Missing photos after Seadragon Ajax export in Deep Zoom Composer
I have successfully output a composite-photo containing 30 photos using Seadragon Ajax as composition in Deep Zoom Composer. However, when I use 96 photos to compose my composite-photo, the 1st time, the output composite-photo contains only 6 photos!!!!! I output the project second time, the output composite-photo contains only 11 photos!!!!!
Another example, 96 photos in the output preview, ONLY 3 lef after output to Seadragon Ajax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really want to use Deep Zoom Composer. BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks in advance for any help.

Inappropriate?Hi Melinda,
Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, it is still not working. I already had .NET 3.5 SP1 installed. So, I installed the updates (3) and reboot my pc. And then I tried to output to Seadragon Ajax again. Still only 9 out of 96 photos are present. By the way, if I export as a Silverlight Deep Zoom collection, all the images (96) are present. Since I need to use "The Embed The Viewer" (in order to embed the images at my blog peterchanphoto.com) at
http://livelabs.com/seadragon-ajax/em...
which ONLY support Ajax. I still need to find a fix for Deep Zoom Composer to output to ajax.
Anyway, thanks for the help.
Regards,
Peter -
Inappropriate?Hey Peter,
Actually -- if it exports all 96 images using the Silverlight option, just stick with that. Both the Silverlight option and the Seadragon Ajax option share the common output of the images. So just upload the images, under "GeneratedImages", and point the Seadragon Ajax embed to http://path/to/your/GeneratedImages/d... file.
Let me know if that doesn't work! -
Inappropriate?Hi Aseem,
Thanks for the help. It didn't work. I followed your instructions and the "Embed The Viewer" system responded:
"Sorry, we don't support Deep Zoom Collections!"
Peter -
Inappropriate? That's actually a good sign (though you might not feel that way at the moment). Seadragon Ajax can only use it if you export it with the "Export as a composition (single image)" button checked.
Can you try selecting that option instead, and then following Aseem's steps? -
Inappropriate?Hi Melinda,
Thanks for the help!! I have the "Export as a composition (single image)" button checked, and the result is 10 photos out of 96.
Peter -
Inappropriate?Yikes.
Would you be willing to send me your photos and the output that you got so that I can try to reproduce the bug myself and debug it? I'd love to get to the bottom of this one, but I think I'd need to see it in person in order to do so. -
Inappropriate?Hi Melinda,
I am so glad you continue to help on the issue. I have 3 projects waiting to put in my blog. By the way, what files do you need and how I can set them to you.
Thank very very much!!
Peter
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Ideally, I'd like to take a look at
- the original 96 images
- the Deep Zoom Composer project
- one of the GeneratedImages folders
I realize that that's a lot of stuff, so any of it that you can provide would help.
You can put them on my Skydrive: http://cid-e02c98bde1c1ea8c.skydrive....
If you don't want the world to be able to see these, I can give access to just you, but I'll need your email address for that. -
Inappropriate?Hi,
I went to http://cid-e02c98bde1c1ea8c.skydrive....
There is no indication of of adding files. Also, I look at my Skydrive which ask me to upload file by file not a folder. My deep zoom output is 60.8 MB and contains 20,011 files. (my original photos: 109 photos 37.9 MB) Also, I prefer to keep the files as private and my email is peterchanws@hotmail.com.
Peter -
Inappropriate?I find the deep zoom project folder: 712MB 27,361 files.
-
Inappropriate?Hey Peter,
I'm not sure whether Skydrive has any limits to how big of files you can upload or not (I haven't used it myself), but one thing you can do to make your life easier is to zip them up so that you only have to upload one or a few files.
For example, try zipping up your original photos (37.9 MB) into one zip file. Then the Deep Zoom Composer project should be just another file. And then zip up the GeneratedImages folder (the one that's generated with not enough photos). Is that doable?
Thanks for your patience through this. =) -
Inappropriate?Hi Aseem,
The upload limit is 50MB per file. What do you recommend for the project file which is ~700 MB after zip.
Thanks for the help and Have a nice weekend.
Peter -
Inappropriate?Ah, by project file I wasn't referring to the entire project folder, but rather just the *.dzprj file. That, along with a zip of the full "GeneratedImages" folder and a zip of your original photos in the "Source Images" folder, should be all we need. Thanks!
-
Inappropriate?Great! I have just uploaded the dzprj and the "Source Images" folder. Thank for your patience for dealing with a non-technical person.
-
Inappropriate?Great! We'll take a look after the weekend and get back to you. Thanks for your effort and patience through this! Hopefully we can get this issue resolved for you soon enough.
-
Inappropriate?Just a quick update for you, Peter - I've been able to reproduce your bug, and I'm working on figuring out what's going on.
-
Inappropriate?I wanted to check in and let you know that we haven't forgotten about you - we're working on a fix. I'll keep you posted about it!
-
Inappropriate? Thanks. I have several projects waiting for your fix so that I can publish in my site.
-
Inappropriate?Hi,
Any timeline for fixing the problem? It is a pity that this bug make the "The Embed The Viewer" useless. I think many people would like to output to Seadragon Ajax and embed the composite photo in their blogs (like me!)!!
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Any updates?
-
Inappropriate?Since Deep Zoom Composer works under Silverlight Deep Zoom output as multiple images, could you provide an example (detail coding) of how to use host the resulting images if I am using Wordpress hosting in GoDaddy.com?
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Hey Peter,
Sorry that we haven't responded in a while -- it's been a super busy time as we moved offices and had to meet our end-of-sprint deadlines. We're still working on this bug, and hope to have a fix or a workaround soon.
I don't have any experience with WordPress, but I'll ask around and see if someone else can help with that. Thanks again for your patience!!
Aseem -
Inappropriate?Great!!! It is excited to know that someone is still working on a solution.
Thanks!! -
Inappropriate?I have installed the Jun 2009 version of Deep Zoom Composer, however, the problem STILL exist. Do you think the developing team does NOT consider this is a problem??!! Or is there anything I missed?
Thanks for all the help.
-
Inappropriate? The short answer is that we couldn't get the fix in on time for that version. We're definitely aware of the problem, and we aren't happy about it either!
-
Inappropriate?Hi Melinda,
Thanks for the update. I hope the fix will arrive asap.

Inappropriate?Images are still missing when output Seadragon Ajax!!!!!!!!!
I am using Windows 7. I have uninstalled the old version and install the new version. Any other things I have to do? -
Inappropriate?Did you open your old project and re-output it, or did you re-run the whole thing?
You may have to rebuild the project, unfortunately- that's how I tested it. -
Inappropriate?I still see July 2009 release under "About Deep Zoom Composer" and not release 1.0. Is the post at
http://blogs.msdn.com/expression/arch...
the latest version. Anyway, I will rebuild my project now.
Thanks -
Inappropriate? You're right. I think that blog post might have the wrong link in it.
We're looking into it now! -
Inappropriate?OK, here's what's going on - the Microsoft Downloads site doesn't change URLs for different versions of Deep Zoom Composer. So when both of us went to that link, we got an old, cached copy of its installer, because we'd downloaded it before.
If you empty your browser cache, restart your browser, and then download it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/de...
You'll get the latest one, and everything should work for you. -
Inappropriate? It works!!! Just running longer than expected (70 minutes for a 104 images composition). Anyway, it works.
Thanks for following it through.
Peter -
Inappropriate?Glad to hear it! The long run is actually part of the fix - what's going on in there is that we try to do something the fast way, but sometimes we can't and we run out of memory, so we fail over to the slow way instead. It's not as good, but it's a heck of a lot better than what it WAS doing.
I’m very happy!
-
Inappropriate?Hi Melinda,
I have used Deep Zoom Composer & Embed the Viewer web service to create more than 10 photo compositions in my site peterchanphoto.com. Take a look when you have time.
Thanks for your effort to resolve the problem.
Regards, -
Inappropriate?Hi Aseem,
Thanks! I took all the photos when I travel to those countries. With the use of digital camera, people tends to take a lot of photos. I thing deep zoom composer is the idea tool to let people browse and look into details if they wish.
I also have to thank you to help to resolve the problem.
Peter

Inappropriate? This is a fantastic use of Deep Zoom! I love how the compositions highlight the color scheme of your photo sets.
Thanks for sharing, Peter!
