bible reading plan developed by a cult leader?
Why did you guys choose a Bible reading plan developed by a cult leader? There are dozens of Bible reading plans you could have used or you could have developed your own. Why in the world would you use Robert Roberts plan?

Inappropriate? Are you reading the bible or getting hung up on incidentals here? The reading plan itself has no moral connotation, no addition or subtraction from the material itself, and doesn't carry some kind of boogieman spell to get you while you sleep if you use it.
It's reading the bible. Do it or don't do it. But complaining about the 'who' in the design is a waste of time.
I’m indifferent to those who feel the need to complain about absolutely anything at all to feel superior to others.

Looking back, I realize that my question was worded in a less than gracious way and no doubt contributed to your feeling justified in acting as if I made statements that I did not make (moral connotation, boogieman spell) and accusing me of complaining when I was genuinely trying to ask what I thought was a legitimate question (again acknowledging my mistake in the way I posed it).
I am also sorry if the way I posed the question is what led you to presume to judge my motives and my character - indirectly accusing me in your "mood" signature of being a person who would "complain about absolutely anything at all to feel superior to others".
Please allow me to explain in greater detail my concern. When I saw the attribution of the reading plan, I took it (and believe most reasonable people would) as a tacite approval and possibly even a recommendation of Robert Roberts (who I had never heard of before). When I Googled to find out more I realized somewhere along the way that a new believer or seeker could follow that same thought process and potentially be led astray thinking that Youversion or Lifechurch.tv was recomending Robert Roberts and his teaching.
It just seemed unnecessary to potentially put someone in harms way spiritually when there are so many other reading plans available or when you could have simply devised a new one. -
Inappropriate?I think you missed the point. In fact, I know you did.
Aside from that, one person's "cult leader" is another person's spiritual mentor. I recommend reading the bible and leave labeling of prejudices to those who don't.
I’m unconcerned with those who believe their version of 'right' is the only right.

Inappropriate?I don't know anything about Robert Roberts but my question to you is why does it matter? I'm not reading anything by Robert Roberts. I'm reading the Word of God. I'm a believer who struggles at times with consistantly being in God's Word on a daily basis. I've found this system to extremely helpful and I praise God for using that guy to establish it regardless of whatever his background is. After all, God once used a donkey to give some good information to Balaam. The information was good even though it came from a jackass. My point is don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. This is a daily schedule of reading the living Word of God regardless of who developed it and it works for me. Blessings, Greg

Inappropriate?Actually, I'll follow up again on this because I agree with Greg above but from a directly opposite approach and reason.
Quite frankly, I saw the attribution of the author and figured it was some dude along the lines of every other dude who's designed a year-long reading plan and ignored it.
You've probably given Robert Roberts more airtime than a small attribution of credit at the bottom of the plan itself. I'd have never even looked him up but for your posturing that a "cult leader" designed a really neat and workable reading plan for the bible.
And I'd certainly prefer a "cult leader" of the past over some of the more popular "cult leaders" of our present age (Dobson, Falwell, Robertson, LaHey, etc etc ad nauseam). At least the former is dead and gone and is part of history where he can be studied at arm's length. We can only hope the rest go that way sooner than later.
If you are so arrogant to believe that only Christians use this site or read your bible, you have a lot to learn about the world. Some of us on the other side of the playground are even more prepared to study, learn, and utilize your scriptures than many of your own kind. So while you're out playing in Wikipedia for the spiritual missile crisis that will bombard some newbie to your religion, some of us are actually on day five of reading the bible.
And if you'd like to discuss that somewhere, I'm all ears. But this is just nonsense to get in the way of digging into the bible, and I believe it is a great example of what Tillich would call "demonic." -
Inappropriate?Fred, I am trying to access more info about Robert Roberts - where is your source?
I’m looking forward to a response.
-
Inappropriate?Robert Roberts is one the founding fathers of the Christadelphian faith along with Dr. John Thomas (Christadelphian meaning brethren in Christ) I encourage you to look up the facets of this religion. I am confident that you will find that it is not cult-like at all.
I’m confident

Inappropriate? You don't consider the fact that they believe that God is the source of evil to be cult like?

Inappropriate?(KJV)
Isa 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
(ESV)
Isa 45:7 I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the LORD, who does all these things.
(ASV)
Isa 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil. I am Jehovah, that doeth all these things.
That is 3 English translations that say God creates what we may call evil. And this is not just in Isaiah. Try The Lamentations of Jeremiah and the Book of Amos:
(KJV)
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
(ESV)
Amos 3:6 Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does disaster come to a city, unless the LORD has done it?
(ASV)
Amos 3:6 Shall the trumpet be blown in a city, and the people not be afraid? shall evil befall a city, and Jehovah hath not done it?
(KJV)
Lamentations 3:38 Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?
(ESV)
Lamentations 3:38 Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that good and bad come?
(ASV)
Lamentations 3:38 Out of the mouth of the Most High cometh there not evil and good?
You may also consider Job and note that "Satan" is given his power by God and in the end what may have seemed like evil is a blessing for what Job and his friends learn. (Heb 12:11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.)
But where does real evil come from? Evil in the sense of against the ways of God? Jesus says in MarK 7:21-23 "For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,
coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.
All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person."
The true "evil" in this world comes from within the heart of man. The evil in this world is our fault, thus part of the reason we need to repent when we seek to come to God.
God is the source of all that is good and he disciplines those who seek him and love him. -
The evil,as referenced here in these passages, is meaning like calamity. Or what might seem bad. And to the unbeliever it would be bad. -
Inappropriate?Exactly the Christadelphian point according to a friend of mine. That is why I used several translations for some use calamity or disaster rather than evil. If by "evil" you mean sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,
coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, and pride this does not come from God but comes out of the heart of man, according to Jesus. I trust Jesus.
