Hi Everyone,
Just a quick update from Loopt. We've almost got the problem resolved and will push the fix soon. The crash occurs if there are contact entries without names. To temporarily work around the issue, try adding names to any contacts that don't have names and then try adding/inviting friends again. We apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused and will push out the fix ASAP.

Inappropriate? Thanks for your feedback! We've been able to replicate the issue you described by attempting to invite a very large number of contacts all at once and are working to fix it now. If possible, can you please send an email to support@loopt.com letting us know exactly what steps you took to cause the crash? For example, did you tap the "Who's on Loopt?" option in the lower right corner first? Approximately how many contacts are you attempting to invite at once and how large is your iPhone's contact list? We'd really appreciate any feedback you can provide. Thanks for all your help!

Inappropriate?I have the same issue. I just tap "List" (second icon from the left on the bottom) then tap "Invite Friends" and it crashes. Same thing happens if I click the "+" button in the upper left. I don't see a "Who's on Loopt?" option.

Btw, my iphone contact list is ~300. -
One last thing...the "List" at the bottom has a red circle with an exclamation point. Not sure what that means. -
Inappropriate?same exact problem here

Inappropriate?Loopt have been AMAZING about resolving this. I got an email back from them in minutes with this same answer. And here's another tip:
I figured out that I (we) should have been listing contacts without individual names using the "company" check box in my Address Book. This resolved my Loopt issue completely.
Also, the easiest way to find which contacts are listed without names is with the MobileMe online address book. They show up at the top of the contacts list, as "No Name" so it's very easy to find them and delete them or use the "company" check box. -
Inappropriate?I had the same issue as well, however all of my contacts have a name in them (at least a first name or last name) or are marked as a company. This should fix it right?
Well, I am still getting crashes in my Loopt application. I already tried general troubleshooting (deleting and resyncing from my computer) and I just want to verify that this issue will be fixed even though i am experiencing it in a unique case (or so it seems).
Thanks!

Inappropriate?Hi,
I am a brand new user and I am trying to add my wife to my friends list and vice versa. Apps are crashing upon touching the Invite friends link on both 16GB iPhone 3Gs that we have.
Yesterday I was able to get SMSs sent one direction but the receiving side crashed.
Your workaround doesn't work at all for me.
This is not a very good intro to your system.
Please let me know when it is working and I will try again.

Inappropriate?I have re-installed the application on my iPhone, went through and double-checked my contacts list. I had some SMS sites in my address book, such as Google SMS for easy use, but deleted that and no luck
I’m still frustrated

Inappropriate?I had some contacts entries there were just phone numbers. Clearing those up resolved my crashes when clicking on the Invite Friends link.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Chris, it's not a good idea to use SMS to recieve location because it will cost user their text messages usage. I suggest you find an alternative method, such has GPS via 3G.
Please let me know. -
Hi. Not sure if you're referring to me or not (Chris at Loopt). Loopt doesn't use SMS to receive location. We use GPS, cell tower triangulation, and WiFi to obtain location fixes. Those fixes are reported to Loopt via the data network, not SMS. Let me know if we can answer further questions at support@loopt.com. -
Inappropriate?Well.. a lot of third party reviews and customers are complaining that Loopt spam SMS. Isn't this true?

I think the issue to which you are referring is addressed in our latest blog post. You can view it here: http://loopt.typepad.com/loopt/2008/0...
