Inappropriate?signed up, downloaded the app and it seems to work just fine... earlier, i noticed that the mobile app took a long time to refresh the changes i had made on the website through my desktop pc.... seemed to only be a temporary issue though.
i just got a buddy to sign up, but he is unable to download the application to his curve. he said he clicked on the link from the text message and the loopt page loaded fine in his phone browser.. then, when he clicked on the "click to download loopt! FREE trial!" link, he gets "HTTP Error 500: Internal server error" and if he clicks to view the details, it says there was a Java IO Exception. He's on BES and I'm on BIS so I didn't know if that would make a difference... I asked if he had ever tried installing 3rd party software and he said he had installed google maps... so i told him to try doing a battery pull and try again.... haven't heard back from him since then. has anyone else experienced this prob?
I’m undecided
-
I have the same problem, signed up and got the download link and now when I try the link I get the same exact error. I am on T-Mobile with the 8820 and have downloaded a ton of apps OTA before with no problems. Any ideas on how to get this installed on my device? -
Inappropriate?Hi Rob, Thanks for trying out Loopt!
I think your buddy is running into the issue b/c of the Curve. We'll be supporting the Curve very shortly. We'll let you know here when it's available, or if you'd like, send us an e-mail at blackberry@loopt.com w/his e-mail contact/phone number and we'll put him on our list.
And please also send your mailing address to the same e-mail so we can hook you up with some schwag!
Thanks!
Min
I’m looking forward to the curve coming out
-
Inappropriate?you've got mail... as i mentioned in the email, turns out my friend has the 8830 world edition and not the curve.
another question... is loopt supposed to always be running in the background in order to provide location information to the loopt service (and thus, to friends, facebook, etc)? seems to be easy to exit the application (no confirmation message)... if the application must be running on the phone to "work", i would think a dialog should prompt you when you "back" out of the app... "If you exit, you will no longer be providing real time location data to your network"... etc.
Just an idea ;)
Rob
I’m studying... how happy could i really be? ;)
-
Inappropriate?Rob, nice comment interested to see the answer.
One thing I noticed is that it uses a lot of text messages especially when you start pinging your friends.. I would like to see the option for a bb pin or plain email for notification. Some of my friends don't subscribe to text but do have the bb basics. Also Some don't have text due to it being a business account.
Other than that it worked great on my last business trip and I needed to time a hookup with a co worker at another location with no real time frame set. He just watched for me to get close ( I was about 70 miles away)With this tool we were within minutes of arriving at the location. He set the option to tell him when I was 25 miles away then left. Nice buisiness application.
I’m liking what is see
-
thanks for the thoughts, Scott. yes, you're right, those text messages do get quite hefty. the team here is listening and we hope we can give users the option of pushing messages to e-mail or SMS in the future.
it's great you found the friend alert feature useful! it's one of the first ones the team built into the app and we're glad you like it!
btw, please send an e-mail with your mailing address to blackberry@loopt.com so we can hook you up with some schwag. :)

Inappropriate?Hi all,
The Curve on Sprint is now available! Other carriers coming soon.
Go to https://loopt.com/loopt/sess/Signup-s... to register!
As always, appreciate your feedback.
Cheers,
Evan
I’m stoked that the Curve is out.

Inappropriate?1.Did you run into any trouble during the registration process? About how long did it take you to register? it took longer than expected but only slightly using the bb browser since the site isnt mobile friendly
2. What were your first impressions of the service after logging in? seemed okay def need more people to make it worth it.
3. What features did you check out? Any immediate likes and dislikes? i thumbed through as many as I could find. cons: having to use bb browser for non mobile friendly site and no immediate gps pickup why would i have to input my address? isnt the point for the app to find me via builtin gps?
4. Did you invite friends? If yes, how many? I invited 2 friends since they are teh only ones with 8120,8830s once more phones become compatible i will be sending all invites.
5. Did you link up your mobile account with Facebook? Was it easy to do? FB app: http://www.facebook.com/apps/applicat... I did link the account and it was quick and painless well as painless as any other facebook app, really liked that feature.
6. Any other thoughts on how we can improve Loopt? again make the site mobile friendly.
7. Please send an e-mail to blackberry@loopt.com with an address where we can send you schwag! and done.

I’m going, yay!
-
note, as of today, 6/30/08, we are no longer supported on the Alltel devices listed above. :( -
Inappropriate? So far I like loopt. It is a usefull app and it is friendly to my Pearl. Keep up the kreat work and any time you need a Beta Tester LET ME KNOW.
I’m happy
-
Thanks, JonnyVideo! If you have other Blackberry enthusiasts who are also interested in trying out Loopt, let us know! Also, please send us an e-mail at blackberry (at) loopt.com so we can send you some schwag. -
Inappropriate?I may be a corner case but it wasn't trivial to install the application for me. Registration was fine. It took me ~30 minutes to register, most of which was spent reading the privacy policy. Downloading and installing the application, however, was a different matter. I can't do over-the-air downloads to my phone because I don't have a service book for the default Blackberry browser. I use Opera Mini instead, which doesn't have the ability to download files. Instead, I had to use my laptop to emulate the user agent of the Blackberry browser in order to get the .jad file that the download URL redirects to. Still using the laptop, I downloaded the 4 or 5 .cod files that the .jad file referenced. These were manually transferred onto the flash memory of the Blackberry. The .jad file was finally executed by using the Media Browser's "Explore" menu item, and the application was successfully installed. This process could be simplified by providing an archive of .alx & .cod files (and instructions!).
First impression: polished & snappy. Nice choice of font (or did I choose that in the system prefs?). The help popup indicated that to zoom you should scroll left and right, and to switch between friends you should scroll up and down. My intuition is that those axes should be switched. Also, press "o" for help? Or is it "0"? Why not "h"?
When I tried to call someone from my contact list inside the Loopt app, the app became unresponsive and an image artifact remained on the screen when I switched out to another application. The phone had to be hard restarted. I suspect that the Blackberry OS may have been trying to ask permission for the Loopt app to initiate a call, but was unsuccessfully in bringing forward the dialog. The shape of the artifact may have been the same as the permissions dialog. Restarting the application and asking the phone to remember when I grant permission to the application made the problem go away.
The ping-to-AIM function is a great idea, but the "See where I am" link that was sent did not give the recipient a map of my location. Instead, it pulled up a map of what seemed to be a default location in SF, with 5 markers that advertised the featuers of Loopt.
Finally, I wish the "Start typing to edit..." dialogues didn't have to bring up a whole text entry box that covers the entire screen (which also discards the first character you type).
Specs: Blackberry 8830 (Sprint), v4.2.2.176/3.0.0.76
I’m a cow.

Thanks for taking the time to give us such incredibly thorough feedback, Moo! I'm sorry the download experience was so rough.
I'd like to connect up with you over email so that we can 1) send you some schwag, and 2) learn why your phone doesn't have a ServiceBook for the BlackBerry web browser. We'd definitely like to improve the process for users in your situation.
We hear your feedback on the map and text box stuff - those items are already on our to-do list. We’ll dig into the other issues you mentioned as well.
Send us an email to blackberry (at) loopt.com, and let’s talk.
Thanks,
Fred -
Hi Dorian, don't be sad :-) We're looking into supporting that device now. It's a bit tricky, though, as the Pearl on T-Mobile doesn't have a built-in GPS. If you want, you can send us your email address to blackberry (at) loopt.com and we'll put you on a notification list - don't forget to include your phone model. -
I'll be upgrading to the new 3G iPhone once it comes out but I'd like to be able to try out this new service in the meantime. -
Inappropriate? Here is my problem in detail. I have a T-Mobile 8820 that I have done other OTA downloads with successfully. I am on BES and when I hit the download link in the message I was sent I get a 500 error. When I click on details I get the error:
Loopt.jad
java.ioException: Resource could not be found http://dl.loopt.com/TMobile/Blackberr...: 406 - Not Acceptable
Any ideas on how to get Loopt installed, I'm really looking forward to using and recommending it...
G -
G, Would you mind shooting us a quick email to blackberry (at) loopt.com so we can connect up? I'd like to try something to see if we can't get you up and running. Just mention that you're G in the email, and I'll follow up. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?I hope this is out for Verizon soon... I dont see how, as they dont have their GPS open (even though my blackberry has the GPS chip in it). Maybe you guys worked something out with verizon?
-
Inappropriate?Trying this out on my ATT 8110. Seems pretty good so far. One problem I am having is getting an image to upload using the 'Add a photo' option to share what's up. I click on add a photo, then take a photo which activates the camera, take the photo, then nothing seems to happen. Any ideas?
I’m unsure
-
Hey Scott. Once you take the photo you have to press the back key a couple times to return to the thumbnail picker, at which point the photo you've just taken should show up. Let me know if that doesn't work for you. -
Forgot me mention I tried that - and just tried again - it sits there and says 'loading...' After several minutes I cancel. Does it take longer? -
Inappropriate?Gotcha, Scott. Looks like you've hit a bug. I'd love to get some more information from you over email, and hopefully we can get to the bottom of it. Would you mind shooting me an email at fpotter (AT) loopt.com? We'd really appreciate it! We could send a t-shirt your way as well. Thanks!
-
Fred - sent the email yesterday - let me know if you did not receive it. Thanks -
Fred - sent the email yesterday - let me know if you did not receive it. Thanks -
Hey Scott - I just tried resending the email and it bounced. Do you have another email address I could reach you at? -
Inappropriate?Loopt isn't working for me. I have an AT&T/Cingular Curve 8310. Latest Loopt application (3.1.2 I think). Network appears to work fine (I can surf and use twitterberry w/o issue). But, when I try to log in, I always get a delay and then a network error message in the login window.
I want to try this - any suggestions? Thanks and have fun! - Bob
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? There is not a way to link my facebook to loopt in the blackberry app for the Curve 8310 on AT&T. Must this be done within facebook per the earlier link? At least that I have found.
Setup and use seemed very straightforward, however I was a little concerned about the invite friends thing so i've decided to wait for my friends to invite me.
Are there plans to link Loopt on the Blackberry to my Twitter? I haven't found a non-kludgy way yet and I really don't see any usefulness for AIM linkage as I'm not a heavy AIM user. Blackberrys and Twitter go together (to keep with Get Satisfaction's cupcake fetish) like cupcakes and icing. :)
I’m awaiting twitter support
-
Inappropriate?Any word yet on support for the T-Mobile 8120? Definitely waiting for it!!
I’m waiting for 8120 support!
-
Inappropriate?Overall, a very nice job. Loopt does a lot of what I am looking for in an LBS app. I like the Twitter integration and the built-in journal a lot. (I actually don't have Twitter integration running now, but I do like that there's a choice, and Loopt has duplicated Twitter functionality enough that it's not a big deal to have two journals. No problems either installing the Loopt client to my BB or linking to my facebook.
1) The Blackberry keyboard shortcuts (press spacebar twice for a period, etc) do not work in the journal entry. This is annoying for BB users because we're used to doing it.
2) As of now (with the 3.1.4 BB client) I cannot upload a picture I have already taken to my Loopt journal from the Blackberry. Instead it just opens the camera. Most users are going to want to upload an already-taken picture.
Those are the two biggest things. Battery life is always an issue, but obviously all those GPS updates come at a cost. Also, it would be nice to add friends from facebook to my BB loopt -- right now I can see friends on there who aren't on my BB loopt.
I’m happy.
-
Hi Kurt, thanks for the helpful feedback. Your points about shortcuts and uploading pictures from your BB are helpful and I've communicated them with the team.
Also, we are working on a solution to help you add facebook friends! We're pretty excited about it and are glad you brought it up!
If you would like some Loopt schwag, please send me your mailing address at min@loopt.com, and we'll get you hooked up!

Inappropriate?Any chance on a verizon storm ver, since the gps is unlocked?
-
Inappropriate?i don't think it has been determined whether the storm's gps really is unlocked. i would absolutely love to believe that was true since i just switched from a Pearl on sprint to the Storm on verizon, and a couple of my most used applications were so useful because of their ability to incorporate the GPS into the functionality of the program. so far, i haven't seen anything definitive confirming (or refuting) that the storm's gps is unlocked. i'll keep my fingers crossed!
p.s. MIN! you never answered the email i sent you a week ago! punk! j/k ;)
Rob
I’m hopeful, but not overly-optimistic
-
The Storm is still quite a ways off. Development for new touch screen devices is rather intensive. In addition, we're still working with Verizon to hopefully be able to support BlackBerries on their network. -
hey rob, thanks for the shout out, haha. i can't seem to find your e-mail.. :( can you resend? thanks! -
The storms GPS is unlocked, i can confirm this, as i am typing this on a storm -
Inappropriate?I am trying to download the application to my BB 8830. I have the text message that contains the link to download. When I click on the link, it takes it awhile then it comes up with an error message "Connection Timed out" Any suggestions?
I like the online version of this though. I would just love to actually be able to download it onto my phone.
I’m getting through it
-
Hi,
That's strange. I think the link might have expired. There's a time limit on the verification links. The other thing you might check is that you have a good connection to the data network wherever you happen to be when clicking on the link since it will send out a data network request. To get a new verification link, try re-registering via the website on your computer. Go to www.loopt.com and click on Get Loopt Now. Fill in the info again, and it should send you a fresh verification message. Send us an email at support@loopt.com if it still gives you trouble.
Thanks,
Chris -
Inappropriate?I have at&t blackberry curve and a friend of mine put loopt on my phone... i really like it but we cant figure out how to log off loopt on my blackberry...any ideas???
I’m alittle frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hi Rachel,
On the BlackBerries, most people just choose to Hide in the location sharing settings when they want to stop using Loopt for a while. To completely logout of Loopt, you'll need to turn off location updating. Go to Loopt, then Settings, then Location Updating. Change it from Automatic to Manual, and then when you leave Loopt, it will fully log you out. If you want it to ask you to login each time, you can also tell it not to save your password in the Settings.
Thanks,
Chris -
Inappropriate?I have been unable to download loopt to my BlackBerry Curve 8310 on AT&T. I get "Sorry, it looks like you have an unsupported device. We don't support every phone on AT&T yet, but we're working really hard on it. Please check back with us soon!" I recently upgraded my BlackBerry OS to 4.5. I don't know if that could be the problem or not.
-
Hi Casey,
If you email support@loopt.com, I can email you a link to download the 8310 version of the application. It's possible that you may have an earlier version of the Curve that doesn't support GPS, but we can give it a try to find out.
Thanks,
Chris -
Inappropriate?1.Did you run into any trouble during the registration process? About how long did it take you to register?

Inappropriate? Will Loopt be coming out with an App for the Blackberry 8900? if you need a beta tester I would love to help!
I’m excited
-
Hi,
We'd love to support the 8900 and hope to do so soon. If we need a tester, we'll let you know. Thanks!
Chris -
Hey I wanted to let you guys know I downloaded the Blackberry 9000 (BOLD) Loopt program on my Blackberry 8900 works perfect.. -
Inappropriate? Will Loopt ever be compatible with the Blackberry Storm?
-
We hope so! We're not yet able to support BlackBerries on Verizon yet, but we're working on it. Thanks for letting us know that you're interested in this device.
Chris -
Inappropriate?I have a blackberry 8310 (with AT&T) and for some reason it will not accept my password. I have no problem logging onto the website on the computer with the same password. What is the problem?
I’m frustrated
-
Hi,
Please send support@loopt.com the mobile number that's listed on the login screen in Loopt on your BlackBerry, and we'll see if we can figure out what's going wrong. Please also copy and paste your description of the problem above into the email so that I can reference back to this post.
Thanks,
Chris -
Inappropriate?I would love to have loopt on my blackberry storm. I had it on my lg dare and i miss it
Anychance on a beta release of a blackberry storm version?
I use google lattitude now, but my friends with iphones can't. -
Inappropriate?In answer to your questions:
1 no problem with the registration process.
2 the app looks great. The options are easy, the design rocks.
3 checked out the map and personal information.
4 I invited my wife. Just the one friend right now.
5 have not linked to FB yet. Plan to soon.
6 would like to see Mix for the berry and an option to keep loopt running in the background on ESC by default.
7 Email sent.. :)
I found this app on my wifes LG Lotus and loaded it on my Berry as well.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?1. Everything ran smoothly when I registered.
2. I was impressed and thought it was convenient to let certain friends know where i am
3. DISLIKE: My blackberry 8900 (carrier T-Mobile) will not relocate where I am. Instead it just refreshes forever and never changes the location. *SOBS*
4. Yes, majority from my phonebook
5. It was very easy to connect with my FB
6. Please!!! Fix loopt to refresh and relocate my blackberry!! :(
7. Please send an e-mail to blackberry@loopt.com with an address where we can send you schwag!
Thanks!
I’m sad to not use it's fullest feature of the loopt
-
Inappropriate?Hi Min,
I have been trying to use Loopt on my blackberry since last week but have not been successful. I do have a login id and password to get access via the web. I did get the text message for the download link and it appears I successfully downloaded Loopt but I did not get any confirmation message. And, when I enter in the url for loopt it takes me directly to a download page only. Also, how do I turn on "Location Updating?" -
Inappropriate?Hi Ron,
On your BlackBerry's main menu, is there a round blue icon for Loopt? That will tell us if the application installed successfully or not.
Thanks,
Chris -
George - We hope to be able to support the 8350i in a future version of Loopt, but none of our current builds will work with it at this time.
Chris -
Inappropriate?Storm support!! It's been out for over 8 months and the gps is not locked!! Whats the deal?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Bummer! Got my Storm today and was all ready to jump on Loopt with all my friends... guess I'm double whammied: Storm and a BB on Verizon. dangit.
I’m disappointed.
-
Inappropriate? When is support for the Storm coming? I can run the app in Compatibility mode which just isn't the same user experience as on trackball-based devices.
-
Inappropriate?Honestly I am dying without Storm support. I had an iPhone and was able to get out of an expensive contract due to knowing someone and I really want to have loopt on the Storm.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Still no storm support....Please please get a version for the storm I am going crazy!!!
-
Inappropriate?I just downloaded Loopt for my Verizon Blackberry Tour. No matter what I do, Loopt places me in the middle of San Francisco Bay. Google Maps can get my street location down to 10m accuracy..
I’m frustrated
