CAN'T ACCESS LINKED IN ANYMORE--HELP!!!!!
For the past 2-3 months, every time I get an email invite to connect with someone via LinkedIn, I click on the link in the message and after a long wait I get a message saying that the file server can't be accessed or found for LinkedIn. I use Mozilla Firefox but was able to access LinkedIn just fine via Firefox a couple months ago. Also, when I go to Google and try to access LinkedIn by searching it, I still can't get into LinkedIn website. I keep getting the same file server message.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks. Eugenia

Inappropriate? If 16 LinkedIn employees are ready to listen and respond - as it says at the top - then how come nobody's responded since Eugenia posted her problem 25 days ago? Who can provide us with just one of the 16's contact data (phone, email, snail mail, any..) so that we can ask her/him directly?
I’m desperate - can't even visit linkedin.com to email them about the problem :-((

Finn, Thanks for your reply and for helping to push on this. I still cannot access LinkedIn and their nonresponsiveness is infuriating. Eugenia -
Inappropriate?I have been having the same problem for months. Are any of you using Routers. I use Dlink and in my google search of this problem, today finally came across some posts explaining that it could be the DLink router. That said however, I tried all the suggestions and still have the problem and am very frustrated!!!

Hi SydneyT, You may be on to something here. I have had the same issue as mentioned in a number of posts on this site. Tried different browsers, and yet can't access LinkedIn past the front page without time-out. I do have a D Link router, and can access through the same router using a different computer. I will try changing routers, happen to have a new one sitting here, and see what happens. -
Inappropriate?I'm having all these issues too and Customer Service have just sent me standard replies saying 'we're looking into it'. Really frustrating. I'm using Win XP and Firefox (also tried Chrome and IE6/7...no luck).
I was using a wireless router in my setup, but disabled it...no change. Can access all other sites.
What makes me think this is something at LinkedIn's end is that last night for about 10 minutes I could access the site, changed my profile and...bammo, no more access anymore. Just times out.
I’m angry and frustrated

Inappropriate?yeah...this has been happening to me for weeks as well. i thought it was just my problem but am somewhat relieved to know there are others denied access as well...still no ideas on a resolution?
-
Inappropriate?Well, I'll just add in and say I'm having the same problem. Can't access it from explorer or firefox on my desktop, but I can on my laptop. No idea why, but linkedin is the only web site I can't access on my desktop and it's been that way for a couple weeks.
-
Inappropriate?Same problem here using Firefox on Ubuntu Linux desktop. Suprised that people have experienced this for some weeks.

Inappropriate?I finally got an answer from Linkedin Customer service. A lot of good it does...guess they don't care about those of us who can't access the site. Read below:

Inappropriate?By the way, I have noticed that when I am on the linkedin sign in page site on Firefox(under Tools) and then to security, and erase all the cookies while I am on the site, it clears everything up and allows me to at least sign in, but I cannot post or answer or email.
I’m still angry
-
Inappropriate?Sydney> thanks for letting us know. what a pathetic response that was! i'm sure if there are this many people here with the same problem there must be plenty more of us out there as well... but that would be too logical a conclusion of course wouldn't it!
I’m not happy
-
Inappropriate?Hi guys, It seems there is a common problem with this through other threads I've read. Its to do with the router (DLink Router to be precise). Ive just swapped my router from the DLink to a Thomson router and I'm now connecting at lightning speeds. Thanks SydneyT for the hint.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the tip SydneyT. My laptop and desktop are both wirelessly connected to the same router though, and yet only the desktop can't connect to linkedin. But I did find a way around it - go to http://www.tntproxy.com and at the bottom there's a space near the bottom that says "Start Browsing" where you can type in http://www.linkedin.com and it'll get you there. It's a "free proxy server". So a decent temporary solution.

why does this work?????????????????? -
too many pop ups...someone should be able to determine why the proxy issue is causing some folks a problem?!?!?!?!?!?! -
Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem since yesterday -- can't access LinkedIn from my desktop with a wireless connection. Tried the www.tntproxy.com approach Josh suggested and it works for me, too.
-
Inappropriate?P.S. The free proxy server recommended above had WAY too many popup ads. I tried www.powerunblock.com instead and was able to get on LinkedIn that way.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks everyone...the proxy server Powerunblock does the trick, but you can't load contacts etc... from there.
Also - in terms of Dlink - I did bring my laptop to someone else's house and it did not work there either. Now have to check whether she uses Dlink too or take it somewhere where I know they do not have Dlink..will let you know..thanks again -
Inappropriate?Hello all. The 2 proxy sites work and I can now get in to LinkedIn again. Thanks to all for responding to this problem. Best, Eugenia
-
Inappropriate?@Sydney: I face the same problem with Linksys but the proxies do the job for me as well.
-
Inappropriate?Ok, my brother is a computer genius - he's the one who gave the temporary solution of using a proxie, and now he actually completely fixed the problem for me and I can get into linkedin no problem. He used www.opendns.com. I don't know enough about that stuff to take you further than that, but if you need more help contact him - www.andyrimer.com

I'm new to Linkedin and have been going crazy tring to login, set-up my profile, etc...
Your suggestion regarding www.opendns.com helped my solve all my problems.
First, I upgraded my firewall firmware (linksys BEFSX41) to rev 1.52.15.
Second I signed up with OpenDNS and input their Domain name server addresses into both my computer [network] and firewall settings.
As soon as these changes where completed, all problems were solved and all pages load.
It's my guess that (my ISP's) Domain Name Server (Comcast) is filtering / blocking traffic to diff domains. I know that they (and other ISP's) added filters to block file sharing software/sites. It's my bet that Linkedin with it's heavy traffic got caught in the mix.
I suggest contacting your ISP cust service and ask for diff Domain Name Server addresses and make those changes to your network settings. (You may not need opendns)
ISP / DNS filtering issues would explain why diff operating systems, browsers, etc. all have the same issue while changing routers (or firewall) corrects the problem. This would also be very difficult for Linkedin to address as it would be a very random problem.
Thanks Josh & Josh's brother !!! -
I've used OpenDNS over my ISPs on my router virtually since its launch. Started encountering this problem roughly the same time as @Eugenia's original post.
I've emptied browser cache, tried various different browsers but still nothing. Previously I was able to login no problem from my exact same desktop using all the same settings. Despite contacting LinkedIn support direct, who have suggested everything I've already done nothing.
Maybe worth our while Twittering this issue with a link to this GetSatisfaction page to http://twitter.com/linkedin in order to get some resolution. -
this didn't work for me either unfortunately -
@rebecca I tweeted the LinkedIn Twitter account about this issue (see post at bottom), as yet I haven't received any response. This is really a poor customer service on their behalf. I can't see, how as suggested, my router is to blame as no settings have been altered, the firmware is current. -
When I updated the firmware on my Linksys firewall (BEFSX41) to rev 1.52.15, the update allowed me to enter my choice of DNS server (instead of auto signed from DHCP).
I assumed that this corrected my problem as all computers on my network connected to linkedin with no problem,,,
XP pro box 1 - IE ver 6.0.2900...
XP pro box 2 - Fire Fox Ver 3.0.10 - and IE Ver 8.0
XP box 3 (laptop) running IE 6.0
It is (of course) possible that the firmware upgrade resolves some other issue,,, NAT redirects, Java applets,,,, or some other bug in the old firmware that caused the linkedin website to hang.
I can report that Linkedin has been working for me everyday since that upgrade and for the record, my MTU setting was enabled and set to 1500 before (and after) the upgrade.
Good luck -
Inappropriate? Thanks Josh. Tried the Opendns but still can't connect to Linkedin so I contacted your brother and am waiting to hear back. Thanks a lot for the tip, Sydney

Inappropriate?SydneyT's suggestion of clearing the LinkedIn cookies in Firefox worked - for a few page views. It broke again after clicking on "Skip This" after accepting an invitation (to skip adding the other guy's company to my profile).
The fix didn't work in IE 6 on the same PC.
I have a Netgear router, not a LinkSys.
I'm wondering if there's some hidden firewall setting on this corporate laptop that's breaking LinkedIn. If I reconnect to my employer's VPN, and revert the browser proxy setting from "direct connection to the internet" to use any of the corporate proxy servers, all three browsers work correctly with LinkedIn. Or maybe it's broken with Netgear routers as well - perhaps some incompatibility with NAT boxes in general? -
Inappropriate? If it's of any help I've successfully logged in to LinkedIn using the Flock browser http://flock.com/ (which is built on the Mozilla Firefox code base) without having to go through a web proxy.
Still having problems through Firefox and have contacted LinkedIn Customer Care. -
Inappropriate?I had the same exact problem today after removing the Outlook Tool Bar for LinkedIn. I could access any website except for LinkedIn. Too fix the issue I opened a DOS prompt via run. The typed in "ipconfig /flushdns" [enter]. Now I am back in business using LinkedIn. I hope that helps you as well. ~Mark hillma1[at]hotmail.com
-
I tried your solution, but it didn't work for me. Whey I try to access LinkedIn I get a blank page. -
Inappropriate?the proxy server approach does work so thanks for that guys. still quite annoying though isn't it! Also tried "ipconfig /flushdns" but unfortunately no love there...
-
Inappropriate?i am having the sam e issue i am trying to sign up formy business and actually was able to get to the dite on my blackeberry not my desk top. I have goneover every setting for 2 days and cannot figure out why ican't get on!

Inappropriate?*Update*
I've received a reply tweet from the LinkedIn Twitter account http://twitter.com/linkedin and am now awaiting an appropriate email address.
Here is link to reply I receive http://twitter.com/LinkedIn/status/21...
Hopefully we'll be able to get this sorted. -
Inappropriate?okay...I have been in email communication with a LinkedIn person (somewhat useless by the way). Nonetheless, I was able to pinpoint this issue down to the router.
I connected my laptop directly to the cable modem and I had ZERO difficulties with LinkedIn.
What I don;t understand yet is "Why?" didn't my connection via my neighbors network perform? Different router...I am assuming there is some incompatibility with specific computers, routers, and LinkedIn.
I believe I will try a replacement router to see what happens...more to follow.
I’m continuing my LinkedIn journey
-
remember, my son's Vista system works (with LinkedIn) thru the same router! -
Inappropriate?I FOUND MY FIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
updated router's firmware, reset the router with all computers in house 'off', restarted my computer first...bang, it works!?!?!?!!?!?!
I still don't understand why it didn;t work via my neighbor's wireless network, but I really don't care because I have spent way too much time trying to fix this issue!
Thanks to all that post....good luck with your fixes! -
Inappropriate?I've been having the same problem for a couple weeks: Desktop computer easily connects to and navigates Linkedin, but my wireless laptop wouldn't even get to Linkedin's homepage, even through neighbor's router. Problem began around the time I upgraded to IE8. After deleting cookies, I was able to get to the homepage but could not navigate beyond there. I reverted to IE7 and updated my Airlink router's firmware to no avail. I'm hesitant to use a proxy server as suggested by some mostly because I don't understand it. Any sure-fire suggestions? Have I provided enough info?
-
Inappropriate?Jay is correct. Adjusting the MTU settings should resolve this problem. If you're a PC user, you need to contact your ISP or router manufacturer to find out how to adjust the MTU settings down.
If you're an Apple user who is having problems loading the site, try this page:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2532 -
Inappropriate? There is an off chance that an improper sign-off the last time you accessed Linked In could be blocking you now. (Don't ask why. I don't know.) Try accessing your account from another computer by going to the Linked In homepage and then using your email and password for the sign-in.. If that works, log-off, then log-in and log-off again on that computer. Then see if you are still blocked on your computer. Hey, that's what phones are for. It worked for me.
-
Inappropriate?Same here, I am in India, and am using MTNL's (government) ISP services.
I could easily access LinkedIn few months ago, but face a problem now.
As a respite, I am using www.tcp6.com as a proxy server, but that doesnt give full functionality...
I had posted about my problem on Twitter from where I got a personal mail from LinkedIn. Now, I will post link of this page to them in reply and lets see what they do..

Inappropriate?I logged on to my LinkedIn account from someone else's computer, then logged off from that computer. After that,I was able to log on from my own computer. Don't know why it worked.
I’m satisfied.
