Why is this not supported by Mac OS Leopard?
I'm starting a new topic to emphasize how important this is. There is no reason for it- none what-so ever. If it runs on firefox, it should run on any OS. When will this work on Mac OS Leopard?

Inappropriate?iansilv, we want this to work on the Mac. We're hard at work on it. Your comment about there being 'no reason' isn't entirely accurate. The difference between firefox and IE is just in the wrapper around the plugin (FF plugin vs. ActiveX control). The guts of the viewer are identical, which is why we were able to ship with Firefox support from day 1. This isn't the case between PC and Mac. The Mac uses OpenGL for 3D graphics, which is a radically different API than DirectX, which the PC uses. In other words, major parts of the viewer app need to be rewritten to run on the Mac. This isn't just web code! If we had had the manpower, we would have developed both versions simultaneously, but we didn't. I feel your pain, and know this doesn't help your frustration, but you should realize that making the choice to do our intial release PC-only was frustrating for us too. We're not happy about excluding potential fans from the experience.
I’m anxious for us to ship the next version

Inappropriate?I second that question...is there any expected date when Photosynth will be compatible with Mac products? I'm dying to be able to explore Photosynth!
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Photo Synth looks like a fantastic tool to teach, share experiences etc. It is a product that I would pay for, but alas, I too am a mac user, along with everyone in our household. I realize the technical restrictions between openGL and DirectX, so I encourage the team, and it's Microsoft supporters to develop for a product that supports the rest of the world. The team has build a great product - congratulations.

Inappropriate?I saw your talk (Blaise) at TED and it was fantastic. I assume that running Firefox on an Intel Mac with most versions of XP (Parallels, Boot Camp) would probably work? thanks so much

Hi, Tony. Just wanted to point you in the direction of Jonathan's post regarding current Mac workaraounds via virtualization etc. -
Inappropriate? If you are porting the coding to OpenGL, will this mean linux support, too? I know a large number of fellow users that would absolutely love to be able to run this on their machines. Open-source would be nice, but I do realize that Microsoft does like to keep its software patents to itself. I personally think this whole project is brilliant, and look forward to its future.

Scott, maybe what I'm about to link you to is outdated but I haven't come across any updates.
Another user asked about Linux compatibility a month ago and Blaise replied right below that post. I would say that the picture looks somewhat grim at the moment.
If you really want it then I think that you should start a petition among Linux users who want to see Photosynth on their boxes and give Live Labs some evidence that the demand is out there. -
Inappropriate?i agree! suely the mighty microsoft could spare a few more employees to work on something like this.
i, as well, would like a projected release date for the mac version.
I’m feeling impatient

Inappropriate?Mac version available NOW via Silverlight 2.0 - visit Photosynth.net and agree to try the Silverlight-based 'beta' version. Yes, works right there in Safari.

Blaise - awesome project!
I’m happy (now)

Inappropriate?Ok, great, now we have a revamped Mac viewer, but still absoulutely no way to create a synth without a Windows PC. The reason I even bother to bring this whole thing up in the first place is that I am hoping to get a Mac-Compatible version that I can actually use to make synths. Just viewing them is like less than half of the website's purpose.
I'm still impatient and annoyed.
I’m still thougoughly annoyed, still impatient, still left out.
