Is Loopt Mix a standalone app or standalone service?
So I downloaded the new Loopt Mix app this morning, thinking it would provide a deeper level of functionality to the Mix service on the core Loopt app. When I fired it up, it asked me to create a Loopt Mix profile, and that it would pull the profile data from my existing Loopt account (screenshot 1). As soon as the process was done, my profile was created, but some information was missing and updates posted to my profile via the Loopt app and PC website were not showing up on the profile on Loopt Mix.
I deleted the profile, and checked that all of my personal information on Loopt (email address, phone number, etc.) were up to date since i switched to a new iPhone with a new phone number a couple weeks ago. Once everything was verified to be updated, I had Loopt Mix create the profile again, and it generated a blank one (screenshot 2).
So, the question I have is whether or not Loopt Mix is supposed to be actually pulling my information from my Loopt profile and the updates I post to it like the old basic version of Mix used to, or if updates to Mix have to be done in the Mix app. If so, it seems far too redundant to me, rendering Loopt Mix an app/service feature that's going to sit unused.
I understand that the new iteration of the mix feature is in beta, so I don't know if I'm experiencing a bug or if this is actually the way it is supposed to work...

Inappropriate?Hi,
Thanks for the post! The behavior you experienced is by design. Loopt Mix is now a separate application and service. Before, there was a Mix tab in Loopt that you could enable in order to create a separate, public profile from your regular Loopt profile. To more quickly add functionality and features that Mix users requested, we created a separate application called Loopt Mix that replaces the Mix tab in Loopt. To make this new standalone Mix application transition easier, we offer to transfer over the Mix profiles of recent Mix users.
In sum, the standalone Loopt Mix application allows you to create a public profile and interact with people near you. The traditional Loopt (non-Mix) application allows you to connect with friends you already know and have added to your friend list. You can then share additional information with them if you choose like exact location, journal entries, etc. Basically, use Loopt Mix to meet and interact with new people, and use Loopt to share even more info with your trusted friends.
Hope that helps explain things!
Chris

Thanks for the clarification, Chris. I recently read about the nearby activity stream to Loopt Mix, and I think it's a great addition. The one thing I think Loopt Mix could benefit from would be the option to push Loopt updates from the main Loopt service to the Loopt Mix profile if a user wants to do so. Exiting one app to update the status on another when both are services from a single source is a bit redundant..
