Don't disable web accounts
Is there a way to disable "suspending" the web account when the handset is not used to update the information so much?

Hi there,
Right now there isn't a way to disable "suspending" the web account.
Loopt has a number of security and privacy features built into the service. One of these features is web lockout if the mobile version of Loopt isn’t in use. This security mechanism can’t be disabled.
Thanks for understanding.

Inappropriate? This should be re-thought out. I'm often in areas, for days at a time, where cell coverage is spotty, at best. (I can generally send/receive emails from my Blackberry, but any extensive data transfer fails.)
There needs to be a better balance on this issue...
And what is the rationale behind limiting web access? If your phone doesn't have coverage, you shouldn't be able to use the service?

So today, (in a major city with better coverage) I opened Loopt on my Blackberry, updated my location, and pinged a friend. 5 hours later, I try to log on to the web site, and it says my account has been disabled because I haven't logged in recently on my cell phone. 5 hours according to Loopt, when I opened it on my cell phone to enable my account. This is absurd (and hopefully a fluke). -
Inappropriate?"This security mechanism can’t be disabled." Huh?????
Sure it can! That's why we must enter our password for web access!!!
I think at least some compromise is needed here.
1: More time allowed before disabling.
2: A warning stating that you have 3 more Web logins left before the account is disabled.
3: Or some other additional security to allow more web access.
Getting disabled when my cell is out of range without any warning is absurd!

Inappropriate?I absolutely agree that this policy is riduculous!!!! The only reason I purchased this plan was so that when I leave my phone somewhere (which I do periodically) I can go online and locate it!! The salesperson even told me this was a great feature for that purpose. I will be returning the phone and cancelling my service since I won't be able to find the phone online unless I actually have the phone with me??? STUPID!!!!

Inappropriate?I think the turning off of the web capabilities is counter-productive. I appreciate the action with regards to account security but convenience for the user is decreased. I didn't use Loopt on my phone today because I was at home all day, and I don't want my home location displayed on Loopt. Yeah ...I know I can go online and delete it but it's easier just not to use loopt when I don't want to post my location. I'm still new at loopt and learning. Nobody I know is willing to try Loopt, so for me it has no functionality greater than a personal log anyways.
Maybe you could add a routine on your website for those accounts that have been temporarily suspended...where you could send a text to the phone from the site as an additional method to turn back on the website. One that could turn on the website for the user without updating their Loopt location by clicking on a link sent to the phone via sms.
As to Julie....the salesperson should never have sold you on Loopt as an phone location application. That's clearly not its function and never has been. It's too bad you were misled.

or if not a web link to send a "turn back on web" sms to phone, how about allowing user to send an sms to loopt with "enable web" as a message. just a thought.
