Wake up the Lazy Susan
Hi; I just built my turntable.
I was very disaponted with my first try "running 01-1" only 21%; even with a black background (Photoshop) I got only 23% ; Was it a to complicated object?
I tried more simple with some writing on the object (food can) and under it (a printed paper); OK I got a 100% (1 synth) with "food raviolis 01" and "food nuts 01"; I should be glad;
But;;;
I tried to recenter the pictures (with more contrast), got a 100% in "food nuts 02" but it's working wrong now, swaping from one side to the other one.
Why? Can you do something about that?

Inappropriate?Hi Pierrot, could you point us where your synth is?
-
Inappropriate?As writen in my message, the synths are called:
running 01-1 , running 01-2 , food raviolis 01 , food nuts 01 and food nuts 02
They are taged with lazy and suzan, and you get them too by my name 'Pierrot21' -
Inappropriate?In food nuts, the edges of the logos from the front and back of the can are very similar in the edges. These types of symmetries confuse the matching. By cropping the image, you removed a lot of the texture on the paper which had helped it disambiguate the symmetry in the 01 version. The ravioli can doesn't have this symmetry so works better.
In running, the object is fairly textureless. The majority in the image variation in the running images comes from occlusion edges (the edge of the body against the background), which changes appearance as you move around the object. The synther likes to lock on to texture that is on the surface of the object (if the figure had a textured body it might work better). -
Inappropriate?Hi; thank you for reading, viewing my synths and answering.
I allready had an idea about what you answered, ant that's the reason why Imade these tests (black background, ugly can, ugly printed paper); I was looking for the limits.
I had a very bad night ;-((( (I'm joking!) and got ideas for new tests: running 02-1 with colour on the arms and an object with texture; and running 02-2 without the object. (tags: lazy, Susan, running)
I had great hope and great pleasure by seing running 02-1 successed to a 100% but .... it's a disaster and nothing works!
Running 02-2 got only 20%, and 5 synths.
The idea is: by creating a synth, we could tell the program it's a turntable work, and the chronology of the pictures is important to merge / synth / create points from one picture to the next one: pic1 with pic2, pic2 with pic3 aso.
In the next Photosynth version ????
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I'm glad you are enjoying Photosynth! Knowing that it is a turntable sequences are not trivial to add. The best thing to do is to not use a turntable and instead walk around the object--move the camera, not the subject. That way the background and the subject move according to the same rigid transformation relative to the camera and reinforce each other. Texture on background or subject can be used as opposed to the subject having to have enough texture to override the background.
