Loopt (Iphone) location and GPS (via maps) location are different. Why?
My GPS location and my Loopt via Iphone locations are different - Im in the 91321 zippy code and for some reason it had me 15 miles North. What's up with that?

Hey everyone, we've just released an update for Loopt on the iPhone. Please check the app store for the update. We think we've fixed the issue with Loopt reporting a location that is very different than what the Maps app reports. Check it out and let us know how it goes!
Thanks,
Aroon

Inappropriate?I have this same issue. Sometimes I am just a few blocks away and sometimes I can be half way across the country.

Inappropriate?Hi guys, we're apologize for the inaccuracies! We've just bought a handful of iPhone 3Gs ourselves so we're going to do some testing and look into this problem. We'll post back here as soon as we figure something out. Thanks for sticking with us!
I’m confused about why the 3G works differently than the 2G

Inappropriate?I, too, am getting different locations comparing loopt to the maps application (as if loopt wasn't using gps or something) and eventually it wouldn't update at all after going to a different location (other side of Portland). So I would try to close loopt and reopen it and it says it is locating for about three seconds and then says I'm at my last location, but I'm not. So I shut off the iPhone and started it again and then loopt found my general location, however, it was still only using the cell towers and not gps, so then I went into maps and got my exact location using gps and then I switched back to loopt and it was there, my exact location.
Also, it would be nice if I can keep the comments private to the person I intended them for (shouldn't be running my mouth about people who can read the comments ;))
Anyways, I love loopt and can't wait for all the great versions in the pipeline!

We appreciate the detailed note about the issue. This will help Aroon and the developers with figuring out inconsistent areas. Please stayed tuned to this forum, or if you'd like, send an e-mail to me at min@loopt.com with subject "shortlist - location - GetSatisfaction" to get notification of when this location issue gets resolved. Best, Min -
Yeah..it seems confirmed. Loopt barely finds my location on it's own anymore..so now when I want to update my location, I find it in the Maps application and voila!, it shows up in Loopt EVERYTIME.....It's an iPhone 3G in Portland, OR (If that helps any). -
Inappropriate?Hello,
I have the original iPhone and I find that when I am connected to the EDGE it locates me just fine but if I am using a different carriers towers ( ie.... the blue box with the E in it on the top of my phone is a blue box with a dot in the middle) it puts me in russia. weird huh. I don't know if there is anything to improve that since I haven't gotten the new phone yet but I'm sure the info is important. Thanks again! Oh I live in the sticks. podunk nowhere alabama. northeast corner 40 minutes from huntsville. huntsville is the only place arround here with 3G access.
I’m waiting for my new phone.......patiently.
