translation issues will be smoothed out soon.
* Agreed about Library browsing requiring too much effort. We're working on this now, so keep an eye out for improvements.
* Skin and style inconsistencies are also being ironed out around the site, so you'll see improvements over the coming weeks.
* Very cool idea about comparing friends' Libraries to yours -- we've been discussing loads of ideas like this, and we can't wait to start doing all sorts of fun stuff once we get the basics sorted :)

Inappropriate? The settings (http://beta.last.fm/settings/account) page looks broken. Buttons and corresponding text do not form a group.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Oh, and this looks great:

Maybe you can make a deal with the developer, and incorporate this? It would really look amazing.
I’m confident

Inappropriate? Is there going to be a new version of "paint it black" incorporated with the new look? in that case how about a paint it blue? :)
I’m curious

Inappropriate? It would be very cool to see HOW an artist was added to our libraries!
Small icons beneath the artist images could represent the actual "status" of the artists in our library.
What icons would be needed?
Tag icon
Love icon
Playlist icon
Add icon (for manually added artists)
Scrobble icon
What could be done additionally with these icons?
1. If we want to remove an artist, we could check first in which of our profile areas this artist will be deleted too!
2. We could filter our library by these icons to just show loved artists, tagged artists, manually added artists, artists in playlists, scrobbled artists or combinations of that!
3. It would be possible to play a selective library radio which for example plays only tagged artists!
I’m confident

Hi Matt, any news about that? I think it would be important now to see HOW an artist was added to our libraries! -
Inappropriate?Hello? Still no news yet?
Where are you "7 employees who are listening and participating"???
I’m feeling left alone
-
Inappropriate?Hi @akrde, sorry for making you feel left alone. Unfortunately we can't address every individual issue with individual people, but rest assured we're listening. We're using Get Satisfaction in an experimental capacity to see how it works in tandem with Last.fm's forums and support offering.
Again, rest assured we have a lot of cool plans for the Library, and everyone's input is listened to, appreciated and taken into account.
I’m thankful
