Once a month I email 1000 of my closest friends. Got a problem with that?
Once a month, I send a one-page email to 1100 clients and colleagues, using MS Mail Merge to link with a Contact folder in MS Outlook. Other than that, I am a very undemanding customer with a nothingburger website that gets almost no traffic, and not much demand on the email system. My supplier since October 2005, Dreamhost, suddenly decided this spring to block all outgoing email if I exceeded a quota of 100 emails per hour. I probably don't need $60 per month dv service. Is there a way to throttle down outgoing email so my once-a-month email to 1100 clients go outs reliably, without quota bouncebacks, even if it takes 3 or 4 hours to process all 1000 emails?

Inappropriate?Hi Thom!
With the (gs) Grid-Service plan you can send up to 50 per minute and 500 per hour. You can work around this restriction easily by throttling your email sending rate. Depending on how you send your emails out, this would be accomplished in a few different ways.
If you are just sending this email through your desktop email program, you can split the mailing into smaller chunks and send them manually to stay within the threshold.
If you want to, you can set up something like phplist to manage your mailings for you. I do recall phplist having a feature that lets you throttle the sending rate, so you can easily set it to stay within the 50/minute and 500/hour rules and walk away to do other things.
Here's a KB about the sending limits: http://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/6...

Have an excellent day!
I’m sure this answers your question!

Inappropriate? There supposed to be a limit of 50 per minute and 500 per hour but I can easily sent +5.000 mails per hour from MT. I'm not doing this any longer as this takes quite some time and the script times out, although it send every mail successfully.
