$150 map updates for Magellan Maestro GPS.
I received an e-mail from Magellan thanking me for being a customer (bla, bla, bla) and then it informed me that there was a Map update for my GPS (2008-2009).
I am thinking to myself wow this is great, free updates...
I get to the website and I find that the update is $150 after shipping and taxes.
... I SEE SOMETHING TOTALLY WRONG WITH THIS ...
My GPS unit cost me $195 (normal standard price), WHY would I spend $150 on a MAP when I can buy a new and better GPS with updated maps build in for the same price.
And for the heck of it the map software is probably only 1.5GBs so Magellan could simply charge $25 and let people download it just like all other companies.
I am totally disappointed...
Next GPS will be some other brand that does provide free online updates or better service than Magellan...

Inappropriate?I have been told that if you call Magellan's "Magic" sales hotline the Map update cost only $85 with shipping and handling. The problem is that this "Magic" number is not promoted on Magellan's website and it is not listed as a customer usable number.
SO, would someone from Magellan come clear as to what the heck is this and where can we call...

Summer 2009 Map Update is another $79 just for an "update" which may or may not include your city or geographical area....
I am still disappointed... -
Inappropriate?upset that the Model 4040 I purchased uses maps that are so outdated that it tells you to take a slight left on un-named road instead of the proper exit with road name. The road has been changed for approximately 10 years. Very outdated and then want payment for updated maps. I should have bought a different, updated brand for a little more money. Still would have been less than what I paid and then add the update. They don't care about keeping customers! Or customer referrals!

Inappropriate?Radio Shack & The Source have a Sony NV-U83T for under $200 in special (normal price $400). The maps are 2008-2009 (according to the sales rep.)
It has a bigger screen than most Magellan GPS and better sound...
something to think about... for the holidays... -
Inappropriate?Live and learn!
I agree. Why pay $150 for updates when TomTom has a cheaper, and for what I see, a better product. Next GPS would be one with free updates.

Inappropriate?I would like to cremate Magellan...
I’m thinking of breaking Magellan's non-existant backbone...
