Photosynth does not install error code 80071a30
I have been in contact already with a Microsoft support professional on trying to resolve the error code 80071a30 problem and have carried out many tests and scans but with no success. Please advise. Regards, Jeff Byers (jeffbyers1@msn.com)

Inappropriate?Based on the screenshot, it's failing while trying to install the Visual Studio 2008 C++ runtime. Can you try installing the runtime first (you can download it from Microsoft here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/de...)
And if that succeeds, try running the Photosynth installer again? -
A good suggestion and Bert's prompt reply is much appreciated but did not solve the problem that generates the error code 80071a30. I have searched the Microsoft Knowledge Base and also Google with no success. This problem also prevents Windows Update Installer being able to install updates successfuly and same error code is returned. -
Inappropriate?Hi Jeff, I'm still digging for information on your exact error, but I did get a pointer to this blog on MSDN that covers several different scenarios where the Visual Studion 2008 C++ install can fail. Can you take a look and see if any of the scenarios apply to your situation?

Inappropriate?Hi Jeff, I've been communicating with some internal support people and have been told that this log file would be useful for our debugging of your problem. Could you email it to me (address is bert.molinari@microsoft.com).
Thanks!

Inappropriate?I am googling for help on error code 0x80071A30 also. However, I have stumbled into this dark hole via Windows Update. WU will not update my Vista x64 system. I've gone through three rounds with a Microsoft Support Pro, but to no avail yet. They have yet to suggest reinstalling the C++ redist.
Interestingly, I tried to update my Avira, and it wouldn't work. Amongst many suggestions to remedy that, someone on Avira's forums also suggested reinstalling the Visual Studio 2008 C++ runtime. Seemed like I could kill two birds with one stone. I tried but that runtime installer also errors with the same esoteric error code 0x80071A30!
I would love to solve this. I fear there be dragons in my systems innards... :) -
Inappropriate?Hi alphadogg, could you send me the log file at: %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log? I've been in contact with some other people at Microsoft that know more about these kinds of install issues than I do, and have been asked to get that log file to help with troubleshooting.
If you can, send me that file via mail (my work address is bert.molinari@microsoft.com), and I'll forward it along and we'll see if we can get this one solved! -
It is 16-10-2009 and I am in the same situation as above user. Getting trouble with Norton Ghost 14 an WU not able to install any update. I will send you this log file is available. Have you found any solution to this problem? -
It is 16-10-2009 and I am in the same situation as above user. Getting trouble with Norton Ghost 14 an WU not able to install any update. I will send you this log file is available. Have you found any solution to this problem? I suspect this happened after a restore when I got hit by viruses. Had more troubles to be able to WU after restore, but this was solved after a bit of Googling and using suggested remedies. This one is however more serious.
The cbs file is very large(34 Mb) so i will cut a lot out is it older than about a month(actually all before 80071a30 started appearing) and hope this will shrink it enough. -
This appears to be a problem with Windows in general, and not something that we can really help with unfortunately (Windows is a much bigger product that we can support on Photosynth :-) )
I would recommend contacting Microsoft support for help with this.
