Can't accept or recieve recommendations
I can't accept a recommendation. Also, the only way one of my colleagues could put in a recommendation was as a consultant. Even when he gets it through that way I can't accept it. I get the following error:
"This recommendation is not available."
It sure looks available. It's sitting in my inbox and under recommendations. I have sent emails to the customer service address without any help. This is getting really frustrating.

Inappropriate?My profile is:

I'm still trying to accept an archived recommendation as it keeps throwing: "This recommendation is not available."
Should I create a new account?
Please help!

Inappropriate?I'm poking around to see what I can do to better understand this problem. Do you know if your and your recommendor have confirmed your emails? Have you connected recently?
I’m perplexed.
-
Inappropriate? Not sure what you mean by confirmed email. I looked through my first emails from linked in and I don't see anything asking me to confirm my email address. (I recently joined LinkedIn) I also searched "confirm email" in yout help database, and didn't find anything.
Not sure about the recommendor.

Inappropriate?HansR, thanks for your linkedin URL, that helps tremendously. I looked, and I'm not seeing any recomendations at all... no archived or otherwise. Are you certain you got recommended on this account?
I’m not certain what to do.

Inappropriate?Hi Christina,
again, assuming that my profile is:
http://www.linkedin.com/in/hansroht
here is the timetable:
Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 1:07 AM -> LinkedIn confirmation, arrives to my mailbox.
Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 1:08 AM -> Welcome to LinkedIn!
Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 1:27 AM -> Pablo Marquez has accepted your LinkedIn invitation
Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 11:12 AM -> Pablo Marquez has recommended you on LinkedIn
Note, dates are taken from my Gmail inbox, time may be GMT -3
> Are you certain you got recommended on this account?
Yes ma'am, 100% sure.

I don't think it's too difficult to track the error message so I assume you already did and you must be stepping in some kind of errorHandling class.
Well, go to recommendations module, check what happens when a user clicks on ACCEPT. Track down the code line where you are making the callback to the error handler for "This recommendation is not available."
There should be some kind of unhandled exception going on (assuming you are working with exceptions), check 'em.
If you are not working with exceptions or if there isn't any unhandled one, maybe it is some sort of "validate recommendation" improperly coded, check the logic.
If it isn't that again, i don't know... drop me a line to my personal email address and I'll be glad to assist you in the coding and debugging process.
Cheers.
P.S: LinkedIn is programmed from the scratch, isn't it? I see too many variables on the url, are you sure that sessions aren't better for this?
I’m disappointed
-
Inappropriate?Gosh, those links need a target=_blank tag on 'em...
What's goin on people, nobody knows how to code anymore? :(((
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Yes I'm a recent user that has this problem, my username is nickfritzkowski

-
Inappropriate?I'm not a recent user nor are those trying to recommend me.. my username is:
http://www.linkedin.com/in/charliecraine -
Inappropriate?Found the problem,
I re-confirmed my email address by clicking again on the link of the confirmation email, pushed the Confirm button, then logged in again.
That was it.
Now it's weird because I HAVE a "welcome to LinkedIn" e-mail, so there's no doubt that I previously confirmed myself on the very first time.
That makes me doubt about the way that the authentication systems handles the confirmed and unconfirmed users.
Hope my cooperation helped.
Cheers!
I’m very happy.
-
Inappropriate?I'm confirmed.. not only that this is the second email address I've confirmed.

Inappropriate?for my problem i been receiving more recommendations and go ok, but i have previous ones who get the "This recommendation is not available." I have confirmed my address, I'm not new to Linkedin so i don't know what is the problem and i have 8 pending recommendations like this id like to post in my profile.
here's the screenshot of what i get -
Inappropriate?I just received a second recommendation and it worked, but the first recommendation is still sitting there unable to be accepted.
I’m indifferent
-
Inappropriate? We think we *may* have a fix.. it looks like it happens when a recommendation is made before an email is confirmed, so that's why it's effecting only some of your recommendations; we think it affects fast-moving new members. We're working through confirming this is the cause of the bug, fixing it, then we'll manually submit all recommendations probably by end of week assuming all goes as planned.
If anyone is an old time member of linkedin and has been recommended by an old time member of linkedin and is having this problem, drop me a note, because it doesn't match this pattern. -
Inappropriate?Christina,
I'm the one who started this topic you'll note that i've been on Linkedin for over a year--maybe longer. I can't comment on the person who recommended me but he has been on my list for a really long time. -
Inappropriate?everyone who posts: please include your linkedin URL AND the url of the person who has recommended you, so I can look into your individual cases. ccrain, I can't note anything until I can find you in the system! :)
thank you! I want to help!
I’m getting close to a solution!

Inappropriate?Nick, your gmail address is listed as not confirmed. try to see if that helps you the way it helped hansr?
I've resend confirmation messages to both you and dave, hoping this may help. It's possible you may have to wait for us to release a fix. -
This didn't fix the problem, I confirmed and am still getting the error. "This recommendation is not available." -
Inappropriate?thanks nick, it was worth a try. We've got a fix underway, we'll see when we finish it and get it out. I'll post when we're sorted.
-
Inappropriate?Looks like there was a gmail and a second email i had to both confirm.. strange. But it is working now.
-
Inappropriate?Thanks...that worked...thank you so much...Funny, yesterday you said that I was confirmed, but I can assure you I have never confirmed my email address before now. Maybe 'cause yesterday I just gave you my name...could have been someone else. Thanks again!

Inappropriate?Thank you Christina, your help is appreciated :)
My profile is http://www.linkedin.com/in/robkoper
and the 2 people who recommended me are:
http://www.linkedin.com/pub/4/7a4/6a2 (visible in mij inbox and in his recommendation you can see he recommended me)
and
http://www.linkedin.com/pub/7/449/939 (not visible anymore, but in his profile you can see he recommended me)
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Rob, I've recent confirmation mails for both your emails, clumme and openline. hopefully confirming them will fix your problem too.
I’m hopeful!
-
Inappropriate? Two tings on your account Charlie
1. you have two emails. I've sent reconfirm mails to both, in case one of them wasn't confirmed. please check both desnews and hiponline.
2. Your account is restricted. This usually happened when you upload your entire addressbook and some people don't remember you. I've removed that. I doubt that had anything to do with the problem, but we'll see if it helps.
I’m still hopeful!

Inappropriate?I have all email IDs confirmed
-
Inappropriate?I think we might have a bug in confirmation messages. I know it's a pain, but could you resend the confirmation message and reconfirm? It would really help in tracking this down.
Reconfirming, even when it says it's confirmed, has been fixing many of these. My engineering buddy James has a fix he's working on so this won't happen anymore, but folks currently suffering should try reconfirming.
I’m wondering!
-
Inappropriate? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? Whenever i click "Accept recommendation" I keep getting the error : This recommendation is not available. My fingers are tired of retrying....Will have to try my luck tomorrow!
-
Inappropriate?Bernie:
Did you reconfirm all three emails? then retry accepting? Just wondering...

-
Inappropriate?Wonder no more! Worked like a charm!
I believe there should have been a warning message to this effect somewhere....just wondering :-) -
Inappropriate?Okay, I'm going to call this hopefully resolved.
If you have this problem, please go to your accounts and settings, and RECONFIRM all emails associated with the account. Then retry accepting the recommendations.
If this does NOT work, then please email me.
We have a fix that will go out that will prevent any new users from having this problem. However, anyone currently suffering from this will need to RECONFIRM their address.
I’m happy I done killed me a bug!
-
Inappropriate?the 2 recommendations I had still don't work, but a new one did, so I guess asking the people who recommended me to write it again is my solution. thanks anyway. It's not that there are 50 of them that went wrong, so it's not that bad. Thanks for the effort anyway.
I’m greatful for your help.

Inappropriate?were the same problem................ what happening to this website hustle
-
Inappropriate?Today I am seeing a different problem with recommendations - I have a notification that says I have new recommendation, but I cannot manage it or view it - It either goes to the old reco list or gives the error "There was an unexpected problem that prevented us from completing your request."
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I seems to have hit a similar problem. I received 4 recommendations but when I try to click on it to approve it's not there in my inbox. Did the reconfirm email address thingy, seems to work for 1 new recommendation, but I still can't get to the previous 4 which is just 2 days old. *help*
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? We have a couple theories. One is that the recommendation has been withdrawn, but that message isn't showing. that would result in a recommendation with no button to accept it.
Check under profile- recommendations, there it should list any valid recommendations waiting to be accepted. With the others, can you check with the person who wrote the recommendation to see if they have withdrawn it for some reason (for example, to write a new one).
Also, if you have a problem, can you include a screenshot of the page with the problem? this helps us immeasurably. -
checked! not withdrawn, I can read it under my profile but just can't make it public. i have a ticket (Ticket:081120-000954) filed with screen shots, please help me look into it .. those recommendations means a lot to me. thanks! -
Inappropriate? We are working on correct this bug. For now, please contact customer service. they can go into the customer service tool and show this recommendation on your profile for you.
Contacting customer service should always be your first step anyhow-- they have the tools to help!
I will swing by when we've got a fix in place.
I’m confident
-
Thank you very much Christina! I have no luck with customer service though, they have not responded to the ticket. :( -

Inappropriate? Some problem here, got a new recommendation (without me requesting it via LinkedIn) and in my Profile - Recommendations there's an action which allows to "view" this recommendation but it brings me to the Inbox - Recommendations which is empty. On my connection's profile, the recommendation he created for me is visible.
-
Inappropriate?this is getting very frustrating, just can't get customer support to even reply to my ticket (Ticket:081120-000954). Seems like they really don't care at all.
I’m annoyed!
-
Inappropriate? Is it possible the customer service reply is in your junkmail folder?
-
Inappropriate?I reported the problem to Customer Service too [Ticket:081120-001321] on Nov, 20 but no feedback yet.
Update: they fixed the problem on my profile manually now, confirming that there's an issue still under investigation.
-
Inappropriate? This is rediculous! I would like to join Linkedin as requested by a friend and find the run around stupid. Is there any sense to all this?
" -
Inappropriate?I've been having this same issue for the last couples of months, now. Here's my complaint I posted elsewhere:
"Please update me on the progress to have this matter resolved. I’m still unable to manage any of my Recommendations.
It doesn’t appear to be a local issue with my computer, as I have logged into my Linkedin account from different computers, located in different areas. I have accessed my account from my town library, and from friend’s and client’s computers. I’ve not been able access the manage area for recommendations on any of those computers.
I’m at my wits end trying to have this resolved. Please help. And it’s totally unacceptable to keep saying that the system works properly for the vast majority of users, as the source of the problems appears to reside on the Linkedin website services."
I just deleted a connection to whom I sent a recommendation request two months ago. I'm thinking that the request errored-out and caused the problem. As soon as the system allows me to resend a connection request, I'll follow up with a recommendation request.
Hopefully, I should be able to manage recommendations after that, without any more errors.

Inappropriate?I can't manage my recommendations, and when I try to accept, I get the message "This recommendation is not available." I've put in two tickets and have not received a response.
Ticket:090220-000967
Ticket:090218-001946
Meanwhile I have several interesting job opportunities that state "recommendations preferred."
How am I suppose to consider an upgrade when the site doesn't work, and they don't respond to service requests?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I can accept some of my recommendations, but on other similar ones I get a message 'this recommendation is not available". Why can I accept some and not others?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I heard from Linkedin Customer Support today; I was having trouble managing recommendations. They said they had a bug in their recommendations module and thought it would be fixed in about two weeks. They advised staying away from recommendations until the bug is fixed.
I’m better now that i know what's wrong.
-
Inappropriate?I received the same response. They also suggested asking those who have recommendations that are "stuck" to withdraw them and then resubmit. This worked with one of my recommendations.
I’m encouraged
-
Inappropriate?iam also having this same problem. very discouraged
