Why don't RSS feeds for user tags work?
Hi, can you tell me why the RSS feeds for user tags do not work? They are blank and are not valid RSS feeds. I'd like to use my personal tag "new acquisitions" to create an RSS feed to feed into a web page.
For example:
Tag: http://www.librarything.com/catalog/njp2&tag=reference
Resulting feed when I click the "XML" button from the tag page:
http://www.librarything.com/rss/yourt...&user=njp2
Feed is blank, is not recognized by any RSS readers, and FeedValidator returns this message:
Sorry
This feed does not validate.
*line 1, column 0: XML parsing error: <unknown>:1:0: no element found
In addition, interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendation.
*Feeds should not be served with the "text/html" media type [help]
Source: http://www.librarything.com/rss/yourt...
I've tried the LibraryThing site forums, but with found no answers...please help! This is one of the major functionalities that made me sign up for LibraryThing!
Many thanks, /Nick Patterson</unknown>

Inappropriate?Hi Nick,
I'm surprised you didn't get any help on the LT site, which forum did you post your problem too?
I see you posted this issue 9 months ago, as of today I followed your link and it was working. Is it working for you too?
I’m wondering if LT should link up from the GS forum

Hi David, Thanks for your reply. Nope, I never heard a peep from LT, unfortunately, despite posting in several different forums and asking Abby Blachy directly.
I just tried this link again:
http://www.librarything.com/rss/yourt...
and it brings up a blank window in both Firefox and in IE, on a MacBook running 10.4.11.
Hmmm - is the above link the one that worked for you? This is the link generated by the RSS feed button on the LT page. If it's working for you, perhaps it's a Mac issue only (what are you using?).
Please let me know, if you can - I'd hoped to use these tags to create feeds of recent acquisitions, etc., and am very disappointed that it's not working as claimed.
Best, /Nick -
That links works for me, but obviously shows *my* books. Here's a me-specific link, it works for me, does it work for you? http://www.librarything.com/rss/yourtags/reference&user=kwill
If so, try swopping your username in and see if that works. Post it here (if you don't mind disclosing your username) and I'll check that I can see it.
If not, yeah, must be a Mac thing. Or, is your library private? -
Inappropriate?Aha! Think that's it!
I haven't been on the pages for some time, due to this problem, but it appears that they have changed the structure of the URLs for the RSS tags - it was different from what I had, and now it does seems to be working.
Thanks! I appreciate your bringing this issue back from the dead! /Nick
