Why do my user name and password not work on my computer?

I have a user name and password that works on other computers but when I try to log in on my home computer, it tells me the user name and/or password does not exist. I have Windows Vista and have tried using Firefox and Windows Explorer to log in but neither one works. What can I do? Thanks.
