Control over where the temporary synth files are stored...
It would be great if you could change the directory in which the photos are initially synthed, my system drive, for example, doesn't have a lot of extra space for big synths, just enough for it to run a normal page file....

Inappropriate?You can direct Photosynth where to store it's temporary files by setting the TMP environment variable. The easiest way to accomplish that is to create a shortcut with the following target:
cmd /c set TMP=D:\ & "%PROGRAMFILES%\Photosynth\pswebclient.exe"
(assuming you'd like Photosynth to use the root of drive D)
