"Quick View" assets in 'Script View'
In the Script writing view, the 'Uploads' column is awesome. It's exactly what I personally think has been missing from film and television script writing formats for...ever.
Now that I'm using the tool, it's becoming apparent how useful the collaboration process will be when having anyone from clients, production company colleagues or crew members peer in on the script/storyboard environment.
To further the collaboration experience in the script view, I propose a additional display, menu bar or row of thumbnails that could hold additional 'sample' clips' for quick reference while writing or going over a published script with others.
If there was yet another checkbox row in the files viewer that was labeled something like "quick view" i could upload various files to the file view and then tell them to show up in this new dedicated area when I switch to script view.
Let's say there is Writer of a short film about fishing on a lake using Market 7. The Producer (also on the team) may choose to put strictly story board images in the right column of the 'script view' as to respect the Directors choices for framing the camera on the day of the shoot. However, if there is a pre-production conference call with the Producer, Locations Manager and Production designer on the phone reviewing the Market 7 script all at the same time (probably WebEx or similar) the Producer could have set up the 'files view' for that script ahead of time and checked boxes for a casting video for the lead, a google maps satellite view of the mountain lake location and a couple photos of props that were just emailed in by the art director who is in a prop house with an iPhone snapping pictures.
In script view, the entire group can read through scenes and see the storyboards the the director will loosely base the framing on. The Producer and play a video clip of the proposed lead actress screen-testing the catch phrase line. In the same meeting, the Producer could show the overhead view of the mountain roads to the lake so the Production Designer and the Locations manager can decide on the length of the boat to rent based on the storyboard concept for Scene 5B where the actress speaks the line "Gonna need a smaller boat".
All of this on one page of the script on one efficient conference call! Simply enthralling...
If something else pops into the Producers mind, one click to the files bin, one click on the file asset checkbox and back into the script to show a screen grab from the video of the custom fishing rod that is being built built by the prop maker.

Inappropriate?I've added this story and the other idea to the list of "user stories" that need to have some design and visual mockups created.
Thank you so much for your detailed post. I really appreciate the antidotes
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Brent,
We do not yet have the 'events and milestones' part of our SW yet but if we did, would it solve the problem to create an Event around this meeting you are talking about. Within the event, you could tag as many comments, discussions, files (including script versions and annotated video files) in any order. You then send the event link in your WebEx send or email.
All invitees click on the link and see the same list of files, comments, etc., in the order you specify. Even if you didn't WebEx, you could be certain everyone was looking at the exact same list and simply go through them top to bottom?
How would that play for you? -
Inappropriate?I think this sort of list within an Event would be useful for some types of meetings. When the Events section unfolds later, I think using the idea of a list specifically tailored to a meeting will be very useful.
The "meeting" I was describing above is more limited to just a read through of the script.
It would be useful to just simply have the ability to dynamically call in additional image or movie assets into the script view with the express purpose of helping expand the visualization of the printed word.
In my experience, during a script read through, the director or producer needs to spend a lot of time showing other imagery or supportive media/documentation in order to properly convey the bigger picture of the project to cast and crew. Often depending on how is being spoken to, the additional visuals will change or explanations will come from a different angle. Director/Actor discussions are very different from Director/Crew Member discussions; both utilize the same script though.
Most people don't have the ability to visualize exact details based on a written description. Everybody always says "just show me and I'll get what you're talking about".
This 'Quick View' feature in the script mode would allow a director or producer to "just show" some quick detail to the reader of the script to help explain a concept or give a visual to a description that may not really have a place in the scripts 'Media' column.
