Inappropriate?Bryan,
Loopt is looking into supporting the Pre, but we don't have any definitive plans or timelines we can share at this time.

Any update on the Palm Pre support? -
Is there some place we can check to see if there's a status update on this? I certainly wouldn't have called this question 'answered'. Maybe is not an answer. -
Palm Pre > Blackberry. Still waiting on a Pre app! -
Inappropriate?lol i love loopts but seems to me it would be a great service if the app
did not have to be developed for each individual phone when they came out i just got a pre after waiting for ever for it on the instinct and all my friends had phones not supported so i had no friends to add on it. Honestly untill you make the app on a platform sort of like pandora where damn near any phone made in 2008 and above can install it lootp = fail but ill install it when it finaly comes out for Pre when ever that day is.
-
This is definitely true.Probably not the greatest of ideas to make an app that isn't portable and needs to be customized for each phone. We've been waiting forever for it to be released on each phone and so few people are able to use it on some of the more popular phones that it is making it almost pointless to install if half your friends can't use it themselves.I wonder if Loopt is regretting this business strategy right about now LOL -
Admittedly, a music streaming service like pandora is nowhere near as sophisticated as something like loopt, and doesn't require near as much access to the low-level API's. It would be much more difficult to develop a loopt solution as "universal" as the pandora app, although Andrew Lee poses a convincing argument. Loopt doesn't seem to be a tremendous "for-profit" endeavor, though I could be wrong, so I don't see what the quibble would be with involving third parties, at least in the initial stages of development, to determine if it's even worth developing for a particular platform. Even a miniscule monetary prize for the best implementation of it would be better than nothing. Developers like money...and they have kids to feed. :D -
Inappropriate? It would be really interesting if they opened an API to developers who would be interested in working on a Loopt port for each of the platforms. Not saying they need to open-source, but if there is a significant developer community, then it might work.

Inappropriate? It's obvious that Loopt has no plans to support the Pre. Read the company's official response above carefully. No definitive plans or timeline? The company supports over 100 different phones, spread out over every major US carrier, so it appears that "everything but Pre" is the more correct response. The APIs exist, because Palm built in easy access to "Location-Based Services" and it is used by several different apps that already exist. If a guy can build an app that looks up the zip code you're in based on your GPS location, or Yelp! provides an app that provides local reviews based on your location, Loopt should be able to provide an app that reads your location and reports it back to their servers without too much trouble.
I’m disappointed.

You know, I really enjoyed loopt when I had the Instinct, but I fear you may be correct. There have been some very sophisticated apps made by individuals that don't even own a Pre using only the Emulator. There's no reason that loopt couldn't have churned out SOME sort of implementation of their software by now. -
Inappropriate? You guys should be exctied by this news... from everything pre, GO READ!! =)

I’m anxious

That was an old post. Most of the apps highlighted didnt see the light of day on launch day, some are only web-apps, and Loopt along with SlingPlayer are being "evaluated". -
Yah, I realized that like 20 seconds after I posted... It's frustrating... -
Inappropriate?C'mon Loopt! This is a pretty easy platform to program on. Dont you guys have a decent HTML/CSS/Javascript programmer there? Its not that much harder then that. There are Location APIs that a bunch of developers have already used successfully. There are a bunch of poorly mediocre apps that are location aware, why cant you put one together? Seriously...
I’m frustrated

Hi JP - Loopt does not have plans to support the Pre via a native client at this time. That's subject to change, but no definitive plans right now.
Chris -
Inappropriate?Seeing how easy the Pre appears to be to program it (no, I'm not a programmer), and by judging how long the Pre has been out (which has been joined with the Pixie), it appears that Loopt for the Pre isn't gonna happen, which is a shame for us Pre users that Loopt folk just doesn't seem to care about loosing this many customers.
I’m disappointed
-
Inappropriate?Oh well. Thanks for nothing. I can't believe it took six months to decide you had no plans to program for the one device that's "so easy even a caveman can do it"©
I’m Giving up.

Inappropriate?http://getsatisfaction.com/foursquare...
That's an example of a company that WANTS their product to be received by as many people as possible.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Chris, wasn't there, at some point, a Loopt API dev program? I believe that's how the Foursquare app is being developed...
I’m undecided
