Any ideas on how to get GIF files playing in MS. Plays on 3 PC's, but not on the main media PC
I can play any GIF files on all three PC's via MediaShout, except on the one I really want it on.
I have the latest K-Lite FULL pack installed (also tried K-Lite Megapack). I run Vista Ultimate on this laptop. They won't work in v3 or v4. I have created a lot of GIF files using Xara3D, and those same files will play on the other 3 PC's, but not on my laptop.
Any ideas. Is it some security setting in Vista?

Inappropriate? Are you inserting as a video or as a graphic?
Is the Xara3d installed? (It might just need to be installed for them to render correctly).
I'm not having any problems with test gif files.... -
Are you running Vista though? Is anyone having success with GIF files in Vista? -
Inappropriate?I've tried inserting them as a video and a graphic. And I've tried firing them direct from Philo in v3 or Files Deck in v4. Yes I do have Xara3D installed.
The error message I get is... File C:\path etc\filename.gif cannot be loaded.
Any other ideas? -
And yes, I've tried other GIF's apart from what I've just created myself. I tried some GIF's other people have created in other programes. -
Inappropriate? Also just to clarify, GIF files will play in IrfanView and FastStone image programs etc from that computer, just not in MediaShout.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the info. I'm checking w/ my developers... hope to hear back later next week on this. It's got to be a dll issue... just don't know which dll to blame (yet).
-
Inappropriate?Did you find someone with the same problem on v4 running Vista?
-
Inappropriate?Nope. Why? It's not Vista related.
-
Nathan, it's just that GIF's play fine on our 3 XP machines but not on our Vista one.
But are you seeing some issues with playing GIF's. I guess you must be, as you mentioned a faulty DLL. Are you saying it can happen on XP or Vista? -
Sorry for the confusion:
Animated GIF files play fine for me. What's going on is that the file(s) needed for playback of the Animated GIF files are missing or broken on your machines.
Has v3 been installed on your Vista machine? If not, please install and let me know if v4 suddenly plays the GIF files... if it does, the files are missing from v4.
I don't know that I've tested animated GIF files on a clean version of v4... -
Hi Nathan,
Yes I have both v3 & v4 on my Vista laptop. I have had a clean reinstall of Vista about 3 months back to fix an unrelated issue. Then put v3 & v4 back on. -
Inappropriate?I actually have the same issue. Don't usually use GIFs but saw Kens post and tried Gifs in version 3 and 4 and all I get is a static background. I am using Vista Home Premium. They all play fine in Media Player and Quicktime but not in MS. I posted this earlier on Ken's other thread and realized that it should actuallty go here. Don't know what codec controls GIF playback so don't know if it could be a codec issue

Inappropriate? You probably have, but did you try playing gifs other than the ones you recently created?
-
Inappropriate?Sorry John, I missed your post.
I've tried other GIF's than what I've just created using Xara3D. I've also tried some older GIF's other people have created in other programes. -
Inappropriate?I think it might be machine specific. I have no issues on any of the machines I've tested on.
Did it work before you installed the font creator? -
Inappropriate? This seems to be resolved now. Now sure in which build as I haven't tested for a while. But they all seem to go now.
Many thanks. -
Inappropriate? Now I'm confused. GIF files no longer work for me in build 131. They worked in the previous build.
