YouVersion for BlackBerry Storm?
Is there a version of YouVersion being developed for the BlackBerry Storm? I downloaded version 0.9.19 on my Storm 9530 yesterday and when I first ran it, it worked pretty well in full-screen mode with scrolling and everything on my Storm. When I ran it again later last night, it opened up in "Compatibility Mode" and had the SureType keyboard on the bottom of the screen and it was unable to remove it.
Can someone provide some insight on development with regards to the BlackBerry Storm? Thanks!

On your Blackberry device goto youversion.com/download and install the latest version. This includes compatibility with the Storm.
It is advised that you delete any current version that you have and install the new version. Make sure you turn of compatibility mode.
I’m happy

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate?well... i see that you can go to advanced options in the options of your *storm and then turn off compatubility mode... i hope you don't have to do that everytime... maybe only when you restart your blackberry... but i have to hold mine in *landscape mode for it to look semi-normal plus hide keyboard unless i need to type... it's a small sacrifice for a great app and it's only until the world begins to adjust to the new blackberryy... this happens all the time, new phone comes out... so now every company with a blackberry app tries to come out with a more updated version to fit that model.. and you can basically use any old app... just turn off compatability mode for some... and for others it isn't that big a deal... good luck though enjoy

Which version did you use when this method worked for you? -
Inappropriate?I downloaded the 1.0 Bold version and tried this already except I could not scroll between the items in the carousel. So when I start up the app, I can only go into the Reader. I have found that for now, the best way to do it is to download the version for the Curve and ENABLE compatibility mode. That way everything looks OK and its all functional, but I would like to be able to use the full screen.
I understand that this is a new phone and all the new users are waiting for updates to their favorite apps to work on their Storms, I just was looking for some guidance from a LifeChurch.TV developer as to when we can expect a version made for the Storm.
I saw at http://blog.youversion.com/?p=139 that it says a Storm compatible version will be coming soon so I will just keep checking back. If anyone can give a more firm date that would be appreciated though. Thanks!
I’m anticipating...
-
Inappropriate?I would imagine the first quarter of '09
-
Inappropriate?I would like to also ask to be notified just as soon as a BB Storm version is available...thank-you sincerely,
-
I am sort of using the version 1.0 for the Bold,,,I hope the Storm version is early in 1st qtr '09 cause we can't wait. I've used Olivetree on my Treos DAILY since 1999 and am ready to change with the little I have working and what I see now. Super job on the development and total social networking integration concept...I may have found my home. -
Inappropriate?my mother and father just got bb storm's and are yelling down my neck for this!! so yes, we are working on it, but no firm date as of right now, sorry that it isn't fully compatible. Soon.
-
get going, man! -
Inappropriate?is there any way we can get email notification when it does come out?? i cant wait! i had it on my itouch but that doesnt have internet at church and i like th ESV version. Now that i have the storm, i have internet everywhere so i can read the ESV version. I cant wait!
-
Inappropriate?hey, the storm's such a great product and seeing as it is that there's a version for iphone, the required tweak can't be that much !
I’m anxious
-
Inappropriate? So, no new news yet.... Anyway, will the storm verison have the ability to copy and paste and take notes while using the biblereader just as the Iphone can?
-
Inappropriate?duregger - can you provide an update to this thread as to the status of the Storm version? Since this is the most popular question on the boards, I know lots of people are eagerly anticipating it. Any updates would be highly appreciated. Thanks so much!
-
Inappropriate?Download the Bold version. Make sure you have compatibility mode turned off in options/advanced options/applications/youversion (blackberry button / disable compatibility mode) You have to use it in landscape mode with your phone flipped sideways or else the application is off the screen. Also the buttons at the bottom won't work, but that's not a big deal since you can access those features through the menu. It's not perfect, but it does work. Still waiting on a native storm app, but it will do for now.
ps. I am running the latest leaked firmware 4.7.0.109 so if your on 4.7.0.75(official) and it's not working for you then that might be why. I'm not advising you update to leaked firmware, but it is lightyears ahead of the current .75 in speed and stability.
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?Pastorhudson - I too am running version 4.7.0.109 and am using the Bold version w/ compatibility mode turned off (changed my mind since my 2nd post 3 months ago - decided I'd rather have full screen and no carousel than half screen and full functionality). But when you bring up the keyboard to type in a passage, it covers up the text box where you're typing so that's annoying. Plus, I would just like a version that is made specifically for the Storm.
Thanks for the advice though. I just want to hear from Youversion on when a version for the Storm will be available.
God bless... -
Inappropriate?Ya the keyboard covering the screen stinks. I wouldn't hold my breath on the storm version. They took forever to get a blackberry version, and they never gave updates. It just came out one day. I think I actually saw it on crackberry days before I got an answer here. It seems this forum isn't really that much of a priority to youversion. I'm sure they are too busy and short staffed to dedicate the time and resources to keep us up to date on the dev process :(
I'm sure it will be great when it comes :)
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate? Those of you who want to know when it comes out should just subcribe to the RSS feed.
I’m unconcerned
-
Inappropriate?Where is the RSS feed?
NGB -
Inappropriate?Goto the 'Menu Bar'. Click on 'Tools'. Click on 'Feed Discovery' then click on 'RSS'. This will navigate away from the page you are on to the RSS page. On the RSS page click on the 'Subscribe to this feed'.Hope that helps! :)
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?(Alt+J) will display the feeds in a drop down menu in the upper righthand corner of the browser client window (I think thats what it is called) . Then click on 'RSS'.(or you can just click the down arrow by the rss picture) See picture.

Inappropriate? This says it's the bible reader for the olive tree software? Does it work for youversion as well? Guess I'll check and find out.
-
Inappropriate? So, I've downloaded it and this doesn't seem to have anything to do with youversion. I know what olivetree is and it's a different software than youversion. Correct me if I'm wrong or if I'm missing something please.
-
Inappropriate?I am really excited for the Storm Version. The response to this thread is 3 months old. About how much longer do you think it will be for the Storm Version. You guys rock!
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Hey all... Look for a redesigned YouVersion.com on April 25th, once the website redesign is launched our team will focus on mobile apps including Android and Bold.
I’m excited
-
First off, thank you for all that you guys are working on in producing a great app for the Christian world... but I do have one question about this reply... Why would this be posted in the Storm string? There's no reference to the Storm here at all, which is what we have questions about and would LOVE to see an app designed for. -
Inappropriate?duregger, what about the storm?
-
Inappropriate?I just down down loaded this on my storm a few days ago. Once it was down loaded I went to Options->Advanced Options->Applications->Highlight Bible and then hit the Blackberry button and disable the compatibility mode...has worked GREAT!
-
Inappropriate?Hi everyone,
I am just not sure what to read anymore. Can someone explain to me what I have to download for my blackberry storm, and then what configs I have to do to get it working ?
Thanks -
I did, one month ago,
Download the Bold version. -
Inappropriate? You can download the current version for the bold, and it works ok on the storm. You have to disable compatibility mode as Jenny mentioned to get it to work half way decent.
-
Inappropriate?Sorry about that guys.... I wasn't paying close attention to all the other postings.
Thanks again
Could you send me the link for the download - it is blocked here at the office. -
Inappropriate?Hi, just a clarification, I need the link to access the download site via the black
Thanks again -
Inappropriate?I have installed the application, and configured it as mentioned.
It is working pretty good now. But, as it was indicated above, the buttons on the bottom do not work.
None the less, it is running well and very usable.
Thank you all so much for your help
I am anxious to see how the Blackberry Storm version runs once it is finally out.
NGB -
Inappropriate?I've been using the download for the curve and it works great thus far! Just waiting for the storm edition to come out...
-
Inappropriate?Hi all, I've been using the bold version for awhile and everything was alright with my storm until recently when it just couldnt connect anymore and the connection at the opening screen was only halfway through.. I've tried all kinds of methods, re-installing, allowing the connection, etc.. but nothing seems to work.. can anyone help me with this problem??
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Anyone know if they are planning to release a Storm version of this? I like the app and have been using it with compatibility mode on, but it always has to be in portrait mode and there are some issues with the layouts. Thanks,
-
Inappropriate? It still sounds like there is interest in a Storm version, and it sure sounded like there WAS a version coming out earlier this year. Is there anyone on the development listening to this topic? Is there anyone who can give us a good update on an actual release specific to the Storm with full functionality? I have removed the app for now, and am using an older bible reader program that isn't great, but they at least developed a version that works well with the Storm specifically. I know a lot of people now with Storms, and am tired of recommending they purchase bibles for this other reader - rather than being able to confidently direct them to the Storm. App World????
I’m tired of waiting...
-
Inappropriate?yeah, don't think they even read this anymore. getsatisfactions.com doesn't = satisfaction

Inappropriate? The Blackberry Storm version is on our list, but isn't in active development currently, and at this time we do not have a release date. We highly suggest you use the browser on the Storm (and any other devices without specific YouVersion applications) to http://m.youversion.com to access scripture on the go.
-
Inappropriate?I know it's been mentioned before, but I would REALLY love to see this for the BB Storm. I've tried a few menioned options, with no success. I just migrated from the 8900, and the Bible was the neatest thing I've seen available, and I really miss it on my Storm.
If it's possible, please email me with updates on the app for the Storm.
Thanks for your work!
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
PLEASE make it available for the BB Storm!.
I’m sad, frustrated
-
Inappropriate?sorry, but i just don't understand how the storm version is not in "active development" - the storm is not going away, storm 2 is coming out soon, and touchscreen blackberrys are not just a "one-off" thing. they are here to stay. also, considering that this topic is at the very top of the frequently asked questions section of your forum should indicate that it's in pretty high demand. look at the previous comments - everyone is sad and frustrated. and don't assume that the people who have posted are the ONLY ones waiting for this. tony, have you used the bb browser app? it sucks and it's slow. storm version PLEASE. if you're not gonna do it, just tell us and quit beating around the bush.
I’m frustrated
-
Are you saying that the BB Strom Browser sucks and is slow or that YouVersion.com Mobile sucks and and is slow? -
Inappropriate?the blackberry browser application built into the blackberry os. the mobile website is fine but is limited by the browser problems which make it feel laggy and a bit unresponsive. it is not necessarily a fault of the website, just the weak browser.
sorry for being so frank in my last post but it just gets incredibly frustrating when all the iphone and android users get such a well-rounded app and us storm users are left out in the cold. -
well, also it's disappointing as a former Curve user to have to give up YouVersion because a move to the storm (with way more screen space) but yeah, there's lot of other Bible reading products out there to be had. -
-
Inappropriate? Here is a video on how to get the YouVersion Bible App working on your Storm..sorta.
http://vimeo.com/6401018
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?I can understand the frustration everyone is feeling in this thread. I'm getting the feeling that the YouVersion staff all have iPhones or Android phones, which is why they have focused their attention in that direction.
All of the 'answers' in this thread are answering questions we didn't ask for:
"Get Youversion App working on your Storm...sorta"
"Use YouVersion Mobile instead."
"Have you looked into the Olive Tree or Acro Bible? They have a Strom version. "
I think we would all feel better if YouVersion staff would tell us WHY Storm isn't in active development, and what criteria needs to be met before they begin developing for it. What specific attributes do the iPhone and Android OS's have that persuaded YouVersion to develop for them?
I’m frustrated
-
You mentioned iPhone and Android phones only. We do offer YouVersion for BlackBerry OS v4.2.1 or higher, and on these devices: 9000, 8900, 88xx, 87xx, 8300, 8220, 81xx, 7130. -
Inappropriate?Again, you take the opportunity to correct my statement instead of answer my questions.
I’m frustrated
1 person thinks
this is one of the best points
-
I am sorry that you are frustrated that YouVersion does not currently offer a native app for the BlackBerry Storm. Our plan is to make the application available on all mobile devices.
However, we have to take several items into account. Since we have limited resources we must look at the phones market share and the ease of developing on the device. Currently the market share of the Storm is low and it is very complicated to develop on.
Our current focus is on developing for J2ME which is used by over 880 million user on Vodaphone (Verizon & China Mobile) alone. We have to weigh that number above that of the aprox. 3 million Storms sold.
If you know of any Storm developers that would be interested in volunteering their time we could use their help.
Thanks again for using YouVersion. I hope this gives you the answer you are looking for. -
Inappropriate?I think we need to thank John and the others with LifeChurchTV and YouVersion for the incredible job they have done with the software, and although I use Olive Tree primarily right now due to it having a good version for the Storm (and I'd been using it long before YouVersion arrived on the scene), it does have a cost to get certain bible versions, as do others. YouVersion has not asked for one dime to develop what they have done - and should be applauded and appreciated for such.
That being said - I also think xmaveric has a good question. There have been many on this forum, and I know of at least a dozen or two other storm users in my own circles, who would love to have a good version for the storm. Since there are other touch versions out there and other blackberry versions out there, why is it that the Storm is not just being told to sit at the back of the bus and wait - but it seems to be asked to get off the bus entirely and be happy with walking there?? If there is a reason John, please share. If not, please acknowledge to us and to the development team that there is a pent up demand for this version and a big win for everyone if you can pull it off!
P.S. Thanks for the Vimeo broadcast. Several of us had tried that long ago - and it is a bit better with the newer version, but it still obviously falls short also.
I’m still disappointed
-
Inappropriate?I don't know.................my main objection for this "free" download was that it was difficult to read in the application that was available and irritating that you could not get rid of the key board. The Vimeo broadcast is an easy watch and even for this non-computer geek, I was able to change my application and actually am fine with the way it works.
-
Inappropriate?I tried disabling the compatibility mode right after finding YouVersion. There programs I use have the same issue. The app is still not 100%, but I end up usingit more then the Laridan Bible reader I payed for and having ready access to so many versions sealed it for me. I still have Laridan, but it's now my back-up while I wait for a fully functioning, Storm-ready version of YouVersion.
-
Inappropriate?Version 2.0 is out and apparently it will not work on the 9530 Storm at all. The opening screen appears with no available buttons and nothing in the menu except 'Show keyboard', switch apps' and 'exit'.
Guess we're out of action. Too bad; I really liked it. -
Update to 2.0.2 and this should be better for you. -
Inappropriate?hey guys, I am thankful for all you have done so far on youversion for BB but I just downloaded the newest version and now nothing works How do i get a copy of 1.0 again so i can at least use it the way it was?
I’m frustrated
-
Sorry but 1.0 is no longer available. Try updating to the latest build 2.0.2. -
Inappropriate?First off, I want to thank LifeChurchTV and YouVersion for creating and sharing a great product with an AWESOME purpose! What a great ministry.
I saw today that YouVersion Live is now "live" and that BB app users are directed to select a button on the "home screen" to access the live feature. That means that the Storm users that followed the "sort of" instructions have no ability (at least that I can see) to use the live feature because none of the buttons (except reader) work with the workaround.
I understand that (and why) the Storm is not the highest priority for the developers and, while I would love to see it, I am not asking for you to jump on releasing a Storm version ASAP. Instead, would it be possible to put a shortcut to Live in the menu that pops up when you hit the BB menu button? (Specifically on the Tour version since that's the one Storm owners "sort of" use.) Since there are already options for Read, Daily Read, and Contribs in the menu, I am hoping that this would be an easy addition that would make your new feature available for us Storm users until a Storm version is released.
Thanks again for your great work! It is MUCH appreciated!!! -
What version are you using? Update to 2.0.2 and you should see LIVE in the menu. -
Inappropriate?folks, do yourself a favor and get AcroBible. I gave up on youversion months ago and got AcroBible. it's really a pretty incredible app. also, when you are inside (church!) you can still view your Bible fast and efficiently. not to mention it comes with a reading plan, free translation and commentary downloads, bookmarks, search feature. you can't beat it! works perfect with the storm since it was designed specifically for it.
I’m happy with AcroBible
-
Inappropriate? If you disable the compatibility mode for the app it works much better.
Go to options (the wrench) and select applications, find the app and click the menu button, click disable compatibility mode.
It doesn't fit on the screen as a portrait, but it looks great as landscape. -
I am using the v5.0 on Storm and don't find the compatibility option. -
I am using the newest software for the Storm.
Go to options (the wrench) and select applications, find the app and click the menu button, click disable compatibility mode.
It looks great. The only problem is when it first opens in portrait mode it doesn't fit to the screen, after that everything words fine in either view. -

Inappropriate?Does no one here understand that the storm is one of the best selling blackberries right now, and with the storm 2 just coming out, it would be stupid not to get it into production. As a Church goer this app is great on my wifes tour, but i don;t want to have to fight her for it every sunday to keep up. Please get it moving and stop twiddling your thumbs
-
Really? Does anyone not realize the app is free? For people who are not paying for this, there sure are a lot of upset people. If we were paying I could understand the demands, but come on...it's free...they don't owe you anything. They aren't even obligated to provide any apps...and BTW - I am a storm user, and I can't wait to get this app...but come on...seriously... -
Inappropriate?I have to agree with geoffrey.janes. I too am a storm user and would love access to this app. They are developing this stuff for FREE!!!!! Please have a bit of perspective.
-
Inappropriate?I picked up a Droid at Walmart yesterday, went to the Google marketplace and downloaded a fabulous version for the Droid. That is a day before the release of the phone and already there is a YouVersion app available. I was looking at the Storm 2, but with the lack of real support I went with the Google phone.
-
The Android version has been out for a few months. Looking forward to checking out the Droid myself. -
Inappropriate?Yep, but if I bought the Storm2 I still would have no YouVersion app and an inferior phone. My point was that there seems to be a version for all phones but the Storm/2.
-
Inappropriate? That is something that I noticed as well...namely that there seems to be a version for every major phone but the Storm. Why is it simply not a priority?
-
Many phones don't have a native YouVersion app. We do offer a native BlackBerry app and it does work on the Storm. It's not perfect we know but it does work. -
Inappropriate?I only ask that question since, after inquiring in February, I received an email at that time stating that development of YouVersion for the Storm would begin in March or April, at the latest. Yet, surprisingly, no development for this has begun yet. I guess Android trumped it and it became a higher priority. I am not upset, just wanting an honest reply...is development for a Storm version at all in the future? And, if so, approximately how far away?
-
I am not aware of this email or any exact date being set. We do currently offer a Black Berry version that does work on the Storm. It's not perfect but it does work.
A Storm version will be available in the future. -
Inappropriate? With recent comments, I want to thank Lifechurch.tv & their associates for making YouVersion available. I have it on my BBStorm1 and it gets a lot of use.
A also keep Laridian's software (w/4 versions) because of its note editing and search functions.
But, just the sheer number of versions immediately available with YV have made it indispensable. I've still not had the opportunity to use the 'Live' module yet; only one organization in our area uses it.
I look forward to eventually being able to consolidate into on application. Until then, your efforts are appreciated. -
I appreciate Lifechurch and YV sooooooo much that I had to switch platforms to get a version that would work on my mobile. I am glad I did although BlackBerry may not be. In my opinion the android version (probably because it is an open os) is by far the best version out there.
The point of the Storm was a year ago when I got the phone the word on YV's website was that the Storm version was a top priority, matter of fact one of the employees Mom's had a Storm and that made it even more of a priority!
A year later...... I feel for you Storm owners. -
Inappropriate?Funny you say that Paul, that is the same thing I remember. "My parents both have a storm and we are working hard to get this out!" 1 year later, nadda.
-
Inappropriate? For clarification, which version works with the Storm? And, are there any specific configuration requirements? Thanks!
-
-
-
This is awesome! Thank you so much! I will still look forward to a Storm-centric version but, in the meantime, this is perfect. Love it! -
Inappropriate?Great news, John. This will be one Monday I'll look forward to.

Thank YOU! -
Thank YOU! -
Inappropriate?I'm now running the Storm version 2.0.5 and it is awesome! Thanks so much to everyone that worked so hard on this. God bless you!
-
Inappropriate?Just downloaded it. You guys rock. Fantastic!
-
Inappropriate? Is there something i have to do to get the keyboard to go away.. i have the keyboard up the whole time and can't get it to dissappear, but anyways thanks sooo much for the storm version.
-
Just swipe down. The keyboard closes just fine on my version. You can also hit the Blackberry Menu button and select "hide keyboard. Also make sure you installed the right app. It is version 2.0.5 -
Inappropriate?Swiping not working... No option to hide keyboard... Yes I'm on 2.0.5... I'm on a S1, does that make a difference???
-
I would delete is re-install. Keyboard should only show up when you are in a input field. Also make sure that you are not in compatibility mode.
Swiping is not a feature in the app. -
Actually John swiping does work to close the keyboard. -
Actually John swiping does work to close the keyboard. It just doesn't open it. Clicking in the input field does bring it up. -
Inappropriate?Uninstall in it and reboot, and then reinstall it.. that is what i had to do and it worked fine.
-
Inappropriate?Where do I go to download the version for the Storm 2?
-
youversion.com/download There is only one version of the app now. -
Inappropriate?i'll try that, thanks
-
Inappropriate? On your Blackberry device goto youversion.com/download and install the latest version. This includes compatibility with the Storm.
It is advised that you delete any current version that you have and install the new version. Make sure you turn of compatibility mode.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? As the original asker of this question - I was very happy to be in church yesterday morning and when I opened YouVersion on my BlackBerry Storm2 it said there was an update. I updated and found that it works flawlessly with my Storm now so I'm so excited. Thanks for this great app! It took a year for you guys to get it - but it looks like you got it right. Keep up the good work :o)
I’m thankful!
-
Inappropriate?Hmmmmm --- I just downloaded the 2.0.5 version to my Storm 2 9550 --- and I do not get the Storm interface. It is just about unusable. Is there some setting I need to change?
I’m confused
-
You should not need to change anything. What about it is "unusable"? -
This comment was removed on 11/23/09.

It is the old interface --- does not work with the touch screen -
I suggest that you delete in re install. -
Did that --- uninstalled --- phone rebooted to clean it out --- reinstalled same thing. I just go this phone last week --- running v 5.0.0.320 -
Okay --- finally figure it out. I did have to disable compatibility mode. I assumed since this version supported Storm that was unnecessary. Look forward to using the app! -

Inappropriate?btw guys when i installed it I had to reset and turn off compatibility mode on the phone for this app. that fixed some issue i had when i first started the app. so anyone try the new version, check for this first.
-
Inappropriate?Deleted the previous version and DLd 2.0.5 to my Storm1. So far, this app works perfectly. Thank you, Lifechurch. I'm a happy man.
-
Inappropriate?YES!!!!! got it up. never forget to reboot the BB. Waited long time! now read everyday long time!!! Thank you for hearing the cry of the storm...

Inappropriate?Having trouble with my Storm(1). Just downloaded it on 11/28/09. Disabled compatibility and still have the keyboard showing. :( I even rebooted my phone... still having issues. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!
I’m bummed
-
I had the same issue, just uninstall it and reboot then retry to install it, and should work fine. -
Thank you. That worked. Love this app! My children think it's cool I have the Bible on my phone, too. :) -

Inappropriate?Even after rebooting the suretype keyboard is still showing on my blackberry storm2. HOW do I disable compatability mode? Help!!!!
-
Inappropriate?Thank You, Thank You, THANK YOU!!!! It works great on my storm! I am so very excited to have this app on my Storm now!!! I love YouVersion and tell everyone I know to use it and now I can have it on my phone. Merry Christmas to me. Thanks Guys!
