PayPal: "Incorrectly formatted item amount" when button is clicked
I just sent an invoice to a client, but the PayNow button included in the message results in an error when clicked. It says:
The link you have used to enter the PayPal system contains an incorrectly formatted item amount.
And so my client cannot pay. URL in the PayPal browser window is this:
https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/web...
Is this because the invoice is in pounds sterling? Or some other glitch? Quite annoying... :-(

Inappropriate?Let's start with the silliest of mistakes.
Double check the email address you added in the settings of your lessaccounting account to activity Paypal payments.
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate? No, it is definitely correct. Paypal page is showing my email address as the merchant.
The PayPal email address is different from my email address that I signed up for LessAccounting with, but I deffo entered the correct address when setting up PayPal payments on LessAccounting. I double-checked it now, too. -
What is the currency of your business set to? Is it different than the invoice's currency? I am trying to recreate this issue. -
Inappropriate?Having the same problem. Using US currency. I am sending the link to two separate email addresses. Would that cause a problem?
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?Hey guys, any luck on this? It's really holding us up right now. Please let me know if anything can be done. Thanks!
I’m anxious
-
Inappropriate?Guys, have noticed the following...
My invoice totals 1,082.00 (even) But LA is rendering an invoice for 1,081.99 (sent as email, also in the 'editing' an invoice page)
Something's definitely up...
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate? The currency on my biz is the same as the invoice (GBP).
-
Inappropriate?I'm having some trouble replicating this issue. Can you please send a copy of the invoice to me at john@lesseverything.com? I'll get it fixed up as soon as possible. Thanks!
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Hey John, thanks for looking into this. Not sure if you made any progress yet, but here's a screen-shot of the issue. Notice the amount on the invoice being edited, is different from that listed in 'saved invoices'
Again, this is the only irregularity I've noticed.
Thanks again for your help.

Inappropriate?I am having this issue as well, i have 2 invoices that have given me the "The link you have used to enter the PayPal system contains an incorrectly formatted item amount" now and my clients are upset as am i. Please advise, i have been using your system with PayPal for probably a year now and this issue has just begun popping up so all settings are correct.

Inappropriate?i figured out why mine was giving me an error. my Pay Now button was linked to ...
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...@tacomaphoenix.com&item_name=Phoenix%20Design%20-%20Invoice%20%232009-2319&item_number=2009-2319&amount=52.224&buyer_credit_promo_code=&buyer_credit_product_category=&buyer_credit_shipping_method=&buyer_credit_user_address_change=&no_shipping=1&return=http://phoenixdesign.lessaccounting.com/invoices/512695&cancel_return=http://phoenixdesign.lessaccounting.com/invoices/512695&no_note=1¤cy_code=USD&lc=US&bn=PP-BuyNowBF
If you notice on amount it says "amount=52.224" where it should say "amount=52.22"
When i manually typed in the URL with the corrected amount it worked fine. This may help you pinpoint the problem

Inappropriate? Thanks for the sending me that invoice, Miko. I found the source of the problem and have prepared a patch that should solve it once and for all.
I'm very sorry that this bug has been interfering with your business. I'll let you know as soon as the patch has been applied to our servers. -
Inappropriate?Sorry about the trouble, Miko! We've fixed the problem. If you re-send your invoices, the PayPal button should work now.
