Limited Upload Speed and Poor Audio Quality
What's up with the limited upload speed? I'm maxing out at less than 30KB/s - that's insanely slow. I have an episodic show that I'd like to use your system for and I need decent quality but the h.264's I'm uploading are only a few hundred megs. Also - your encoding settings for audio are pretty bad - the h.264's I've uploaded had pretty solid sounding audio - whenever they are transcoded on your end the quality goes way down. Is there a way to allow us to upload a pre-encoded video that won't be transcoded? (basically just let us encode to whatever settings you're encoding the flv for your player)
For us - the audio is super critical - it's a music based show.

Inappropriate? Thanks for using our service and for engaging with us on Get Satisfaction.
We agree that 30KB/s is too slow for getting video files up. Our system actually should not be imposing upload speed limitations. I just uploaded a 5.5MB file to check conditions and it went up in less than 30 seconds, consistent with the upstream speeds of my current network connection. It was then available for play (trancoded from AVI to Flash) from the vid.M7 service a little more than 30 seconds after the upload finished.
Sorry to impose, but if you haven't already done this, could you please reset your network connection, try uploading again, and confirm you're still having this problem, and if so also try to send a large email or some other activity that would indicate how your general upstream connectivity is performing? If it seems our uploading is slow despite other upstream activity being fast for you, one of our engineers can follow up to further recon this soon.
As for transcoding and video / audio quality, there are some specifications that tend to work better than others. But I'm probably the least expert person at Market7 to guide you on that. One of my colleagues will jump on this thread soon with insights.
Historically, as you write, we've allowed for upload of native Flash video without transcode, but frankly that scheme of ours has hit a snag or two of late, which is in fact our current top agenda item, so we hope to have substantial improvement within a few days. With resolution we'll append this Get Satisfaction thread + post to our blog about what are best encoding schemes to upload to our service for highest fidelity video and audio playback. Most likely we'll have at least one suggestion that plays back at the same quality as the content that's uploaded.

Inappropriate? On the question of format, there is a certain "copy of a copy" situation when we transcode. That is to say, if there are artifacts in the audio or video quality because of compression, these will be magnified when we re-encode to make a watchable flash video (.flv). Sometimes, the original seems fine but some unnoticable issue below the surface bubbles up when we re-encode and things suddenly look or sound terrible.
If you are having audio quality issues, a first step to check is by creating an uncompressed version (for testing you don't need the whole video, just a snippet). Quicktime uncompressed video/audio is a good choice. Upload the uncompressed version and you *should* see a dramatic improvement.
If you upload an uncompressed version and you still have a noticeable audio degradation from the original, then there is a real problem that we should dig into. Please try this at your convenience and let us know the result. We pride ourselves on our responsiveness to our customers. If we are causing an issue, we will want to solve it.
I sincerely hope this improves your experience. You can also give us a call directly or send an email to support@market7.com (of which I am on the alias) and we can more fully dig into this issue with specific information, files, etc.
