Install, Install, Install. I keep trying, and it keeps asking me to do it again!
I try to install Photosynth, and the installation process seems to work fine, except when I click to see see the synth IT ASKS ME TO INSTALL AGAIN. I've done this three times, and it's always the same. Help!

Ok, I fixed my problem. I uninstalled Photosynth then I deleted any reference to Photosynth from the following registry keys:
HKLM/Software/MozillaPlugins and HKCU/Software/MozillaPlugins
I reinstalled Photosynth and it's working now.

Inappropriate? If you're seeing this in Firefox one possible issue is related to our release last year. If you ran our previous version (on labs.live.com) then you may need to do this:
Go into
C:\program files\mozilla firefoz\plugins
Delete 2 files:
Seadragon.dll
Nppsynth.dll
then try again on photosynth.net

Followed Jonathan's advice and this fixed it for me. I had also previously deleted the Regkeys that Jwish suggested. Not sure if you need to do both. -
Inappropriate?I tried deleting them. Closed my browser, restarted it, got install page.
I tried reinstalling Photosynth after doing this. Also closed & restarted browser. Got install page again.
I tried uninstalling Photosynth. Also closed & restarted browser. Reinstalled Photosynth. Got install page.
Tried clearing my cache, restarting browser. Still no luck.
Tried using IE. It worked, ActiveX installed, but then CTD'd after going back after playing with the Taj Mahal synth.
Tried disabling the plugins. No luck.
The plugin's still there in Tools > Addons > Plugins, the 1.0x, and a 1.1x version.
SW: XPSP3 completely patched, IE7, Firefox 3, firewalled, clean system behind a NAT router, running AVG, and user knows how to manually detect malware using procexp, and manually clean it out too...so it really is clean. lots of services & Word 07 running, but nothing that should cause this sort of behavior...
HW: athlon x2 4400, 2GB ram, sufficient HD, 256 mb gfx ram on a ATI X1800XL
Plz advise. Thanks!

Don't get me wrong though, minor install issues aside, it's a great app and quite an achievement; I mean, turning a set of 2D images into 3D automatically? That's sci-fi stuff, or so I thought... If you guys keep it up, a few years down the road, the program might even be able to create geometry and solids, heck, 10 years from now, maybe it'll even be able to extrapolate shapes. It's a great thing you're doing. -
Inappropriate?I'm having this issue too. I was running your beta in Firefox from last year. I deleted the files, reinstalled but still have the same problem. 2 Photosynth plugins are listed, 1.1.0.602 and 1.1.0.10683. I've tried disabling them but no luck. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Inappropriate?Hi.
Had this problem too. Solved it.
It appears that when you have FF installed to a custom location the photosynth-plugins will not work.
What I did:
first: exit Firefox. Then
go to C:\program files\Photosynth
and copy
npPhotosynthMozilla.dll and
seadragon.dll
to your Firefox-Plugins folder.
This worked for me.
Do remember: when new versions of Photosynth come out, remove these 2 files from the plugin-folder before you install the new version!

REVISION OF MY POST !
After some playing around with a rather strange addon I had to replace my Firefox3-Installation with a backup, so I tested the other approach to the Photosynth-Problem, and it worked !
Here is what I did:
(CAUTION: please be sure you know what you are doing, else ask a geek friend for help. In any case create a 'System Restore Point' in Windows *before* making any changes to the Registry!)
1. exit Firefox.
2. in the Firefox3-Plugins-Folder (us-en standard installation location is C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins\ - a custom install location, or with other Windows-Language-Versions may be somewhere else) delete the files: seadragon.dll, nppsynth.dll, npPhotosynthMozilla.dll and nsIPhotosynth.xpt if present.
3. within the Windows Registry: in HKCU/Software/MozillaPlugins/ and HKLM/Software/MozillaPlugins/ delete the "Folder-Keys" referencing Photosynth (named like: "@microsoft.com/Photosynth,version=...").
4. If you have the new Photosynth Version installed, reinstall or repair the Photosynth-Installation (with the new Version on course).
5. go to http://photosynth.net/explore.aspx and check if this had worked for you. (it did for me).
Happy synthing!

Inappropriate?Hi,
If you're having problems on IE, you can verify that the activex control (IE web plugin) got registered correctly. Run regedit and edit->find then fill in the text "PhotosynthActiveX.dll" and their should be an entry like :
47EEE655887629242825B8712E7C59A2 = "C:\\Program Files\\Photosynth\\PhotosynthActiveX.dll"
If it isn't getting registered or is pointing to a non-existant path then we have the culprit.
--peter -
Inappropriate?I see plenty of references to the .dll, but I don't see any thing like "47EEE655887629242825B8712E7C59A2 = "
-
Inappropriate?Hi Joe.
Where does it say the .dll is located? (i.e. "C:\Program Files\Photosynth").
Does that path actually exist? -
Inappropriate? The dll is right where it should be ("C:\Program Files\Photosynth\PhotosynthActiveX.dll"), and that's right where the registry keys reported it to be.
-
Inappropriate? And is there a registry key with CLSID (long number I posted above)? You could try running regsvr32 on the DLL and restarting IE and seeing if that works.
-
Inappropriate? There doesn't seem to be a key with the number, as I posted above. I'll try regsvr32 now...
Ok, when I enter "regsvr32 PhotosynthActiveX.dll" from the "C:\program files\photosynth\" directory, I get an error: "The module PhotosynthActiveX.dll was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005." -
Inappropriate?Ahh, ok - you have to be using an administrator account inorder to register the plugins ; is the account you're using in the local admins group?
-
Inappropriate? To be clear, I am logged in as an administrator and have full privileges.
-
Inappropriate? It's a two step process. After you install the download look for the ActiveX control. After I installed both it worked butifully.

Inappropriate?Hi, same problem but with Vista and IE. Looked at the registry and I have the following under "app id" {C7AA2134-1CD6-40ca-935C-F64779BD1C20} and the dll is in c:program files\photosynth. Tried regsvr32 which returns a message that the dll failed to load. Could it be that the clsid is wrong? Can any one help please?
-
Solved it, just realised didnt activate the control doh!!! -
Inappropriate?I got the same prob with IE - BUT it works in FF - is the program trying to tell MS something about its browser?
-
Inappropriate?okay - i've run PhotosynthActiveX.dll via regsvr32 and i also get the error msge "The module C:\Program Files\Photosynth\PhotosynthActiveX.dll was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005" i am running vista with admin privileges
I’m confused

Inappropriate?Hi all;
re Vista and IE
Following my previous post, I solved the problem. In my case, despite having security levels med-low and protected mode off in IE the activex control required enablig. I did this by right clicking on the on the bar and choosing the option. I guess you could also set photosynth as a trusted site. Worked imediately after enabling the activex

what bar was that? -
Inappropriate?Hi,
I had the same issue on IE 7. Tried all these regedit and dll stuff. Nothing worked. Installed Firefox, works like a charm! -
its the yellow one that appears at the top of the page. It should only appear once, so if you've already accepted it this won't be the problem. -
Inappropriate?Hey, if anyone from MS is listening, I'd love to embed some synthed pictures on my company's website but if my customers can't install Photosynth properly it'll make my company look stupid - please can you fix the install problems that many people are having with IE7
-
Inappropriate? While I could not successfully install and use IE7, Firefox worked, sort of. Once a synth was playing, any attempt to stop it resulted in a lot of gobbledygook. (I had installed while in IE but then could run under Firefox.) Commenting was virtually impossible since it accepted one character every minute or so.

Inappropriate?Nice idea, let down by (the usual) crappy installation/registry/reboot/still won't work, with no indication why. Pathetic!
I’m fine thanks, but livelabs software sucks.
-
Inappropriate?I never got the yellow information bar saying about any file download or activex download... you'd click on the install 'button', the screen would refresh back to the same page... nothing happened at all.
In the end, I used FF to download the package, installed it locally and then I could access the site properly using IE7 or FF3. -
Inappropriate?I realize that many of you are having some other error which I do not understand, but for those of you who are asking what the yellow notification bar looks like in Internet Explorer, I am enclosing a screenshot.

If you will look at the very top of the page, between the browser controls and the page itself, you will see a pale yellow banner that reads: "This website wants to run the following add-on: 'Photosynth IE Plugin' from 'Microsoft Corporation'. If you trust the website and the add on and want to allow it to run, click here..."
You need to click on this bar and choose "Run Add-on".
I’m bummed that so many people are having problems when it worked perfectly for me on every computer I've tried so far.
-
As many people have said, no banner is appearing - (I'm bummed as to why people don't read previous comments) -
You misinterpret me. I did realize that it was not appearing for some people. My screenshot was only to offer a concrete example of what to look for so that people who may have overlooked it could solve their own problem, and those that did not have it appearing could then move on to other solutions offered here, since there seemed to be several different problems with several different solutions.
Cheers. -
Okay, thanks Nathanael -
the yellow banner con ́t show -
the yellow banner only show one time, and the web don ́t install the program, how can i get the plug in?, i Use windows XP SP2 -
Inappropriate?XP Pro SP3, FF3.
I've spent about two hours trying all of the various steps above in, I *think*, every order there is. I've given up for now. I'll watch this thread to see if someone comes up with a solution -- otherwise I guess I'll wait for the next generation of the technology.
I’m annoyed that I couldn't figure it out.
-
Inappropriate?Same problem here. I've tried removing the reg keys, removing the dll's (after a normal Add/REMOVE Program), then reinstalling. I never get the Active X yellow bar (I know what it looks like, but it never appears during the installation). This is in FF3 on XP SP3. At work, I installed on Vista Ultimate, and it works fine in FF3, but not on my home computer. Annoying in proportion to how intriguing Photsynth is.
